Ritalin and Adderall are usually lumped together as stimulants used to treat ADHD, and the government tightly controls their use. But based on both efficacy and adverse effects, Ritalin behaves more like "non stimulants" than it does like Adderall (amphetamine).

I’ve taken every single stimulate under the sun for ADD and the one I hated the most was Ritalin. It made me so spaced out and zombie like and I would constantly pick at my skin while having huge anxiety and paranoia. Not fun at all.

I'm taking methylphenidate at the moment for my ADHD. The calming effect it has is huge for me! I wouldn't mind being addicted to a drug that you need to function better. Would you call people taking heart medication for the rest of their life "addicted"?

Nope, addiction has a fairly clear clinical definition and regular use in and of itself doesn't imply addiction.

Heart medication doesn't boost your mood like Ritalin does and also some people need heart medication to literally stay alive. That was a terrible comparison.

Same here, the concerta makes me feel calm like l theanine and I but mentally focused while having a good mood. I think it’s much more clean then bupropion. All of these medicine can help, it’s about find the right one for you!

@@lachousalle31 Ritalin does far more than "boost your mood", lol... most notably it affects impulsiveness, awakeness, attentiveness and recall/memory. This in and of itsself can "boost your mood" for other reasons than simply "boosting your mood"...

Dr, If i can ask,What happend with Desoxyn Gradumate 10 ,15,20 mg exented release,it was taken off the u.s market in mid 90s.D-methylamphetamine was above than mixed amphetamine salts or d-amph,true? just like dexamphetamine or adderall r above than mph.Also i ve heard Dexedrine IR or ER r very rare now,Vyvanse s safer option? Cylert (pemoline) also out ? But Desoxyn 15 mg or 20 mg extendet release made by Abbott must be great,2-3 pills for all day.

I don't know the specifics on that. Most people are amazed to find out that some doses of Desoxyn, which is methamphetamine, are still available by prescription.

Amphetamines stimulate my nervous system too much...I would take the pill, then urinate for 10 minutes straight (!) and end up dehydrated for days because I could barely drink while on it. Even more debilitating...Amphetamines rev me up so much i lose coordination in my fingers so typing/mouse computer work is full of bugs/mistakes. My creativity was also blunted to nothing on Amphetamines but on Concerta I felt more creative and motivated to produce music. Adderall i only wanted to do work/business ie make $$ :) Its good for coding/ceo/executive work..PHDs..but not designing or creating new realistic strategies or working in teams. Adderall is Superman, Concerta is Spiderman. And everbody knows Spiderman is much cooler and nicer. Superman saves the day but then he runs off... an overstimulated Adderal user!! :)

I've started on meds just recently, I don't feel like I'm on meds taking Ritalin OSM, but they are having trouble getting it I needed to do adderall, working 12 hr days I'd get irritable 8hrs in so they switched my to Vyvance which makes the crash easier but both caused insomnia. Ritalin I felt like a more focused version of myself. I could see how someone could be manic on the others but I guess I got to tough it out until they get the problem fixed but I'd move back to Adderall since the Vyvance isn't much better just more expensive.

It can be tricky finding the formulation that works best for you, and once you've identified it, it may not be available.

Can this Ritalin and therapy help people with MS while using DMT. Involving motivation, working memory, concentration, counteracting hypo-activity. Or is this more for therapy and antidepressants Or something else.

I'm not aware of any research that has looked at the combination of methylphenidate and N,N-Dimethyltryptamine (DMT) for MS. Methylphenidate helps many people with MS with energy and motivation, but I would approach it cautiously and at low doses if DMT is in the picture.

Dr. Kruse, is it true that MAOIs work well for patients with interpersonal rejection sensitivity?

I have another video on this channel about rejection sensitive dysphoria. The psychiatrist who promotes this as an essential part of ADHD has extensively praised MAOI for this, but the data is amazingly paltry. Doesn't mean it won't work, but the claims far surpass any evidence of superiority of MAOI over other antidepressants or mood elevating agents for this use.

How is modafinil a non-stimulant? I used to take it daily, it certainly was very stimulating.

Definitions of "stimulant" are loose and highly variable, but usually refer to tapping into the fight or flight sympathetic nervous system (usually with norepinephrine). Chemically that doesn't seem to be how modafinil works in most people, so their common response is to be alert and attentive but not over activated. From what I have seen, about 10% of people do feel revved up by modafinil. In many (but not necessarily all) of these individuals, it seems that the body is responding to modafinil with a partial panic attack, and that for many of these individuals, if they go down to a lower dose, and stick with it, this revved up sensation goes away.

Some people do better with an increased dose, and for many the new dose continues to be effective for years. For others tolerance developes. For most people there are alternatives, including agents like guanfacine, Qelbree, buproprion, or amphetamines.
