Monsters Inc is one of Pixar's classic animated films in the early 2000's, Mike Wazowski, Randall, Sullivan, Sully and all the other crazy characters are super funny

I really like Monsters University, but I'm pretty sure that isn't the message. The message was that your dreams aren't always achievable regardless of how much you want them, not that it's fine to drop out of university entirely. Sully was expelled for cheating in the Scare Games, whilst Mike was expelled for going into the human world, not because the world of academia 'wasn't for them'. If anything, the success of the rest of Oozma Kappa proves that an institution like Monsters University really is the best choice as it grants new opportunities to even the most unlikely of candidates. Meanwhile, had Mike swallowed his pride, he could easily have changed to something that utilised his impressive scaring knowledge like a teaching course. He could have still been involved in the scaring profession he loved so much by becoming the next Professor Knight, and he would have passed a course like that no problem. Likewise, Sully could have aced the scaring program had he swallowed his pride and put in the effort instead of constantly relying on his family name. University 'not being for them' had nothing to do with it as they had all the tools they needed to succeed at their disposal. The pair of them were just too stubborn to accept their shortcomings until it was too late. Trying to teach kids that it's fine to drop out of the most prestigious educational institution out there to become mailroom clerks would actually have been a rather stupid lesson as real mailroom clerks would find it incredibly difficult to work their way up and out of a situation like that. It only worked out for Mike and Sully because the plot of the first film needed to happen. I think that scene was supposed to be a quick, charming way of wrapping up the film by demonstrating the value of both hard work and Mike and Sully's newfound teamwork, not the underlining message of the whole thing.

@@The_SafeKeeper the whole point is that some things you can't achieve, no matter how hard you put effort into it or try hard, BUT that doesn't mean you can't achieve other dreams that are possible, that's the what the movie's message is suppose to be lmao.
@SpectacleSpark
@SpectacleSpark Ай бұрын
lots of people hate hearing that type of message because they're so damn used to hearing "your dreams are possible if you just work hard enough!" when that's just not sometimes true, not everything is sunshine and rainbows, some things you just can't achieve but it doesn't mean you can't try other things

That's what's funny about this movie. It says that Mike can't be a scared because of how he looks, yet the pink blob guy proves that it doesn't matter. The reason Mike couldn't be a scared is because he never bothered to try a different tactic, like fucking prepping a place to make it scary. He would just go around doing what everyone else was doing

@@webbyishere I think the major difference is with Ratatouille, Linguini wasn't a good cook. Just like Gustav's words, "Anyone can cook" doesn't mean that just anyone can be a good cook, but that a good cook can come from anywhere. Remy is the one with the dream of becoming a chef. Linguini just needed a job. Remy wasn't a bad cook and just really wanted to be a chef. He had feedback that his skills was good, that he had the skill, just not the opportunity. I love both these movies and both their messages.

Watching this movie as a teenager, I didn’t really get it. But, after going off to college, and watching it again, I can confidently say that it is one of my favorite movies I’ve ever watched. I myself originally went to school to be a singer songwriter, but then Covid hit, and I ended up taking it entire year off of school. I used that time to figure out what really made me get up in the morning. Now, I’m a local television reporter working my way up to New York City. It is perfectly fine to not be good at something. But that means that you could be greater at something else.

The most interesting analysis I saw on this movie talked about how this is representation that disabled people need because it’s all movies about them doing the impossible and it ends up erasing the struggles they have and setting unrealistic expectations that they can do anything when the hard truth is they can’t. Seeing Mike struggle and put everything he has and still not succeed but find fulfillment and in being part of that dream in a different way is very realistic and much more comforting to disabled people.

You constantly get told you’re not smart enough but people don’t realize we can solve problems from an entirely different perspective. It’s the fact that Sully gives him that chance and prove he’s the soul of the team. It’s one of those messages where things don’t always get a perfect happy ending but you can still make the best of it and actually be happy. To add onto it I adore this prequel because like no one talks about specific college days unless you ask so it works perfectly and doesn’t break the lore of the first film. In fact I think it gives more light on the world in general for the first film and expands it which is a hard thing to accomplish..

I never realized this movie was underrated, i remember it being well liked but not as much as the original (obviously). Thought everyone knew it was up there with the pretty damn good movies for Pixar

4:41 I remember that when I had to study for math (or at least do those "homework for vacation so that you don't forget about what you have learned" textbooks), I would think of this song while doing it because it helped me feel like I was actually doing something and not struggling to get the answer due to distractions.

Monsters University is one of the better Pixar sequels, it’s actually very good, and I genuinely think the Scare Games are entertaining

I used to look down on it, because it felt like an unnecessary prequel that doesn't continue the Monster Inc story. But after Monsters at Work become a thing, I show way more appreciation to it and how it contributed to the world-building.

I hate how Pixar missed the clear joke of calling it “Miskatonic University” like a subtle nod to horrific monsters from beyond our realm of understanding go to school

10:58 Weird chapter name, I wouldn't have thought anyone would call this paranoid. Actually, it's pretty cool that they even have the option. I don't know if our Roku TV has that option.

As an adult, I fucking feel those ranger screams haha. In college my friends decided to have a night picnic in a remote part of campus. It is pitch black, we had been hearing about bears, and then this huge sound came from the bushes and we legit screamed like in the movie. . . . It was the sprinklers.
