You should react to the 5 times Larry Bird was injured but refused to quit. And the 4 times Larry Bird was hurt but showed male toughness. The game against the Pacers when he fractured his cheek bone the night before he spent in the hospital in traction. He broke his back halfway through his career. His teammates said he struggled to get dressed out for the game that night. You have to see his passing video. His full court passes were perfect. He was a basketball quarterback.

Yep. Bird had to play against all of Magic Johnson Kareem Abdul Jabbar James Worthy Michael Cooper Scott Byron Kurt Rambis 3 times in the finals. And when it wasn't them, it was still Ralph Samson and Hakeem Olajuwon. Fun fact, in the 1986 finals, Bird managed to somehow win a jump ball against Olajuwon, who is 3 inches taller and has a 5 inch larger wingspan Someone once said that white men cant jump. And theyre right. But, as Bill Murray said, "Larry Bird isnt white. Larry's clear"
@simplyskrypt39144 ай бұрын
And yes, the road to the finals for larry was also something spectacular. Round 1 : 76ers; Dr J, Charles Barkley and Karl Malone Round 2 : Bad boy Pistons; Isiah Thomas, Dennis Rodman, Bill Laimbeer Round 3 : Hawks; Dominique Wilkins, Doc Rivers, Cliff Livingston That was your average eastern conference run in the 80s. I didnt even mention Michael Jordan's Bulls, Patrick Ewing and Bernard King on the Knicks, or Marques Johnson and Sidney Moncrief on the Bucks

Jerry "Mr. Clutch" West belongs north of that space. Clutch enough to be the only player to win Finals MVP on the losing team. Honorable mention, though somewhat with tongue-in-cheek, to "Big Shot" Rob Horry.

Yeah, his passing is comparable to Magic, just not as flashy, but the ball was at the right spot at the right time. So, best one to watch is "Larry Bird Greatest passer of time (re-edit with new footage". Also, this one really shows how competitive the eastern conference was over the western. "The Best Larry Bird UNDERDOG Story Ever Told". Really good reaction and comments, thanks.

Bird is definetly the most clutch. Everyone knew Bird was getting the ball and as Isiah said, you were shocked if he missed. He was just fun to watch. There was always some amazing thing he did every game.

With bird its not just that he made fans believe that he could hit every shot. Its how he convinced even the players and coaches going against him, guys like Dr J, Dennis Rodman, Clyde Drexler and Michael Jordan. All of them will tell you themselves "if Larry Bird is down 1 or 2 and he catches the ball with 3 seconds left on the clock, you can start packing your bags"

Larry Bird received 67% of all MVP votes in the entire decade of the 80's that had some of the greatest players of all time in that decade including Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Kareem, and so many more. He won 3 MVP's in a row and could of easily won 10 straight, but the media hated him. He is the most efficient scorer the NBA has ever seen. There are only a handful of players who shot 40-50-90 for the season and Larry Bird averaged that for 5 years straight! The stats are inflated now because of all the three point shooting . The game was different back then the three point shoot wasn't part of the game it was more of a half court game played inside the three point line. If Bird played in today's game his stats would be ridiculous

Remember that the reason Bird 'pioneered' the 'dagger 3' was, in part, because the NBA introduced the 3-point shot the year he joined the league. Smart move by the NBA. What this meant was that, if the Celtics were down by 2 with time on the clock, they simply gave the rock to Larry, and it was almost a certainty that they would win.

Larry is without a doubt, the greatest all around player ever! At the age of 30, he averaged more points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks than LeBron and Steph. And that was with a bad back. He once won a jump ball against Hakeem. Highest basketball IQ to ever step on the court. He had a four year stretch of 50/40/90. Not just a season, four year’s consecutively!

In the Garden, that last minute shot, there's a 90% chance it would have made it. Crazy, yeah? He's insane. You don't think looking at him he could shoot, rebound, do 50/40/90 multiple times, play 40+ minutes of a game every night, hustle, steal, BLOCK, pass... He did it all. He even dunked, but they weren't...pretty. He didn't even have a 3 point line until his rookie year. wrap your mind around that. Never saw it in High School or college. Yet he has 2 50/40/90 seasons! First efficient scorer! Curry is a better shooter, but Bird was a more efficient shooter. That's a few things Larry did. The rabbit hole is insane! See his games, there are crazy!

I would! What a broad view failed to realize, that Larry was NOT only a serious "BALLER", he played with older black older ball players in his neighborhood and WAS accepted by the older ball platers , but held his own and both sides had & showed mutual respect," both ways"! Mind you the people who he played against him as was as was appreciative of Larry as he was of them! Powerful little known fact, but Larry was just a flat-out baller! It may have not been by a larger national audience, known however, hes 's just a flat out baller to the highest degree. He even gave "propels" to those who excepted held him to excel as we ALL have laid witness too! If ask about, he has NOT hesitated to speak of his experiences socializing with the black ball players in the neighborhood! As It's been said time & again; "game recognizes game". I would have NO problem siding up with him on my team, play groung or pros! If its a 2 point shot or from the 3 point shot, as long as "WE ARE WEARING THE SAME JERSEY" 3 POINTS IS POINTS, AND IF i HAVE ONE MORE POINT THAN 'YOU", I have NO problem waving bye-bye as U leave the COURT! If I was given the opportunity to put the ultimate basketball team together, the first name I would call would be Larry Bird. Then I would let Larry pick the remaining players, players HE wanted to play with. His basketball IQ was off the charts. He knows everything you could ever want to know about how to play the game. Today's players...I confess, I don't know much about them. To me, from what little I have seen, today's players are great athletes but not ballers. Today's game, in my opinion, is all flash with little actual substance. No one really drives the paint, and no one guards the paint like in the great days of the NBA. And where is dedication to your team? Everyone trying to make superteams... or demand ridiculous contracts, forcing teams to have to skimp on support players to be able to pay their best player. Then the best player demands a trade because they don't have good support players! The NBA has fallen far from the 80's and 90's. Players are prima donnas these days. They cry for a foul when anyone plays good defense on them, and if they get a hangnail, they are out for three games. Enough ranting from an old man missing the old days. Good reaction, and keep up the good work, young fella!

If Larry never Broke his Back to where he had to do techniques to lock his back Just To Play in constant pain Would Magic have won those extra tiles, Would Jordans reign taken longer to get started or his GOAT claims been shrunk Remember Larry Always had Jordans Number, Michael couldn't beat Larry even when Birds body was broken and in constant pain If Larry stayed healthy The kind of damage he could have done to so many players and teams is crazy to think of That is My Era Yeah i'm white but Michael Is Still MyLarry is in 2nd place though, i can't make him No1 on What Ifs even though the Evidence would be in Birds Favour!!😁

People who really have eyes to see put Larry top 3; the rest is subjective preference

Larry was special outside of being white. But as for whites, look at Luka. Mvps coming and just hitting his prime.

I'm not the originator of this but. Can we change the GOAT convo to the GOTE (greatest of their era) convo

THe Eastern Conference wasn't Jordan's. He was a non factor in the '80's. Not the Player, but the lack of leadership around the Bulls at the time. Until Scottie showed up in the late '80's, Larry's Celtics had them for lunch routinely. Even when Scottie did show up, Old, broken down bad back Larry still routinely served him. Now the 76ers with Moses, Barkley and Dr. J. The Boston Strangler? Yeah, they were insane. Then the Bucks, solid tough team led by Moncrief, perennial conference contenders. The Pistons were the latter half of the decade and the Hawks, the Knicks and the Cavs were not slouches, either. The Lakers had the Rockets and Portland sometimes. Most of the HoFer heavy teams were on the East.

Larry Bird had a 10 times for playing against that competition than LeBron LeBron was in the East for most of his time
