does anyone realise that if all teams have a bye during origin- (but still play all 24 games) that the grand final won’t be on a long weekend. and if we were desperate to keep the long weekend AND change the origin period (keeping it within the nrl season), the teams may need to play 3 less games… that probably made no sense ahah 😅

If you have half the Queensland origin team then you have an advantage over teams that don’t have so many rep players. The Broncos have plenty of advantages over other teams. The biggest club with one of the biggest areas to find and develop talent. I don’t see how they can’t dominate like panthers has, but do it for longer periods. Look at the players panthers have had move on to new clubs in the past couple of seasons. If broncos gave up half that talent they’d be winning spoons.

Since the mid 2000s, Melbourne have lost just as many, if not more, key players during origin as Brisbane have. Smith, Slater, Cronk, Inglis, etc. Vital players. It's never bothered them. Also, this isn't the late 1990s, when Brisbane were losing half their team every May to July. Their origin contribution is far less than it used to be. Even Penrith have found themselves decimated during origin recently, and have still managed to make the last 4 GFs, winning 3 of them. Up until last year, Brisbane were a one town team in the biggest league market in the country. They've had all the advantages for a long, long time. Don't blame their inexplicable eighteen-year premiership drought on origin.

Origin is great! Allows your clubs development player to shine. One man out, next man up. The way it should be. In the middle of the season. Its a leveler. It allows clubs lower in the table to compete against the clubs at the top if drawn that way. Its a win, win situation. Unknown players get exposure and opportunities that they may otherwise be overlooked when teams Origin stars are included. It gives origin quality players, regardless of where your team is in the ladder, the chance to shine enjoy and play their style of footy amongst other top players without the expectation of trying to lift your club team into form on the back of their own talents. Let players shine when the opportunity comes.

The problem with sin bins is that the refs don't really have another option. Penalties are penalties, but maybe if it's between a sinbin and a penalty it's an auto 2 points. So the ref just awards the other team 2 points?

Sitting in second is a testament to the Penrith's coaching and youth set up, but there's no reason Origin shouldn't just be a weekend spectacle with all teams having a bye.

I agree with Buzz. Get origin done in 3 weeks.. It’s affects the comp for 7 dam weeks as it is.. Do it in 3, put the women’s in that 3 weeks aswell and maybe something else and get on with the comp.. all teams are affected equal then.. origin has always hurt Brisbane the most as most of qld players come from Brisbane.. we only really have broncos, cowboys, titans and Melbourne to choose from and now redcliff.. As an UK based NRL fan I totally agree with Buzzon this. Whilst I know STATE OF ORIGIN is huge in Australia I find it absolutely mad all the top players are missing or playing flogged for their clubs for the best part of 6 weeks every season for something that the rest of the world has absolutely no interest in .
