So helpful! Thank you! ❤ I’m a new stitcher and have already managed to accumulate many tools and patterns. 😅I’m confused by the phrase “ stitching 2 over 2” or “1 over 2” and what it means (number of floss threads over number of squares?) Any recommendations on videos or resources that explain?
@TheGiddyStitcherКүн бұрын
Welcome to the hobby! And congratulations on the rapidly expanding kit, haha! You've pretty much got it down, 2 over 2 would be two strands, with one stitch using up two squares of the fabric. 2 over 1, two strands, one square. 1 over 2, one strand, two squares, etc etc. But if you want more detail on different fabric counts and how to generally stitch on them I made this video a while back that might possibly be useful, if memory serves it includes a scribbled diagram to illustrate the above 😅 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hr1hfJmXqdaqYYE.html

One thing I would add to the flosstube tips section is to know what your verbal tics are, and make an effort to overcome them. What I mean is things like how may times do you say the word 'like' in a minute (I've unsubcribed from some channels for how annoying this is!)? Do you use a word as punctuation, and do you say it in an "interesting" way? The way to find out about this is to first ask your family & friends to be completely honest with you. Or, record a sample of what you plan to do, and come back to it a few days later with a critical ear. Michelle, you don't have any that I can identify (and I'm autistic, I hear this stuff EVERYWHERE), but there are channels that I just can't stand to watch because all I hear is 'like' over and over or that punctuation word and the content gets lost outside that noise.
@TheGiddyStitcherКүн бұрын
Oh yes this is a really good tip! What sounds normal when you're saying it can be so cringe when you hear it back and realise you use the same word or phrase over and over. A few years ago I was experimenting with streaming on Twitch (it's not for me, I cannot do live public performance!) and noticed in all the clips I was just saying "oh my god" as my go-to reaction, but I was saying it ALL THE TIME. So now I'm really paranoid about it and will do a second take if I notice I've done it, haha. Definitely great advice!

Thank you so much for posting this video. I'm currently planning to make my own wedding dress and I've been looking for a video like this. I just wanted to know exactly what I'm getting myself into. It's been so hard looking for a dress that I finally just decided to make it myself...I should point out that I am a fashion designer. But I've never made a wedding dress. Once again, thank you for posting this honest video.
@TheGiddyStitcher3 күн бұрын
You are definitely well ahead of where I was as a pretty beginner sewist, but yeah, as you could tell the pressure is unreal even for a small non-wedding like mine so it's definitely something to take into account. Over a year on and I no longer feel embarrassed about this or really ever think about it, the backup Amazon dress was perfectly fit for purpose. But if you're the sort of bride who has dreamed of your dress, who needs it to be perfect or your day will be ruined, I think it's something to think very carefully about before attempting. Cngratulations, and best of luck!

Have you done a video on tension? I just discovered if I stitch with a hoop and railroad, my stitches are almost perfect. No hoop and stitching in hand, the first stitch is looser, then the top stitch is tighter and it all tends to look messier, even with railroading the top stitch. Thanks for this video.

I have a Lowery workstand and just use the default side clamp. It's not designed to hold a q-snap but I found that as long as there's a grippy fabric between the clamp and the q-snap (a bit of felt, a grime guard etc) it actually works fine. That said, a lot of people have commented saying the Lowery corner clamp works much better for them, so I'll hopefully get to try that one day. Hope that's helpful, but if you have other questions about the workstand they might be answered in this video I made! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oduhabqVzbrHqqM.html

Something that's really important for accessibility for those of us who are hearing impaired, SUBTITLES! It's not hard to do, especially if you don't instantly publish the video, give it a few hours to sit in the scheduled setting and KZfaq gives you autosubs that you can then go into and edit to be correct as a lot of the time auto subs are inaccurate if they're even available at all and can make it harder for people who can't hear well or at all to watch while people cover their mouths with their projects while speaking (making lip reading useless in those moments and subs the only option)

A couple tips on sound quality from a music and call center background: If you find you’re getting a lot of echo one of the easiest solutions is a rug. A room with soft squishy carpeting is almost impossible to get an echo in. So even just throwing a cheap rug from the big box store or a couple big thick blankets under you and your recording equipment while you record will help reduce the echo. Incidentally “moving blankets” work great for this. They can be pretty affordable and are very durable. If a rug or blankets under you isn’t enough, you can also use those removable wall hooks to hang moving blankets along the mostly empty flat walls in the room as those will be the major sources of echo If you find a lot of background noise or you are too muffled, yes a lapel mike is your best fix, but if that isn’t something you have right now, try connecting a pair of Bluetooth earbuds that have a built in microphone to your phone when you are recording. Most people already have a pair that that would work. Yes you will obviously be wearing earbuds, but it effectively moves the mic closer to your voice so it can help make you louder than the background noise.
@TheGiddyStitcher5 күн бұрын
Yes! Great tips, thank you. Can't believe I forgot the soft furnishings tip, I literally spent the first six months of my channel covering this room with blankets whenever I was recording it works a treat 😄 I'd never thought of bluetooth headphones, am not much of a bluetooth accessories type at heart, but it certainly explains a lot of vlogs I've seen where they were wearing headphones and I didn't know why. Haha, I am so with it 😎

I highly recommend using aseprite for design work. I use it especially when I want to make a video game piece by importing the sprites to help when design. I like that you can export it in any image file and scale which I use to with flosscross since you can import pixel art.
@maryannjohnson54109 күн бұрын
Didn't know what a laying tool was until you explained it. I finally learned what railroading was a few months ago. I usually don't bother with it unless my stitches are really not looking right, and then I do the top leg. I've found that if I let the floss spin once in awhile it lays nicer and my worst stitches seem to be at the end of my thread.
@suncoastcrafting63629 күн бұрын
Thank you for showing these techniques. I use both (although sometimes my laying tool is just another needle) and also the frog stitch. Sometimes I have to 'rip out' stitches and try again. Usually just one or two. Drop the thread. Railroad for a bit. And there should be an improvement. This happens mostly when I'm trying to use that last bit of floss. It's too short and getting twisted. I know that I shouldn't force 'just one more stitch.' It helps to end that thread and start with a new piece of floss.
