@@potatoyes246 you don't need to drop $200 on a good shoe. you can get ~$200 running shoes for $100 every time the new model comes out. if you want the current model, you don't need to spend more than $175 with tax and everything for as good as you're going to get for a comfortable sneaker. If you want like a leather sneaker "fashion" kind of shoe, then yea, you're gonna spend at least $175 to $200 for a good one. but I wont name brands because the good ones are unknown to this crowd and I'd like to keep it that way. stick with all the trendy fad garbage this crowd is into. That doesn't mean he's no more fun; he's just matured. So I can't begrudge him. And yes, he is opinionated, but that's also what has attracted me to his channel from the beginning-that and his video quality. Overall, I think it's unfair to expect him to remain the same after all these year. The guy has grown; he runs five channels so his approach had to change. But if you're looking for someone fun, please give Arun from MrWhoseTheBoss.

Apple prices? This is absolutely run-of-the-mill pricing for modern sneakers. Everything hovers around $200 and there is a massive range in quality. I think these shoes kinda suck, but you're clearly paying for the extended R&D and collaboration process Atmos did with Marques, his KZfaqr brand cache, and the low-volume production numbers for a tiny startup brand. Their pricepoint makes perfect sense even if you want to hate it.

Yeah same, I don’t really get the comparison they’re making either. Escobar shit was just actual apple (or Samsung) products but in a facade pretending to be something better. They’re not an already good product dressed up as something worse, they’re just a bad product pretending to be good

It’s painful when you see something picked apart and the real quality shown, but I feel we should be made aware of what we are spending or money on since the costs of things are going up. just one thing: that rod running down the center of the calipers acts as a depth gauge when it sticks out, so you don't have to wedge the jaw in at an awkward angle. sure, three digits of precision on something like this isn't a critically huge deal, but it's good to see tools applied at their full potential.

Do you really think integrity is compatible with their livelihood? I mean, we live in a world where we're starting to feel the effects of climate change pretty heavily, where pollution is a huge problem and yet there are tons of clowns pushing useless gadgets and selling plastic shit through their yt channels because they like "cool tech 😎" (but what they like is mostly making obscene amounts of money). I've been waiting for this review sense Marques announced these. I love MKBHDs content and honestly am inspired a lot by Marques' mindset when it comes to KZfaq but when I saw these things as a big sneaker head I definitely wasn't in love with them. I'm very glad that this was a fair review that was a little harsh when deserved. With someone as big as MKBHD it wouldn't be weird for the review to be muted a little to not upset him or his fans but as expected from the Rose Anvil it was fair and didn't give him a pass on everything but also did take into account things like the company size and their goals.

Honestly the super cush, nothing but foam, design actually appeals to me for one use case and that's being on set at a shoot, standing around on concrete floors for 8-10 hours. But for that purpose I guess we have crocs and clogs and other super foamy / cushy shoes. I can see why he would love them for his job though.

at 6:16 in the video you need to use the "tail" or bottom of the caliper to measure depth. (use the depth rod on the calipers. First, unlock the top screw and adjust the thumb screw to get the rod to stick out. Continue to twist the thumbscrew until the end of the beam scale touches the top of the hole. Then, move the rod so it sits flat against the bottom of the hole.)

I've been wearing Atoms for a few years now. When I bought my first pair, they would send you three pairs a quarter size apart (so 10.25, 10.5, and 10.75 for me who usually wears 10.5) and you could keep the two shoes that fit you best even if they were different sizes. So the two I picked were the best fitting shoes I've ever had (left 10.75, right 10.5). And the quality was good... For $60. They still do the quarter sizes but they don't try the three pair try-on and different sizes for each foot thing anymore. But it's still a pretty ok shoe... for $60. I really couldn't imagine paying more for them.

One thing you are forgetting is that in small run product designs (these won't be mass produced) where some R&D needs to be done, will make a the product cost more from that alone. Not to mention a "brand" premium. So comparing the cost directly do a mass produced shoe that is not "branded" is not apples to apples comparison. Granted, even with that in mind, it still seems like it's a bit of a steep cost.

Watching Marques' video at the time of release, it sounds like the design process was extremely long. I'm wondering if maybe Atoms approached him about a collab, discovered he took it waaaay more seriously than they were expecting, and without the massive infrastructure that their competitors have, ended up having to charge the consumer for an R&D process that was costly to them. Either way, happy to see an honest review of these, and looking forward to better work from MKBHD and Atoms.

I don't buy that. All the Atoms shoes looks like they are similarly built but with only a mesh upper, and the cheapest ones they sell cost $145. It's more likely that Atoms are the ones doing the cash grabbing, and Marques just put his design on them and gets a kickback.
