I think the 1st 15 minutes of Revenge of The Sith is arguably the best opening of all of the Star Wars movies. I absolutely love the opening sequence. The bass drum beats, the shuttles flying over the destroyers and then BAM..entering this massive space battle. It's beautiful. I love Revenge of the Sith...and I think it gets remembered more fondly as time goes by. It's my favorite post original trilogy Star Wars movie, and it's the Star Wars movie I rewatch the most.

@sageoverheaven
@sageoverheaven 4 жыл бұрын
@Darth Cameron A lot of ROTS dialogue lines were so bad, they became the most powerful thing in this world. Memes. So a defense would be how the dialogue has aged. It's hard to emulate such a phenomenal fuck-up. Also, ROTS' high points were the highest in the franchise. When it nailed something, it nailed something. Especially the finale leading to Vader, where Yoda vs Sidious swapped with Obi Wan vs Anakin. The music also slapped.

It's definitely John Williams' best score of the prequels. The Battle of Heroes music, the incorporation of the Force theme as an action cue, and many heart-breaking tracks (such as the order 66 music, the funeral theme, "It can't be", etc) really mark this as one of John Williams' finest.

The PT is the only prequel where I still got emotionally vested even though I knew what the outcome would be. I liked Solo, but everytime Han and Chewie were in a perilous situation, I knew they wouldn't die, so I wasn't on the edge of my seat. I like back stories so I always like prequels, but the PTs, especially 2 & 3, still had me in that suspension-of-disbelief mindset, where Solo wasn't able to get me there.

I believe revenge of a sith could almost stand alone. It has enough back story to give everybody enough feeling that it was explaining Star Wars but doesn’t have too much of th boring parts (ie. not much jar jar, not much of the “I hate sand” lines”. The start of rots two ships unknown who is in there for the first 30 seconds fly around, we find the duo (obiwan and anikan) finding grevous’ ship. It would probably help not explaining grevous until the bridge scene grevous gets explained. Palpating is rescued padme is explained as anakin and obiwan landed. I’m not gonna spill the whole plot that’s a lot of typing but my point is revenge of the sith would probably do the job for most of the prequels

In short, yes it is the best one. The OT had flaws as well. I still remember seeing this at the midnight screening and as soon as it started switching between Anakin in the temple and Padme in her apartment, without a word being said you knew it was about to go down. It shows how close Anakin and Obi Wan were when they could talk without talking, the heartbreak of Obi Wan after he defeated Vader and let's not forget the opera scene!

I think revenge of the sith had cool idea’s that gave the film a lot of potential, but idea’s are only as good as the execution and in terms of the execution, I mean… Revenge of the sith is very poorly written, poorly directed film that is ridden with plot holes and contrivances that could’ve been easily avoided. I think the scene where anakin is getting burned is the most powerful scene in the movie. Obi wan being sad just multiplies the emotion along with seeing his friend burn and become a totally different and evil person. His screams of pain and the I HATE YOU albeit a bit cringey, they make me cry every time. Also his face and expressions are really well done. I think where Hayden Christensen failed in dialogue, he excelled masterfully in facial expressions.

Qatrebew The prequels are objectively horrible films. You don’t even need to care about SW to reach that judgment. You just need to understand what makes a good film.
@Qatrebew

@@violator7964 give some examples with words then. Objective is a ludicrous term to use when talking about how YOU feel when watching a MOVIE You've been watching too many pseudo-intellectual frauds like RLM if you honestly think a work of art can be quantified.
@Qatrebew
@Qatrebew 5 жыл бұрын
@worldd777 The movie(s) made total sense. RLM try to 'break' the movies' logic, but all they really do is turn off their brains and don't actually analyse or READ the movies. Nitpicking, making up idiotic arguments ("qui gon jinn is a bad character, we can't remember what he's like!") just show they are not interested in trying, they're being dishonest and they have an agenda. You can view the prequels as a tragedy in a shakespearean way, as a conspiracy movie, as a critique/allegory on modern society or as a critique on the world of star wars itself.
@Qatrebew
@Qatrebew 5 жыл бұрын
@worldd777 Ok. First we can start with delving deeper with you explaining what "bad" dialogue means? This is the problem with RLM reviews. They say dialogue is bad, when they really mean dialogue is not snappy or "hip". They want the movie to sound more like jurassic park, or a marvel movie. In reality, George Lucas just created dialogue that doesn't sound naturalistic, but rather evokes an earlier time of cinema and theatre. It's, like everything else, to serve a point. RLM are projecting their own ideas of what everything SHOULD be on the movie, ignoring the TEXT (the actual substance). They are wrong about the role of the jedi, narratively, of anakin, of obi-wan and of palpatine. They think Anakin is too "awkward" and "stiff" when that makes perfect sense for his character, and is part of what makes that young slave-turned-jedi character work. They think the jedi are too "stupid" when in fact the jedi play the role of an idealistic but decadent and corrupted institution that doesn't understand its already influenced by the dark side.
@Qatrebew
@Qatrebew 5 жыл бұрын
@worldd777 you completely missed the Point regarding midichlorians. It's true that the jedi are using midichlorians to determine who is worthy or not, but we should not take that as a true representation on how the force really works. Rather, it should illustrate just what state the jedi are in, during the prequels. They are literally blind, they use technology (remember the Death star trench run??) instead of using their spirit. Anakin is chosen based on a mathematical number, further increasing his alienation and pride. Anakin had already been stewing and brooding under jedi leadership for his entire adult Life, but was still very loyal, and turned palpatine in. He received only suspicion. Add to the fact that HE can see very vivid force visions, which made him CERTAIN that padme was about to die. Going with palpatine was his only choice, after helping kill windu, he would use his efficient killing ability against the jedi instead. For Love. It makes total sense, him being capable of mass murder since Episode 2 has been established, and his animosity towards the jedi, and his complex towards padme (mommy issues!). It was a done deal, all palpatine had to do was give him a push. Remember Anakin was already a fascist in episode 2, and had his doubts about the whole system of government, he was a slave when the jedi ruled the republic, and Everything that transpired can, in his mind, be traced to the fact that the jedi are weak, and do weak, cowardly decisions.

I agree with the General Grievous argument, he is a side quest. And suddenly in the third movie of the trilogy he is so important and so villanous, but we havent heard of him before, its just not believable. In my opinion, they should have replaced Grievous with Darth Maul instead, because then the final battle between Maul/Grievous and Kenobi would have more weight, as Maul wanted revenge against Kenobi, Kenobi would want revenge for his love from Mandalore forgot her name. It is fine if they almost skip Maul for Attack of the Clones, or just show a small scene with him being resurrected, and then he is back for revenge against Kenobi. That would have been awesome. Otherwise amazing movie.

The last-minute inclusion of the opera scene was a stroke of genius. Episode 3 is easily the best of the prequels, but as ThorSkywalker has stated, all three prequel stories would have benefitted by someone saying "no" to George Lucas. Kasdan's directing and the actors improvising a bit made Empire the masterpiece it is. The prequel trilogy may have been received better with similar feedback from the actors.

I've never been as excited for a movie as I was when I sat down for RotS on opening night with my dad. I was literally shaking in my seat with anticipation for a good portion of the film; because at the time this was it, this was the final SW film. Knowing that this was the bridge from the Prequels to the OT is an aspect I always liked about RotS, and it did that pretty darn good overall. From the opening throwing you right into the action, to Palpatine setting his master plans in motion, to the final moments setting the OT in motion; RotS is in my eyes the epitome of what SW can achieve in scope and have a lasting impact. Its honestly been my favorite SW movie ever since I sat down in the theater so many years ago.

One of my gripes with RotS was how Lucas tried to wrap everything up by the end of the film, even though there was this nearly 20 year gap between Episode III and IV. Like the Clone War had to be over, the Jedi destroyed and scattered, Luke on Tatooine, the Death Star being made with Tarkin eyeing it down(So I guess he just hangs out there for 19 years?), Yoda already on Dagboh.

Would just like to point out that the lightsaber fights, whilst good, all suffer from odd editing choices that slightly lower my enjoyment of them. I think to say harmonization of the inner light and darkside of the prime Jedi is a better way to describe the ideal relationship than balance. The prime Jedi doesn't use both the lightside and the darkside but they do acknowledge their irreducible darkside as a part of being an expression of the living Force. Even a blade of grass casts a shadow. The diligent inner work of the prime Jedi with their irreducible darkside is then not repression like the Jedi order of the prequels or sociopathic cultivation like the Sith but a continuous resolution in illuminating their dark with the light.

In addition to this he had accepted his death and knew that it was his time to join the force and and become a force ghost. The pure hatred in Anakin’s voice on Mustafar easily eclipses Yoda’s death emotionally and is my reason for believing that it is by far more emotional.

I can understand the reasoning behind the Dark Side quickly taking over someone. And in pure theory, I'm sure a good rationale for it could be made for it if given time... but based on what is shown in "Revenge of the Sith," I don't think that rationale for sudden and complete corruption would actually apply to Anakin. For we must remember that the presented reason for him to turn to the Sith was to save Padme from death. To save HER life. Anakin didn't turn for conquest or glory but to save someone else's life. Essentially his own love being his demise. And it's because of that that I wouldn't think that the time for him to go from disarming Windu to the march on the Temple would be enough to make that sort of leap. Particularly when most of the conflict that Anakin had had with the Jedi was shown to be with the Council, and at times with Obi Wan. Thus... it would be more logical in that space that Anakin would argue to deal maybe with the masters and later indoctrinate the younglings and only kill them if they resist. And maybe there was a scene like that... but it wasn't shown, so as far as we knew... Anakin had suddenly went from turning to the Dark Side to save Padme to killing for killing's sake and not really caring about Padme.

@@quasarsoul3647 - I agree that he wanted to save her... but through the prequel movies, at the times when we see Anakin at his "worst" has been with regard to the actions of others to him... Such as with the Tuskans in "Attack of the Clones." They'd already tortured his mother when he found her and she died in his arms which was to represent a great deal of emotional pain to him... particularly as he was still emotionally attached to her, even in "the Phantom Menace." Thus when she died, he took vengeance on those responsible for her death. And with the movies... we don't see anything that would indicate that the Temple Younglings treated him poorly or did anything that would leave emotional scars. Perhaps there is something in the Legends expanded universe that shows this in a book or a comic, but it's not shown in the movies. Thus with what is shown in movies... one think there would need to be more than just Palpatine's order, because the Younglings had done nothing to him on screen. And while there is some "issue" with the "Rule of Two" that the Jedi would be aware of to a degree... Both in Legends and in Canon the Sith Order DID expand. You had Dooku who trained both Grievous and Assajj Ventress. So... if there can only be two... then why was Ventress trained? And then after the formation of the Empire, the Sith would expand to include a host of inquisitors, many of who were former Jedi. Look at Jerec in video game series where you play as Kyle Katarn. And in canon its all the characters that showed up with their helicopter lightsabers in "Rebels." So it's not like the Sith Order couldn't expand if need be and that it would be impossible to do so. And that's where my point on making the offer and only applying lethal force if it is resisted. If they turn, Palpatine gets an Inquisitor, if not, the Youngling has then done something that could be taken as justification for lethal action.

What people fell to understand about anikan and his turn is that it was a 10 to 15 year down hill slide. Also Palpatine was secretly making every event that turned him to the dark side. In attack of the clone scene number 3 when Palpatine asked for a close friend to protect Padmae and suggested Obi One and Mace Windu said that's possible was when it started. Also look at the scene after he killed his mother the words he spoke should've shown enough, their holding me back, I promise I'll even learn how to save people from death, I'll become the strongest jedi ever. Think about those words. Then we get to the marriage of him an Padmae, where he grew so attracted to her that Palpatine used his Sith magic to show him visions of padmae's death, which he then told him about Darth Plagues the Wise. The man who can save people from dying. And when he revealed he was the sith lord and said only through me can you obtain power strong enough to save Padmae was when the true turn started. Sitting in the temple being casted aside by the other masters and knowing Mace would kill Palpatine he came to his rescue. The turn was evident the whole time. People miss the saddle things Palpatine did to corrupt Anikan. Saddle but deadly. If people paid attention they'd see his mind tricks on screen

ROTS is my favorite. ESB is second to me. I know it’s not perfect, but none of them are. The soundtrack is amazing too.

There was no need for PM. But looking back. It should have gone episode 2 as 1 then so on. With rogue one as episode 3.

I remember when the MTV Movie Awards gave Hayden Christensen the Golden Popcorn trophy for best villain. It was a travesty. Anakin Skywalker wasn't the villain of episode 3, it was Palpatine and Ian McDiarmid's performance was masterful.

Anakin being in the council chambers, contemplating the light vs the dark...the Jedi Order vs his wife and unborn child. All this turmoil elevated with Williams' amazing score and this, to me, is the pinnacle moment in the entire Saga.

Easily one of the best scenes of the whole saga. So much emotion without a single word being uttered.
