@@airplanes_aren.t_real *Some* fireflies are toxic to *some* frogs. There are frogs that eat almost exclusively fireflies. None of that matters anyway, it's a damn video game. Clearly literal cubes of magma are less toxic to frogs... It's just so stupid some of the things they change for the sake of realism despite *magic* being a key aspect of the game. My opinion is that they actually removed the fireflies because dynamic lighting is hard and they didn't get it looking right before release. If your kid decides to feed a parrot a cookie because the video game said so, that says way more about *you* as a parent than it does about the game. Why can you feed dogs bones? That will kill a lot of dogs by rupturing their intestines with the shards. It's just such a stupid thing to even be worried about, if a family has a pet parrot then obviously they're going to teach the kids what should and shouldn't be fed to them, the same way we teach kids what should and shouldn't be fed to dogs. Same goes for a pet frog, or anything like that.

Facts! This is how I feel too. I guess relatively speaking fireflies are a small feature, but ever since seeing fireflies in modded versions I've wanted them in vanilla. The big problem is that Minecraft should arguably have a lot of momentum behind it in the development team. It's literally the best sold game of all time, having made billions of billions of dollars in sales in just a decade. It'd be one thing if some stuff slipped the update, I guess that's fine. But this many times in a row? This should be the most well funded development team of any current game considering how many copies are in customer hands. We've seen quicker, more polished content delivery from people making mods out of their bedroom with 3 other people on discord.

@catcactus1234

@@stormer7502 I agree with the overall comment but those examples aren’t really good imo. Any game in early development can add features much faster because there’s less content they have to work around. Back in the day, Notch didn’t have to worry too much about the combat system or hunger system when he wanted to implement a new mob. Or how an item could potentially be too OP in an area like the nether or end. And terraria’s just a whole other game entirely. It’s completely 2D which is arguably easier to develop for, because things like collision and entity rendering are entirely non-issues. I do think Mojang should have enough resources to put out more than what they’re currently giving though.

Bedrock really needs some big fixes though (random deaths, falling through the world, other weird ones that have granted it the name "bugrock" lmao) and there are some parity things that would be great additions, like movable chests and potion cauldrons in Java and a mix of things in Bedrock (sorry can't think of big ones right now).

It’s an interesting juxtaposition to compare this update with what Mojang was able to accomplish with the Nether Update, which Mojang delivered on 110% of its promises, completely revamping the entire nether world generation, introducing a variety of brand new biomes, and even adding an extra biome just because the community asked for one. I think that ever since Village and Pillage, Mojang has been trying to one-up themselves with each update (aside from small updates like Buzzy Bees). The Nether Update gave them confidence that they could do this within a reasonable timeframe, but almost a little too much confidence. They lost that streak of one-upping updates when Caves and Cliffs took much longer to make than they originally anticipated and became much larger than they had planned, forcing them to split the update into two parts and push back other features such as archeology and the Deep Dark. Now, they’re struggling to retain the trust of the player base by promising great updates in a short time, but they simply can’t do that. I think they should focus on figuring out what they can do in an update before they release any information or snapshots about such update so they don’t have to cancel anything. Either that, or they can give a small amount of info at a time, but show more and more as snapshots go on. I think that was their strategy for the Nether Update for the most part, and it worked out incredibly well for them.

For 1.17 They called it Caves and cliffs Part I. For 1.18 they called it Part 2. For 1.19 they called it a whole new update, so we expected whole new updates. But the vast majority of the update was, in reality, Caves and Cliffs Part 3. There were only a very small handful of updates that were not. This is why people were so underwhelmed with the update, because when you think Non-promised features from 1.17, there really was only a few things added, Allay, Frog, and Mangrove swamp, and then what little was already there had more things removed, so in the end it felt very short of features, when the reality was the update was a bit bigger than we're giving credit for, but that's in part due to the name of the update. I think had it been named Caves and Cliffs Part 3, the community would have received this update very well, because we got everything we expected from Caves and Cliffs finally into this 1.19 update (minus archaeology), and any other features would have just been extra cool bonuses. So instead of looking at the Allay, Mangrove Swamp, and Frog as a cool bonus, we saw that as the entire update which made the update feel very underwhelming. Hopefully that explanation makes sense.

Wild update might've been somewhat near being the bee update in satisfying the players part But the thing is, i think the reason they threw deep dark this far into 1.19 from 1.17, is because they wanted it as a bigger plan, if 1.20 turns out to be something related to the deep dark (city center) then it would make sense I feel like the wild update is the calm before the storm

1.19 wasn't a bad update in a vacuum, it's just what the wild update meant vs what we got that pisses people off. For the longest time, all the biomes in minecraft have felt samey, dull, uninspired and tedious. When the wild update was announced, with the overhauls to swamps, concept art for birch forest changes, and the tease for potentially more changes, it felt like a step in the right direction. Biomes were finally getting the love and diversity they'd need and exploring the overworld would become atmospheric and enchanting again. But then as the devlog went on, more and more of what was suggested and implied was cut out, to the point that the whole theme of the update being about the "wild" became strenuous at best. People aren't upset at what we got, but rather what we were promised and ultimately didn't get, especially considering it's one of the aspects that needs improving the most.
@shinybreloom4027
@shinybreloom4027 Жыл бұрын
this is probably the most sane take here. you're not saying minecraft should stop updating altogether or some nonsense about how often or some performance issue largely dependent on device (doesn't really matter to most people lol) Mojang promise, Mojang should be compelled to do, no more, no less. That is honest business. It is very disturbing if a small feature (which is easy to implement, given people are doing it within days) cannot be put in the official game due to some issue relating to its interactions with other features (frog w/ firefly). The restaurant analogy works here because what's demanded is such a small thing; if you order something in the grand opening of a restaurant that was on the menu (and which they advertise on the front page, emblazoned with a logo), then the restaurant is obligated to (if they have the resources) give what you ordered and they said could be provided. There is literally no excuse. Maybe one or two things could be modified last-minute, but the material should still be there.

Can we go back to when the developers would just release cryptic images of things they were working on? The community would get to try and dissect it, but not really have any expectations. New versions had a fresh feel because we hadn't seen it all already. We get so much detail now that it gets hard to remember what is currently in the game. There's also a point to be made about focus. In 1.19 we have deep dark, swamp, chest boats, and allay - the focus seems to be all over. The deep dark is so different from swamps and other biomes that it might have fit better into its own update. Maybe the wild update could have delivered on its name a bit more by focusing on updating and fleshing out biomes plus adding the swamp.

Exactly, the update just feels as though Mojang wanted to get rid of some extra files so they just placed unneeded things into this update. All I ask from Mojang is to take time with their updates - they’re acting as if they’re going to be murdered by the fandom for taking a week longer than they should have. If I could change one thing it would be to make 1.17 the full caves and cliffs, that way it can live up to the hype of 1.16. 1.18 can be a filler (like what 1.15 was) and could be the new biomes added etc. 1.19 should’ve been more focused on bosses - adding a new boss and dusting out the old ones making them more feel like a boss battle (especially on bedrock edition where the Wither is like a genocide machine). 1.20 must be big otherwise the game will die no doubts about it. It’s a major milestone so a lot of effort and time should be focused on it.

One of the big problems is also the difference between the updates: We had the aquatic update, where they overhauled water bodies, which cover a substantial part of the whole world. Then, there was the village & pillage update, which made villagers more relevant and refurbished some of the most interesting structures in the game: the villages. Soon after, the buzzy bees update came, and although it wasn't too flattering, the things were still fresh and new enough to not make people let down by them. Then, one of the bigger updates came along, which was the Nether update, giving us literal dozens of new blocks as well as several new biomes, making the Nether dimension a lot more fun to explore. Then, essentially the most significant and most expected and important update came out: the caves & cliffs, which gave us many new blocks to build with, including a new metal, copper, together with its new ageing mechanic. The second part of caves & cliffs brought us an increased height limit and a complete rework of the world generation engine. And then, after all this, here comes the "wild" 1.19: most people lost interest in the Warden boss and the Deep Dark over the two years since it was first teased, not even mentioning the lack of motivation for players to go explore the lost cities. Yeah, a music disc is cool, and so is the Echo compass, but why have the boss then? Every boss is supposed to be guarding something important and/or valuable, be it the abstract idea of finishing the game protected by the Ender Dragon or the ability to mine faster using a beacon, access to which the player can get only by defeating the Wither. Yet here is the Warden, the most difficult of them all, protecting some not too astounding loot in the chests around him and dropping... a sculk catalyst?! Why did they even bother giving him a loot table? Then there are the swamps, which are too rare for everyone to appreciate them enough, and let down by the first truly ambient mob to be added to the game being dropped out of it (and no, I don't consider bats atmospheric), supporting it by a weak excuse about them being poisonous to frogs, which they could've simply omitted. After degrading the swamps, they decided to exclude the overhaul of other biomes, including those of which we have been shown sketches and concept arts. To be honest, I would probably appreciate the retouch of birch forests, plains and other widespread biomes more than the new mangrove wood type and the swamp update. All of this arrogantly called off by saying that "players should not take concept arts as promises of content", which we until recently could've. Lastly, we have the Allays, which aren't the easiest to get your hands on in survival, and even if you do decide to get them, their mechanic isn't actually that useful (my personal opinion, to which I have resorted after mulling it over for quite a while). Yes, they can pick up items, but so can hoppers and hopper minecarts, and if a player is capable enough to get themselves some allays from the rare and well-guarded woodland mansions, they are probably skilled enough to build an undoubtedly more reliable pickup system with the use of these redstone components, either all by themselves, or with the help of a tutorial. Yes, they can pick up non-stackable items, but who other than a technical player is going to appreciate this small feature? TL;DR: Trying to be as objective as possible while ranting about why I think the update received so much hate.

I think the thing is, no one was upset about the 'Busy Bees' update when it came out because it was exactly what was promised. A couple of new minor additions to the game and bug fixes. They did exactly what they said they would do, and no one complained because from the start it was a small update. This update was supposed to be a big one. That's what makes this update disappointing, is the fact they over-promised and under-delivered.

*Blackboardideas* Mostly agree. Disagree with: > “Bats are not atmospheric.” They serve no other purpose than decorating the caves. They’re atmospheric. They should’ve kept fireflies as a food for frogs. Minecraft need not be real world lore. But if real life is what Mojang wants… What amount of people are going to: A. Be influenced by Minecraft to believe frogs can eat fireflies safely B. Have a pet frog C. Desire to try feeding their frog fireflies D. Find any marketplace online or irl, which sells fireflies as amphibian food E. (Alternative to D) Find and catch fireflies themselves F. Miss notices saying fireflies are poisonous G. Feed their frog enough fireflies to kill the frog H. Have some unknown motive to feed a frog a firefly, rather than commercial frog food And all Mojang had to do was make the frogs take damage when it consumes a firefly. I'd add two problems that may have frustrated more than one person: - the skulk sensor doesn't looks like a finished product and the way you can distinct different sounds is a bit painful to work with, communication wise, they said the same when it came out and said they would work on it, but didn't - the ancient cities don't have a real appeal yet, there is no real reward in it and the one of the only interesting things that is the warden is just meant to be avoided. I hope some of its content just got delayed EDIT: small update, I tested the ancient cities yesterday, raided 2 without dying and even got to kill two wardens. Ancient cities are way too easy with elytras, you just don't care about the noise you make and target all the shriekers you see, when a warden spawn you just zoom away in another part of the city, when there is near zero shrieker left, do the same with the loot chests and you're done. The warden take too long to be angry enough to be a problem and you have all the time you need to break the shrieker, open a chest and take off while it spawns next to you. I would advise you to try to explore at least one on foot to not ruin your fun. Enjoy!

ancient cities are fine, they have good loot the only problem is thay mojang decided to make it really easy to get that loot so they can't give out materials like diamonds or anything. Instead of adding more traps and having the warden forced on you more often they turned the entire ancient city into a giant block puzzle that you get 3 tries to solve. they give you all the necessary wool to complete it, more than enough space to run away, it takes maybe 10 minutes of preparation to never be killed by the warden ever. The sculk sensors and shriekers never amount to anything outside of themselves. there is only one generated structure with a trap in it (the ice box). after you clear out the sensors and shriekers there is no longer a threat. and the warden being superbuffed to counterbalance all of this is ridiculous. the deep dark needed more more things going on and more ways to alert a warden instead of just make ONE annoying way of alerting the warden and then making the warden incredibly op while you sit around for a few minutes waiting for it to leave. what failure of game design, it makes me want to revisit the aether to see if nostalgia is what has me regard it so highly because I can't understand how the same guy made the deep dark. not to even mention that this somehow got delayed 2 updates. almost every structure in the ancient cities was remade in a week by a dev to be better, which baffles me because if it took one week to create all these new structures why did it take a year to create the city at all? where is the rest of the development? it's incredibly under baked.

The major issue here is that we all want to go back in time when Minecraft came out and exploring the map in any given direction would fill us with awe and enjoyment, because everything was new and unexpected. Adding a couple blocks and small changes in biomes can keep you entertained for a while but then the old routines of dig - gather - dig - gather get back. The only real moment the game requires you to explore is when you got to go to the Nether for blaze rods, or to the End to get elithras and shulker boxes (and shulker boxes are useful for gathering anyway). No real new mechanics have been added and everything looks boring after the first 5 minutes because all objectives are still the exact same in our minds, and we know how to get there fast and effectively, while in the beginning even DARING to visit the nether was an achievement per se - now it is just a 30 mins stroll to find what I need and get back. I get why these updates, so scarce and far away from each others, are leave us players so underwhelmed.

What I honestly, truly want Mojang to do is go back to the early days of Minecraft Updates, where everything is more or less secret until it’s released. Allow some wonder, some emergent systems that haven’t already been pregamed months ahead of release. For each major release, they will have a series of videos detailing some of the major changes coming in the next release. When it comes to the official launch trailer, however, they have a fun way of introducing all the new features again AND introducing brand new features that they didn't talk about prior to the launch trailer. Fully agree, The Nether update was practicly a whole new game, when Cave and Cliffs was anounced I was worried they'd try to make massive overhaul every new version, ther's just no way to susainable to make such big changes like the Neather update and Caves and Cliffs every year, no matter how much money or people you put on the job, when you have to consider the design ideoligy of Mincraft, the difficulty of translating ideas to into working mechanics, plus the planning and start up on next years update, what happened this update is what I feared would happen then, Hopfully Mojang the importance of managing scope and planning in advance for these updates. Though if they do learn to do that and start big updates years before planned anouncements and then just sprinkle in small updates there will probly still be people during those inbetween updates that start complaining about how lazy Mojang has gotten.
@WildWombats
@WildWombats Жыл бұрын
While I agree, I don't think that's the case here. I think the case here is that they changed the name of the previous update naming system and gave us higher expectations. In other words, Mojang had already came out with two parts of Caves and Cliffs. The Warden and the Ancient City, which seem to be the main focus of the update, were features promised in 1.17 and so to us, naturally, was just part of the Caves and Cliffs update. It made the "Wild" update feel underwhelming and lacking in features, because we don't count Warden / Ancient City as Wild, we count it as part of the Cave Update. So to many people, it just feels like it was a frog, allay, and a mangrove update, which, you have to admit, does sound kind of lackluster for an entire update. The remedy for this whole problem was the way this was communicated to us. It by default set our expectations high when you named it something other than Caves and Cliffs. Warden and Ancient City were Caves and Cliffs. The only 'wild' Update we got was Frogs, allays, and mangrove swamp. That's how a lot of the community looks at this. Had it been Caves and Cliffs Part 3 update instead, we'd have seen the Allay, frog, and mangrove as a bonus, and the update would've been much more appreciated it. I think in trying to hype the community up, they went a bit too hype for an update that couldn't match the hype they gave.

when looking at the village and pillage update the aquatic update and the nether update the wild update seems pathetic in comparison especially looking at how much time they've had, imo i think this a in-fighting issue at Mojang and they didn't collectively know what they wanted the wild update to be so they had too many clashing ideas. the best solution wouldve been to split the update so they could've expanded both the deep dark and release it on time but more so they could've done more justice to the biomes, mini biomes inside bigger ones, new biome generation and even more. to call the wild update that is a disservice to the fans who regard the warden and ancient cities as the most notable and interesting part of te update

@Alcats

I think that while they did fail at adding the new updates it was a bit expected, SPECiALLY considering they changed so much in so few updates. The way I see it is that to implement so many huge changes in 1 update was way too much, but also doing it in 2 was then considering dragging it along. As well as the many features that were supposed to be implemented in the first part of the caves and cliffs that were then scrapped (archeology, revamp of old biome). After the fail of the caves and cliffs they should've gotten a new update not related at all to the caves cliffs archeology, a brand new idea and as well as that slowly add some of the features. Like maybe made the caves and cliffs add the terrain change and in the next update (an idea being a revamped structures) they could've also added the warden considering its a like a structure. And later eventually maybe come to add changes to the biomes in terms of revamping the old ones and adding maybe the cave biomes like the lush caves the stalagmite and stalactites. However it would have to be implemented right and with new ideas not only the old ones, as now they look like they have run out of ideas and the seemingly undying game might start to die down by the lack of new content. In the last 2 years we have only had recycled ideas or too much of the same.

Personally I love that we got frogs, the deep dark and the mangrove swamps, the problem I have with this update is that they foreshadowed so much more than what they added, and overstretched the time of the development. However it's not a big issue, and this update isn't big or very disappointing, but it is exaggerated. I understand why people are very mad about it though. On the other hand we got the most important stuff. I don't know why are people saying that it's the "downfall" of Minecraft, with just one disappointing update.

This mindset is what kills development. If we are not punishing Mojang for doing a terrible job but encouraging it, we will get disappointments as updates. I found it insultingly enough that the other biomes that lost the biome votes didn't get added in 1.15 which was about ... bug fixes and bees... But promising the world and then not living up to it should have been a mistake to learn from from 1.17 and yet they do it again... They don't learn from their mistakes and try to justify their incompetence in stupid ways like: We removed fireflies because frogs don't eat them. We never promised improved birch forests despite showing art of it and speaking about it when talking about 1.19 When we don't react negatively we will not see a change. EA's FIFA is a good example of releasing the same money laundering game every year with small to no changes but making Bank because the people don't care to voice their criticism. Star Wars Battlefront 2 received massive backlash and consequences from the fans as well and as a result the game improved a lot. So what I am saying is: Accepting Mojang's lies, false promises and incompetence will do nothing but set the bar for the future of the game lower and lower

I think another issue is that even some of the features that were added felt unfinished or incomplete. The mangrove swamp doesn't look bad, but the concept art looked more beautiful, more dense, with more plants and little details (for example, the moss covering more of the blocks, the fireflies, a dense fog, etc.) What we got looks basic in comparison, like it could've been more, even more so seeing how dense and atmospheric they made the ancient cities. The excuse for removing fireflies didn't make any sense either, as it wasn't their only purpose to be eaten by frogs, they were also there to make the swamp look nicer. Not to mention no overhaul to the birch forest, which makes the update's title feel out of place, since there wasn't much added in the overworld, not very "wild". The only thing that truly looks "complete" and "finished" were features promised years ago: The ancient city and the Warden. The update was good, but it was way less than what was shown in Minecraft Live, didn't live up to its name and some features felt rushed.
