It depends on the country, the more totalitarian it is, it tends to have greater adoption. Here in Brazil there are a lot of people using nostr and bitcoin. I believe we have the largest community and stores that accept/use bitcoin/nostr.

In Canada we don't have to worry about censorship! My bank account being frozen must have been an oversight. I love and trust the Government. I am looking forward to owning nothing and being happy by 2030.

The graph of Weekly Active Users I get today on Nostr Stats for the period November 23, 2023 to present looks rather different. It does not have the pronounced dip in December and has a gentle upward slope.

Weird you’re right… I literally screenshotted exactly what I pulled up at the time of making this so either way that’s not exactly comforting if the data can completely change in the span of a week or so. Maybe some cleaning of the data or other type of processing. Strange

A great and informative video! I was just telling myself that I need to try Nostr a bit more since I'm pretty much over the social media nonsense we are seeing recently. A question I have is: Can Nostr clients be used solely for social networking? The Bitcoin/wallet part of it makes me hesitant since I'm not sure what purpose it serves. Is it just a way to make money if you sell a product or service?

A lot of Nostr clients are currently focused on social media. Some have embedded wallets which just makes it easy to send and receive value directly in the app. There are also a lot of other apps being built on Nostr that are in earlier stages for eCommerce and other use cases

nostr needs client libraries. I'd add nostr support if there is a library for c#

Nostr is really a testament to the bazaar principle of technology. The base protocol is extremely simple, and it's easy for someone to get started with an account, but the full feature set is a complete clusterfuck which changes daily. And yet people can start simple and figure out the rest as needed, and so it works.

Think that’s a good assessment. Definitely chaotic currently but still very early and lots of experimentation and consensus-forming happening

Glad you found it helpful! There are still likes, but then there are also zaps which is sending a small amount of bitcoin to comments or users that you value. It depends on the Nostr client app you’re using, but in general you will either connect or setup a wallet from which you can zap others. Primal imo has the best UX for this

Isnt it important to keep your nsec private? Cant anyone now import your NOSTR account and act as you?

Yes if someone else gets your nsec, they can import it into whatever client app and pretend to be you

I tried it at first, but I could not get any useful answer nor useful interaction from anybody, so it is useless to me. Nostr might be improving, with devs, grants, integrations, etc. but the MVP (minimal viable product) is useless. So adding parts and upgrades to a core that does not work is useless IMHO. For interaction, questions, opinions, I prefer Twitter, Reddit, SN, KZfaq, etc. All of them allow me to reach people when I need it.

Twitter, Reddit, SN, KZfaq, etc. will censor you for talking about certain topics so they are even more useless. All you are seeing is whats being allowed, while most things are allowed, some things like religion and politics get deleted all the time. My phone allow me to reach people whenever I want, it can call and text people without the need for a second app, it's just built in. Your argument is garbage.
