I have the exact opposite of this syndrome lmao XD everytime i try to draw the same character or twins they always look so different ;-;
@carameldansen2274
@carameldansen2274 4 жыл бұрын
Try to take a big sheet of paper and draw again and again the character, and locate where you have difficulties to recreate! If it's the eyes, make references or change the shape to be simplier or more recognizable. Having sketches of your character around your sketch helps, so you will spy on the other sketches and recreate what makes the character. If you know you're going to draw again and again this character, it's better to do something like this to register a unique way to draw them instead of going in every direction.

Here’s a tip: If you’re still struggling with same face syndrome Start with changing the eye shape, then the nose shape, then lastly the mouth shape. Those first steps will help so much. And if after those three changes, if it still look to similar; change the less noticeable facial features. It will really help.

@I'm a UwU monster I think the only advice I have is to stop drawing so many FNaF characters. Literally all the animatronics have similar features, with only a few exceptions like Balloon Boy, or the Toys, or the Puppet. Study pictures and try to replicate them. Only things I can think of - I kinda have it myself, only it's reserved for the boys. I guess it says something about how I see men.

Not a Gacha fan but there’s a difference between same body syndrome and art style. You see, Gacha seems like chibi and I think Chibi has the same body style but different hair, eyes and clothes. This is what makes it a different and unique art style than other art styles (because in other art styles there are so many body shaped however Chibi has strict rules). Hope you understand what I’m trying to say and thanks for taking your time reading this reply. Edit: ik this is a joke but this is for people who hate on Gacha because the characters “look the same” so here’s the explanation

A really good way i found to see if your characters look too similar is to take out your Switch and make Miis of them. If you're having to reuse the same parts too many times you'll know. Not just that by the way, the Mii maker is a really good tool to make characters in general! I was playing Miitopia switch, decided to make a bunch of OCs on the spot to be the ten main heroes, and those guys turned out to be the most diverse looking group of designs I've ever made! I totally recommend trying it out.

I mainly draw cats, and it can be REALLY hard for me not to draw the same faces, because the differences in face shapes in cats are much more subtle. I think the main thing I do, is just try to draw different shapes for the heads when I’m sketching. Some shapes for cats are circle, triangle, or square. This helps a lot, especially when you have a base, and you can chose different features that compliment it. (I know I sound like I know what I’m talking about, but I’m just sharing something I’ve just discovered, so I recommend to take this with a grain of salt! 😂)

Thank you for mentioning same body syndrome. That's been bothering me for some time now. I think muscle memory began to take over a little too much after I switched to anime style, and I've been trying to push myself back out of it over the last couple of years. I used to worry a lot about same face syndrome, and I think I do kinda fall into that trap here and there, but most of the time I choose different facial features for different characters, even if they're already existing characters. For instance, in some fan art I've drawn of Hotaru from Sailor Moon and Sasami from Tenchi Universe, I gave them different jaw lines, different muscular build (slightly)., and different eyebrows (as well as different eyes and hair, of course). I think I even drew their ears differently, too. I feel like I still have a lot of room to grow as far as same-face goes. I've noticed that male characters, especially in shounen, often have wildly different facial features (the fewer appearances the character makes, the wilder), but in shoujo (at least for slightly older titles) the female characters are way too similar (think of Sailor Moon), and just about the only exceptions are the rarely-appearing characters (like villains). I kind of try to aim somewhere in between the two myself, for whatever that's worth.

People are going to say "oh but so and so just made this video" and im here to clarify. 1: it takes days and even weeks to create a video, not something you just do overnight. She wouldnt have saw a recent video and immediately go "mmmmmmm yeah me too" 2: most youtubers (not all) have a schedule, or a basic plan as to what their next few videos will be about. 3: these things happen. People can make videos like other people or get inspired to do that thing. This has been a discussion

Kpop and Korean Nobelas: “We don’t do that around here” -Also, as an animator on flipaclip, I beg to God that people tell me I have same face syndrome and then point out species or head shapes, I mean it’s good for a web comic that you have different heads but on an animation.... no
@user-jc8by2wj8g
@user-jc8by2wj8g 2 жыл бұрын
Honestly im confused about how people use flipaclip, Theres no blending modes, No clipping, You cant even change the opacity of layers, Also, No smudge tool or blur option, Also i think some more brushes would be nice but thats more of a personal preference, Idk how people do anything with flipaclip, I know its more accessible then alot of other animation programs, But procreate is fairly accessible (only on apple products and costs money, So thats why i didnt just say accessible) and it has a animation feature, Yes you are limited to only 200+ frames since thats the limit for layers and layers and frames are counted as the same thing, So you cant make a super long animation, But you can turn that into clips and put those clips together in an editing program like kinemaster, And for audio you can just add that in a editing program and mess around until it fits decently, I do understand that procreate isnt accessible for alot of people since iphones and ipads are more expensive then other tablets and phones, And even if somebody did buy a iphone/ipad for procreate, It still costs money (on iphone 5 dollars and on ipad 10), So i understand that some people might not want to pay that much, But if you are able to afford it, Then i would recommend it, Its definitely a step up from flipaclip, Its alot more complicated, I had some problems when trying to use procreate for the first time, And i didnt know how anything worked, Instead of using the add blend mode i used the light pen and light brush, Instead of using the multiply blend mode i just darkened the color of the area i was trying to shade, Instead of using the smudge tool i used blur, Most of my art ended up looking terrible because of me not understanding how procreate works, Instead of actually taking time to learn how it worked, I just saw somebody using it to make cool art, And i downloaded it without knowing anything about it, I just assumed that the app was what made the art good, And not the fact that the person had years of experience, And put hours of work into that drawing, I just thought 'Oh hey! Some people are making cool art with this app, Maybe that'll inprove my art skills' Instead of actually thinking about the fact that if you're skilled enough, You can make good art in any program, Somebody literally made a hyperrealistic santa in ms paint, I think the reason that i thought that its the program that made it good, Is because i was just relying on trial and error and youtube videos, I still am learning through that, But i think it was because of the people i was watching, Most of them werent really giving what was helpful art tips for what i was drawing at the time, Instead their content was mostly made for people with a decent understanding of what makes good art, Back then i was just drawing hot girls instead of actually learning what made good art, Also i didnt really set achievable goals for myself, Instead i just wanted to draw in that one semi realistic style, Whoever is reading this knows what im talking about, The style that one guy on tik tok has, And so many other artists have, The guy who just opens every video with 'WhAt I wIsH i KnEw BeFoRe GoInG pRo', He literally comes up everytime you search up anything related to procreate, No hate towards him, Hes probably a really cool guy, Im just saying that i wanted to have a art style similiar to his because 'ThE pEoPlE wHo DrAw In ThAt StYlE hAvE cOoL aRt So ThAt MeAnS iF i DrAw In ThAt StYlE iLl HaVe GoOd ArT' without taking into consideration that you can mix and match features from different styles instead of just sticking to one, Also, Instead of clicking on those videos that say they'll teach you the basics of art, I clicked on the ones with the cool looking thumbnail instead of any other video that could actually help, I found those videos that teach you the foundation of good art boring, When some of them are pretty interesting, For me its easier to just occasionally try out new things and see if they work through trial and error, But sometimes i dont wanna go through all the work of sketching out the drawing repeatedly until it looks close enough to what i want, And then do the lineart, And then start trying out new things to see what works and what doesnt, Just to find out that it doesnt even look decent at the end, No matter how hard i try to make it look good, Uhhh i probably made this way too long so heres a summary of what i just said, Use procreate instead of flipaclip if you can, And just put the clips and the audio together, Also trial and error is better then youtube videos until you get good enough at art that you can actually learn from those videos, Which the second half, The trial and error is better then youtube videos bit is unrelated and idk why i started talking about that

I used to have it and I conquered it . Step 1. Address the problem Step 2. Experiment with different body types Step 3. barrow techniques from other cartoons and put your own spin on them. In the Simpsons every character has giant eyes and an overbite so draw a character with giant eyes and an overbite, In the Flintstones I noticed all the men have big noses so try drawing a big nose. Watch a ton of cartoons you would never watch and borrow things from them.

Anime is the biggest offender of same face and same body syndrome, a lot of anime characters, girls in particular, have the same body shape just with a change in height and chest size, and so many anime girls have the same base for their face. I think the one thing you didn’t really touch on (you drew but don’t say much about it) is face shape, because I know from my experience I used to use the same exact face shape for every character and it did take me a while to break that habit

Most animes are, but some are really distinct in facial features. Michiko and Hatchin is really good, especially since it also covers diversity in ethnic ways as well. Just avoid shows that pander to weebs and you can generally find good examples of a less-appriciated art style actually having decent faces.

Sakareeh First, make a character design sheet. Heavily reference it so you understand the way the shapes curve, how sharp the facial features are and other shapes and figures. Soon you will be able to draw it without reference, and if you’re still not able to, keep trying! Switch things up a little, move out of your comfort zone! Good luck.

Just add a little "something" to their clothes. What I usually do to add pizazz to my clothing is things like tears or stitches/patches, ect. Sometimes it can be as simple as a cute design or something. Depending on who (or what) you want your character to be, give them clothing that reflects their personality. Give them a hoodie if they should be reclusive and introverted, or a tank top or something extravagant if they're outgoing. Idk, this is just some random advice from a girl on the interwebs. Hope this helped, though.

There were 2 DC comics characters that wore just towels around their bodies and around their hair. A lot of fans noted that, throughout the comic, they couldn't identify which character were which, because they looked exactly the same. Same body shape, exact same face. In contrast, TF2 and Overwatch did a really good job giving their characters different silhouettes. Nobody will look at Mei and Zarya and get them mixed up, no matter what they're wearing.

I think the reason why the female characters in some older Disney films look so different is because those films were stylized. A big issue I have with Disney is their lack of stylization. They used to be more daring with art direction and how their worlds looked, but now they seem to make all of their worlds (at least for princess movies) look the same. I agree that that is due to brand recognition. However, Disney is playing it safe: I respect studios more for taking big risks rather than creating vanilla or cookie-cutter aesthetics to guarantee more profit. Cartoon Network has fallen prey to this too; many of their current shows look very similar and resist interesting art choices. I grew up with Ed, Edd and Eddy, Teen Titans, and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. They all have distinct art styles. This isn't just an issue of today's animation industry; even earlier on we had Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo and PowerPuff Girls. To me, their art looked pretty similar. I don't know about back then, but I know that today, many of the people behind the shows on Cartoon Network worked on the same projects together, so perhaps they ended up being influenced by each others' work. I hope that animation networks (and other places with character art) recognize the value in choosing an interesting artistic look.

alexandra galici I agree, all CGI Disney/Pixar films sort of blur together visually. Could anyone tell a human extra from Finding Dory apart from the extras in Big Hero 6? There used to be so much more variety in art styles when Disney still did 2D movies. With that said, I think that there is still some variety in the faces... ....of the male characters. My big gripe with it is how Disney has a pretty big double standard for male and female characters, Hans, Kristoff, Flynn and Maui look nothing alike, yet Anna, Elsa, Rapunzel and Moana all have the same face with only slight modifications. As for the Disney Princess branding, there are a dozen things way more iconic than the face shape used to mark them as Disney Princesses, such as pastel ballgowns, animal friends and cutesy song numbers etcetera.

have you ever seen the concept art for elsa? especially when it was more early, less set in stone? it’s so expressive and beautiful imo, reminds me of something like the Emperor’s New Groove or Aladdin with how much personality they had. … and then of course the final product for elsa is a plastic doll fit for the merchapocalypse after the release.
@blondbraid7986
@blondbraid7986 6 жыл бұрын
alexandra galici Exactly! I thought Frozen looked ugly, not only do Anna/Elsa look like generic dolls, but there were several obvious animation mistakes as well as rather simple and unfinished looking aesthetics, such as their dresses looked like they were made from spandex with no wrinkles, and most of the snow looked more like melting rubber than real snow, and they turned trolls, fearsome creatures not to be trusted in Scandinavian folklore, and turned them into cutesy troll-dolls. Plus they reduced the Sami, an indigenous culture with a rich and complex history, and reduced them to uncultured slobs for the sake of laughs with Kristoffs character.

A youtuber I could think of is Learn2DrawManga. To me, a lot of her characters have the same expressions. Don't get me wrong, she's an amazing artists, but I just think she needs to put in a little more variety into the faces

For me, I've always associated "same face syndrome" as an introduction to "same character syndrome", because you might not notice characters having the same face if they have wildly different bodies, but have the same body and it doesn't matter what the face looks like- they look too similar. It all ties back to making your characters distinct from each other, which is a basic character development thing that I feel like your videos really help with, so thank you LavenderTowne!

Your artstyle is a very refreshing change from the majority of the art community on KZfaq! I know artists all have a genuinely unique style, but there are indefinitely trends that people follow in terms of cartoon work, and to see someone who exaggerates certain things and sort of branches away from too much added realism and has a very personal touch to certain details on their characters is nice to see, I hope a lot of young artists use you as an inspiration.

My problem is that all of my faces are different... My style is really complicated so when I draw the same character twice, it's extremely difficult to draw the same face twice.

Kyuuru Well,if it's a character,then your preference shouldn't make you not draw it,even if you don't like how they look,remember,no one looks perfect.

I try my best to make variety and even some character themes I normally don't like. Though I always end up making them " my preference" if I don't try my hardest to make something unique if this makes sense xD.

I'm glad I'm already doing one of the steps. For each instrument I play for my band (7), it's a different character. I decided I want to try and do drawings or comics for whenever I want to tell their stories a bit more because I don't have the time to get them all out in a song. So I've started drawing their faces on the one page and trying to give them different eyes, changing if I want there to be a nose or ears in their design. In real life they are based on me so I can't really differ their bodies too much other than defining the muscles on the stronger characters. But I can draw their faces differently. And their clothing and hair I'm also pretty confident they are different with each character because in videos I did want to make it look like they are different people, not just me dressed up in a different costume.

I am an art student and have done art now for a couple of years. And like you said yeah not just young artists as I also struggle with same face syndrome, mostly when I develop a new style I always struggle with it until I get a hang of it. So I like to watch this again and do the practices so I can fix up characters
