So this experience is quite different from mine. I was in Peru in February 2020, just before the pandemic. At the time when I was in Cusco, all the hiking trips to Machu Picchu (the 4-5 day long trips) were not running because of severe flooding. A group of around 10 people had actually died in a landslide just a week or two prior on one of those hiking trips....which was part of the reason why they halted them. Machu Picchu was still open, but the only way to go there was by vehicle. The train near Agua Calientes was running, but I chose to walk from the start of the station to Agua Calientes, which is about a 10KM walk. The trip from Cusco to the point where I had to walk was in a Mercedes van thing and because of all the flooding, and generally being there at the low time of year there were only 2 others in the van with me. The severe flooding had actually taken out one of the main bridges along the dirt road, so we had to get out of the van, walk across some temporary man-bridge to the other side of the river, then got in some (seemingly) random dude's car to take us the rest of the way to where the train tracks began. That was actually the worst part for me because I had eaten something my system really disagreed with and I almost shit myself before getting anywhere with a toilet or portapotty lol. It was BAD. My trip was a 2 night thing with the accommodations included in the price and it was like $245 USD or somewhere around there. Machu Picchu ticket included. The price to take the train was VERY expensive which is why I walked. I also walked from Agua Calientes up the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu starting at around 5:30 AM to get there for opening time, as I didn't want to pay the $25 USD for the bus. It was a challenging but pretty hike. There also were not that many people at Machu Picchu either. I was able to freely walk around wherever I wanted basically, other than areas that were roped off where no one was allowed to go. But I wasn't required to walk a set path and only go 1 way. I could go wherever. So, your experience visiting Machu Picchu seems like it will vary drastically depending on the time of year you go there. I personally thought it was worth it, even though the main thing I wanted to do while in Cusco was one of those 5 days hikes up to Machu Picchu...but oh well, maybe one day.

I know you said the trip it wasn’t worth it, but this video is absolutely stunning and one of my favorites!! The time on the train in the bar car with the band, dancing, conversations, singing and the movement of the train would have been sensory overload for me and very anxiety producing. You really didn’t mention it, but I can only imagine what it was like for you. I can totally understand your take on the entire experience. The video was completely breathtaking and totally worth it for me! 😆In fact, I feel like I should slide you some cash to cover my share. If I were ever to make this trip, I feel like you showed me what to expect. That alone would increase the chance for me to have a great experience. That live band would have sent me to the other end of the train! I'm sure I saw a bit of discomfort in Victoria's face when it started up. I don't dislike bands but those trumpets were much too close! Nice to have a viewing area on a train with scenery like that. Agree, this is a lovely video. I've seen a lot of videos of Machu Picchu but none of how to get there before this.

The reason theye so strict is because people think theyre entitled to do things (Climb, take things, deface things) ...also no offense to you.. take pictures on things etc. They make money from tourism. People go there to embrace the culture, nature.. enjoy the views with out everyone taking pictures or videos. Yes, things are expensive.. that is why people save for vactions.

Hi guys , just want to say Cusco has 2 seasons: wet and dry being the best time to go from May to november. also, not all the trains have live shows, I have a beautiful peaceful trip in Expedition service without any music 2 weeks ago. if you dont want/can affort the train you can take a bus to Hidroelectrica and walk 3 hours to Aguas Calientes and take the bus from there as mentioned in this video. If you do not want to take the bus from Aguas Calientes you can walk to Machu picchu, there is a way with stairs. (I took the bus to go to Machu picchu and returned by walking to Aguas Calientes) I really enjoyed Machu picchu, but the lines and the restrictions are true, I went there 3 times before the pandemic and the rules were differents to this time tho.

Let me get this straight - "a poor carnivore, who never held a lettuce in their life time, enters a fancy, Hindu, vegan place, and says that it is not restaurant of their choice." This is not a personal opinion, this is very biased opinion. As you mention (and I confirm), the Machu Picchu allows only 2500 people a day. Which means only 0.644% of the world's population will have a chance to experience such trip to add it to their memory in their life time. It is extreme luxury to visit this true gem of wonder of the world, and your biased opinion should not taint the beauty of Machu Picchu. Obviously, this beauty not for everyone, in terms of beauty, price, complexity of logistics and what's not. Personal taste is a personal for a reason, and we won't argue that. But if you don't like "action movies", do not watch them or watch them, but don't leave your biased "personal review" about Avengers or any other fun action movie out there. Please delete your "opinion", as it brings no value to the world. We are well aware that not all people enjoy traveling, like gorgeous scenery or can afford luxury trips to remote and most unique places in the world.

My former mother in law built a retreat in Cusco, the Sacred Valley. I’ve been a few times. Years ago, Machu Picchu wasn’t quite as touristy. We had private access in the evening. Without lights, we’d wait until our eyes adjusted with the moonlight and have it all to ourselves. It was magical at any cost. Many extraordinary experiences there. Their retreat is beautiful.

@@CyberFreaked I think it’s more they protect the part of the economy generated by the tourist revenue. If you can sit and watch honest-to-goodness experiences from seasoned travelers/adventurers like Victoria , they are bound to worry that people will be less inclined to visit. I can totally understand why artworks, such as the Mona Lisa are protected from photography and videography but, cannot think of a single other reason for a ban in a large outdoor area such as Machu Pichu?

5 years ago when I was in Cancun I took a day trip to Chichen Itza. The main pyramid (El Castillo) has been thought to be a UFO landing platform. The air-conditioned bus ride was comfortable and they gave us beers and snacks along the way. We got to swim in the Cenotes (underground rivers) and we were fed a lunch. Also, you can take as many photos or videos as you wish. I was dropped off at my resort just as the sun was going down. It was a great historical (alien influenced) excursion for only $150. I love seeing this from your perspective because this is how it truly is to travel to the tourist traps. I once went to Chichen Itza in Mexico and it took forever to walk back to the pyramids. There were so many people, which totally ruins the experience. This was before Covid (2017) so there were hundreds of people. Unfortunately, this is the reality of it. It’s not like you see on Instagram and Pinterest. Such popular destinations are always going to be expensive and crowded. If you really want a unique experience without all the ppl, I suggest Tanzania. I went on a safari there and saw the animals in their natural habitat. I saw the real Lion rock (the inspiration that Disney used in “The Lion King”, ingorongoro crater and Serengeti national park. It was magic. Thank you for keeping it real Tori! 🤗

I love that poncho (and so does Pancho LOL. I just made him a shoulder bag from a pink+green+yellow old cat collar and a little pink pouch my friend gave me). i don't know if Machu Picchu is worth it but i'd go just for that train ride. The live music was amazing ❤️

I once went to a place where pictures weren't allowed. I didn't know until I got there. It ruined the whole experience for me because taking pictures and videos is the main reason I go to places. Like you, I like to have the freedom to move around and experience places in my own way, which is mostly off of the beaten track. I wonder what the reason is for not being allowed to take videos?

Hey! Thank you for your really honest review. I also want people to know I just rode with PeruRail and it was a really terrible experience. People need to know that in 2024 its a scam, so that they don't have to have the same experience as me. Overpriced, mean staff, the bus was smelly, gross, and bumpy. Overall, just avoid PeruRail now.

Thank you for being honest. I would probably feel the same way. I dislike tourist traps unless I can get there before the crowds, which is rarely the case in a place remote like that. Capri was one of those places for me. Beautiful but a big shopping tourist trap. Kind of ruined it for me. Nice ferry ride though.

You had the "We are not amused" look on your face when the band was standing behind you...lol. I am sorry it wasn't as fun as people thought. It's an amazing place, but the "rules" screws up the experience. I can't wait to see the rain forest video, you are always my spirt animal in these videos and I think I would have been just as disappointed. Wow I cant believe how much it has changed since I was there in 2007. I feel so lucky that I went then. We were able to walk around the ruins. We also climbed to the top of a neighboring mountain and had a really good view from there too. I'd just do that if I went today. Your train was sooo nice. Our train had broken doors and was definitely not OSHA friendly.

You are right and there are videos available. The country side views is impressive and your raim forest vid will be amazing for sure. On a trip to Yosemite driving there on the switch back roads and seeing the drop offs was very sketchy, I remember thinking it might take weeks or more to be discovered at the bootom of the ravine.

Kinda hate these touristy things to begin with. I remember going to Versailles and the Louvre when I was in Highschool and you just could not enjoy it, loads of people bumping into you and an absolute crapton of primarily Chinese and Japanese tourist groups crowding around the most interesting stuff to snap 5000 pictures. You kind of had to shove your way through if you wanted to see anything. It just ends up not making it worth the cost, you end up feeling like you wasted a lot of money while getting close to nothing in return.

I get what yer saying about Machu Picchu, and frankly I don't care for overly-touristed places with loads of restrictions either. But those views are balls to the walls insane and gorgeous, and as an archaeologist this is sort of a bucket list candidate for me to check out (like the Parthenon was, and the Pantheon in Rome). But it seems like a very long and irritating trip, especially that noisy, chaotic train ride, I would just hide in the back where its quiet. But at least you got to see the site, plus fuzzy llamas! Thanks for bringing us along with you, having you along always makes thing better! :=8)

I have to agree with you… Many touristy places are just, very similar. Often times you can find amazing views, sceneries that are less traveled and just have a feel of “discovery” and amazement… Unless it’s a notch on a bucket list, I’m of the same opinion! (I Hope that made sense some days English is harder than others…😂)
