Let's try macrame! I'm (finally) breaking out the Boho Dreams macrame kit I got as a Christmas gift, and seeing what's what. Is macrame actually hard? Probably, the way I do it. But let's see!

The brutal honesty of your impatience with stain and making it worse by fixing it later is definitely my biggest struggle with craft projects! No patience! I think yours turned out better than the cover package.

Thank you! I secretly agree, haha, I think the proportions are better on mine and I'm super glad I changed it towards the end. Still, theirs was probably made in a rush for the photoshoot whereas mine took me two whole days, so there's that 😅 I still reckon it would be easy enough to slide the loops off that dowel onto a temporary holder of some kind while I jazz it up, but who am I kidding that plain dowel is here to stay.

Yes! I used to do that a ton and was really excited when I found out it's technically macrame. Of course, I mostly just made the exact same ones over and over so didn't actually learn more than one knot. Oh well, maybe some of those long lost skills came to my aid here lol.

@@TheGiddyStitcher I fell down the rabbit hole of micro macrame bracelets a couple of years ago and it definitly feeds into my same love of colour and threads that cross stitch does. Now I have a massive stash of threads, beads, charms... you name it. Really fun hobby.

Thank you for your thorough instructions and explanations on how you achieved those side knots. I attempted a macrame keychain and stopped when every video and description of how to do those did not work for me. Off to dig that project back out of the pile!

I find beginner sets for a new craft are intermediate at the least. I don’t think I’ve ever seen any that don’t have missing descriptions/instructions or unclear sizing/instructions 😂

Watching while working on my backstitching, gotta admit your far more interesting 😂 I love macramé which is why I refuse to do it. I know I won't stop lol I remember getting w best friend bracelet kit when I was a child and figuring out all the knots. It wasn't easy then either lol can't wait to see what else you make

We may or may not be planning a trip to the local craft shop to stock up on as many random colours of cord and sticks and hoops and whatever else we can carry. I have insisted Dave gives it a go as well although I expect he won't want me filming it 😂

I would never succeed to do this kit with only the pictures they gave, I need at least a video tutorial to try a new craft! 🤭 Well done on figuring out how to do this, that was quite impressive! 😊I'm glad you found a new craft you like! 🥰

Honestly the knots were really easy and that booklet had everything needed, it was just the kit instructions that led me astray a bit at first 🤦‍♀️

Nice! Don't know if I'll try it or not. I am trying something new with my friends at the end of the month. We are going to take a class in fusing glass or something like that. I'll let you know how it goes. Take care.

I guess the single hook could work if you start by making the rope hanger and hook the hook to that?? You’re sitting there in front of the gorgeous embroidery floss display talking about macramé and I’m thinking: what about multi-coloured mini macramé with embroidery floss? 🧐 Actually, is that what friendship bracelets are? 😮 Mini macramé? I had a go at making one once and seem to remember that flipping the knot manoeuvre. Huh! Thanks for sharing your crafting. It’s an encouragement to dig out that macramé cord I purchased on impulse some years ago and haven’t tried out yet. It’ll be in the “I’ll get to this one day” pile with all the other hopeful crafts. 😊

Ok first of all, oh my god of course make the hanging loop first! Literally just facepalmed in real life. They could've said that in the instructions though, pfffff. Thank you 😂 Second of all, oh my god (again), tiny floss macrame? Like, normal macrame projects but tiny and therefore adorable? Oh dear, I fear a rabbit hole approacheth.

@@TheGiddyStitcher I didn’t think it was all that obvious and yes, they definitely should’ve put it in the instructions if that’s the way it was meant to work! That mini macramé rabbit hole is a doozy. You might want to watch your step 🐰

Nice job! This was great. I have a macrame kit that I’ve never gotten around to starting for all the reasons you can imagine and pushed through. It found its way into my possession just because I want to eventually try all the fiber arts. 🤓 I don’t know if I’ll open the kit tomorrow or next week, but thanks for the reminder! It was helpful to see how you tackled it, and I’ll keep it in mind when I really start eyeing my kit, probably over the holidays.

This turned out great! And it looks like a great craft for a fidgety person! Your enthusiasm for the square knots reminds me of the time I was addicted to making origami lucky stars, which basically start with a knot in paper and sated all my fidgety needs. I have no idea when I'll get around to trying the macrame kit I got, but after watching this, I'm nervous that it's going to be way too complex for a beginner. (It's a bird cage plant hanger thing.) Might need to find something else to practice with first.

The actual knots were honestly fine, it was just the lack of setup instructions that really had me confused in the beginning. But aaaah I also love origami and you've hit the nail on the head, it's the exact same kind of vibe. You are gonna love this 😀

I have been doing macrame for many, many years and that kit was not good for a beginner nor was it detailed enough. And yes they should have provided two S hooks. You did an amazing job. I am super impressed. Way to go.
