I believe there was a planned 4th Dunk & Egg story set in Winterfell. I suspect in it we would see the same scene that Bran saw from the Weirwood. Perhaps the Frey bride does decide to go with Dunk on the rest of his adventure, who knows

Just had an idea. Would be poetic, kind of in line with the TV-series (at least some certain scenes), the books and the whole story would "make sense, but in a different way". I think a lot of people may have thought this too already, but what if Bran really will sit at the Weirwood tree at Winterfell when the Winter falls to Winterfell. Bran will die, but when he dies he will hop on to the Weirwood network and "kick" all the other entities that may roam in the Weirwood network. And during Dream of Spring, everyone by then will know that Bran is living inside the earth. He is the Seven Kingdoms, everything before and after Seven Kingdoms -> so he becomes "the king", but not a king you'd expect to sit on a throne as a target, but almost as an omnipotent being inside the weirwood network and with his powers he will push The Winter way back North and make the earth flourish again with grass. So basically Bran becomes summer. That's why he has a direwolf called Summer. As GRRM said "It starts with the children and ends with the children". 1. Sansa becomes her direwolf - Lady. The Lady of Winterfell. 2. Bran becomes his direwolf - Summer. By bringing the Summer and letting Winter pass. 3. Jon becomes (or became) his direwolf Ghost - I guess by becoming "a living ghost", like Benjen. And he'll roam the North like Benjen, guarding the realms of men, looking like him. 4. Arya is a bit trickier, but hear me out. Nymeria was named after the warrior-queen who led the refugees of Rhoynar to Dorne. Maybe Arya becomes Nymeria and because of the devastation that might occur in the next book to Dorne, she will lead the refugees of Dorne to somewhere else, maybe West of Westeros as mentioned, maybe somewhere else. 5. Rickon is basically the definition of a shaggy dog story. In its original sense, a shaggy dog story or "yarn" is an extremely long-winded anecdote characterized by extensive narration of typically irrelevant incidents and TERMINATED BY AN ANTICLIMAX (Source: Wikipedia). Rickon's role in the story is basically being in the shadow of the "main events", but he is there, experiencing everything too. And at least the Rickon in the show gets terminated by an anticlimax - an arrow to the back. He was nothing but a bait (in the show, prolly in the books too). 6. Robb is dead and everybody thinks Grey Wind is too in the books at some point because the small folk spread the rumors of Grey Wind's head sown onto Robb's head. And there's a lot of "hearing a wolf in the wind" during that. "There was ice underfoot, and broken stones just waiting to turn an ankle, and the wind was howling fiercely. It sounds like a wolf, thought Sansa. A ghost wolf, big as mountains. (AFFC Alayne II)" Robb's last words "Grey Wind", echoes Jon's last words "Ghost". So it would give a huge clue that the dead Starks are within their direwolves and the living ones are so bound to their own pup's that they are "slowly turning into them" or maybe the pups were always like each individual Stark was and will be. Where I'm getting is that when GRRM got the idea for the first scene and it was vivid as it was, maybe he had the idea of having a family, who will find direwolf pups and the direwolves are the KEY of what is to become of the children or what will happen to them. There might be a lot of stuff I'm missing out on and there might be a lot of contradicting stuff in the books, but when I wrote this it felt really natural and made sense so - just my two cents. At least if this was the whole case the story would make sense. Not too magical, not too far-out, not too sci-fi - just really well written story of people and their best friends in the world. Dogs. Did you know GRRM had a lot of pet turtles that died in his hands? Before ASOIAF he wrote "Turtle Castle" as one of his first novels. He was so sad by the deaths of the turtles that he started to create stories for them, they fought and lived in castles and basically lived in a version of the Seven Kingdoms inside George's head. Just to make him feel a bit better and give a meaning and a backstory even to the smallest of creatures - in his case - pet turtles. Maybe he was still thinking about the turtles, got an idea of direwolves being the animals, since GoT with Turtles would be kind of weird. If you read this far, I thank you. If you think this sucks, have a nice day! If you think this made sense, oh boy, get me those last two books fast. Maybe the bittersweet ending would be that (almost) all of the Starks die, but they'd all say their pups name as their last word and doing so, they'd get another chance at life, totally different of course, as direwolves, as real Starks, as the real wolves of North they were always destined to be. That way we would get a pretty bittersweet ending if they all die, but at the same time, have another chance in life. As "real direwolves" of the North the Starks were seen by so many and then some. 'When a dog goes bad, the fault lies with his master.' - GRRM (some self-reflection there, I think.. ;)).

He was never the greatest at the joust, and mediocre at best with a sword, but his valor and virtue, and loyalty to those whom he loved was unmatched. Ser Ducan The Tall was without a doubt the most noble and greatest Knight to ever live. He would have been incredibly proud of Brienne Of Tarth .

Hmmm. I guess my thought is why would a Frey from (arguably) one of the great noble houses , be a wet nurse? That is something for the small folk. Idk, I like this theory, but I just don’t think the Starks would allow a noble lady to be treated in this manner, no matter how hard-pressed she may be.

I have always believed that the biggest plot hole in the story is that Old Nan didn't figure out that Jon Snow was Lyanna's baby. Ned Stark goes off to fight a war to rescue his sister who was allegedly "kidnapped and raped". Ned comes home with a dead sister and a live baby. Ned tells everyone that his sister died in childbirth and the baby is his (Ned's) bastard. So there is Ned with a dead mother but not her baby (living or dead). Also, Ned is holding a live baby with no mother and wont answer questions about the mother. And no one questions this? My wife and sisters would have worked out the math on that in about 2 1/2 seconds. Old Nan would have figured it out. Katelyen Stark would have figured it out. Sansa and Arya would have figured it out as soon as Sansa hit about 10 years old. Women figure things out. Especially when it comes to relationships and children.

How did a Frey become a wet nurse and servant? Why didn't the Freys take her back after her rebel husband was defeated? If she was or wasn't born a Frey, she's a servant now.

I don't believe old nan or any other wet nurses are highborn girls, I believe they are usually lowborn women in service to highborn families. She probably came from the twins and might be the lowborn mother of a noble bastard but I doubt she was a frey

Could you help look more into a theory of mine? It's a show only theory and the theory I would like looked into is Bran the Broken as king. I know that it only happened due to D&D's bad writing, but what if in the actual show world/lore...it was something else. What if Bran was playing the best game that could be played, the waiting game. Bran talked about not being king, a Stark, and even a person once this whole three eyed raven took hold (which Jon complained a lot about as well, so it could just be a curse of if I don't want it then I'll get it...as the world do) yet he becomes king at the end of the show...what if Bran agreed/lied about him becoming king...as a place holder for someone more qualified who actually wanted it or at least would fit better than the people that were there at the time. What if when they found the person who is to be king and then Bran laughs before throwing up his middle fingers while becoming one with the trees like one or possibly a few of the other three eyed ravens did (there may be more than what we know of)? So, a theory about Bran being a placeholder king till someone else and who that someone else would be? There's no way it hell that the universe would leave someone so knowing and powerful to have positions like that as it throws of history and balance...and would make things too easy which I feel doesn't fit with the world of game of thrones. I'll possibly be asking for other theories as I think of them and as time goes on, but I'd really like to see that as a theory that Bran is playing them by pretending to be king and just buying time for the right one... whoever that may be...

Yeah her Husband was shamed and demoted but as we seen in GOT that doesn't mean your own family wouldn't support you. Family ties are a big deal in this world. Everything you said does fit nicely but without a full understanding of the society it feels a lot like trying to push a Sqare object into a round slot.

Ok, so I don't buy this theory. First of all, it supposes that the woman in question seen kissing Dunk in Bran's vision was Old Nan, which although is neat, is a huge leap and probably doesn't fit the timeline. In The World of Ice and Fire we received the full Stark family tree. From it, we can confirm that the Brandon mentioned in this video was in fact the child that Old Nan came to Winterfell to wet nurse. The latest year that is possible is 226, as you say, but was most likely earlier. The Mystery Knight is set in 212AC and is the third story we have of Dunk and Egg so far. Throughout TMK, we learn that Dunk and Egg are heading North to serve Lord Beron Stark in defending the North from the Ironborn raids of Dagon Greyjoy. The next book in the series was given the working title of The She-Wolves of Winterfell, and we have been given some information by George about what it's going to be about. It is set in Winterfell, and presumably will occur in 213 or 214AC as Beron Stark is dying from wounds sustained while defending the North from the Ironborn. It does not seem to me likely that this story could occur any later than 214AC, not just because I don't think there can be that big a time gap between the 3rd and 4th novellas, but also because the events of the She-Wolves are mentioned in TMK, and it seems unreasonably that Dagon's raid would go on unresolved by Northern forces for more than two years. Beron Stark is in his thirties and has seven children with his wife Lorra Royce. There seems to be a succession crisis, played out by the widows of the last four Lord Starks and the current Lady Stark. Given Beron has seven surviving children including five sons, it is likely that the succession crisis is a regency crisis, and the five Lady Starks are fighting for control of the regency of Lord Donnor Stark. This makes some sense. Beron being is his thirties, it is unlikely that his eldest is older than the age of majority in Westeros (16) and would still need a regent. Given that Lorra Stark is a foreigner from the South it makes sense that there would be internal northern opposition to her becoming regent, and so she is fighting a political battle against her opponents which will include some of the previous Lady Starks, and perhaps one or two are supporters of Lorra, or more ambivalent about the regency itself. Robb Stark was 15 when he became Lord Stark (and later King in the North) but because he was leading an army in wartime, and close to his majority, there was no regent. As such, Donnor is probably 14 at the oldest. Willam is the second child of Beron Stark and Lorra Royce, and so he would be at least a year younger than Donnor (making him likely 13 at the oldest). Willam is the father of Old Nan's Brandon. Yes it is possible, but very unlikely that a 13 year old Willam Stark would be married to a noblewoman and have a son, especially considering his older brother, the heir, is not married, probably requires a regent, and is definitely not old enough to assume power himself. I just don't see that Brandon Stark being born in 213-214AC for Old Nan to arrive in Winterfell in time to meet Dunk and have a romance with him. So who could this girl kissing Dunk in Bran's vision be? Well, given that most of Bran's visions in that sequence have a Stark connection, why not a woman from House Stark? A brown haired girl "slender as a spear" in front of the heart tree in the Winterfell godswood screams to me Stark. Perhaps she's Arsa Stark, Beron's younger sister (he don't know her exact age but if seems to fit), and she and Dunk are the two in the vision. Now I definitely think Hodor is a descendant of Dunk's, but that doesn't mean that Old Nan has to be the one to have got with Dunk. She could have married Dunk's illegitimate son, or her son could have married Dunk's daughter/granddaughter. I highly recommend Preston Jacob's video on the She-Wolves of Winterfell as it makes these observations and predictions, and more (going into the four widows of Lord Starks). As to more reasons why I doubt Old Nan is a Frey, I can't see a highborn lady running off, no matter how impoverished or embarrassed by the stain of treason, to be a wet nurse. In such a hierarchical feudal society, I just don't see it. Additionally, there would have to be some indication of Old Nan's speech not being Northern or low born to convince me, but no one makes any note of her accent, so we can assume it is Northern, and sentence "It be dragons, boy" doesn't strike me as very highborn. Her extensive knowledge of northern mythology and folklore seem to point to her also being neither Southron or high born. Why would her great grandson Walder be named the same name as her brother who ratted her out for being with a pot boy, which led to her marrying a weak, indecisive, traitorous fifty year old who according to this theory she would run away from?
