The amazing thing is even when Tadej is putting out huge power, he has ease and sometimes smile on his face. He is changing the perception of pro racing. He is also super friendly with his key rivals. Love this attitude. "Enjoy and rip the race apart while doing it".

“No gifts.” - Badger Bernard Hinault recently hosted Johan Bruyneel for The Move podcast, and Hinault talked about how he was driven by the love of smashing his rivals in bike races for fun. He sees this also in Tadej Pogacar, the boy king who enjoys world tour bicycle racing as some kind of video game. It’s fun for him! That’s the stuff that flows through the greatest champions…

Everyone was talking about how exciting the tour was going to be with the four major talents racing. But, we all know how one accident can change that . The degree of seriousness of vingegaard’s injury makes it doubtful he’ll win a third.

It makes me cringe every time I hear them pronounce Tadej’s name. Great commentary and then they say his name and it’s like getting static across a radio station or nails on a chalkboard

I think when Hinault and Merckx have both said they see elements of themselves in him and he's the real deal, then he certainly has a shot. A long way to go and of course and Vingegaard is nailing the TDF (let's hope his injury doesn't destroy him) but Pogačar is already on 2 and winning different types of Monuments and Classics etc. He could certainly get close, assuming he has another 7 or 8 good years left in him. He'd need to start doing more than one Grand Tour a year though, because otherwise he won't get close. Merckx is on 11 and Hinault on 10.

my problem with Phil and to some degree Bob is that they don't talk tactics and really break the race down the way that Max/GCN/Eurosprt commentators do.

and i think teejay is right about tadej not going for everything. breaks should be let up the road when the gc isn't up for play. its more interesting too

Facts also state that Eddy failed doping tests. Pogi never failed one despite more testing for more substances with better testing methods. Pogi is for me already better than Eddy.

I’m older like TJ and romanticize about the old days, the peloton patrons dictating who goes in the break, how long the procession lasts before the races begin and if the break stays away to the finish. Times change and we are in a new era of cycling where careers are shorter and it’s dog eat dog, time to adapt or move on to something else cause I guarantee you that old days are over, and whinging about the good old days ain’t bringing them back.

I understand what you are saying about Pogacar. He does need to improve tactically, and yes using other teams to his own advantage. Sometimes using other teams is part of it. Saving your team is another.

He was about to have an incredible team with Almeida, Ayuso and Vine(although that's not happening now) on top of having Yates, along with Wout initially not planning to do the TdF at all for Jonas. I still think he'll have a much better team than Roglic and should be the clear TdF favorite with Jonas' very unfortunate accident

It's easy to think Tadej is greedy if you aren't on his team. But if Total Energy or something keeps winning, I think they won't be complaining either. Cycling is changing. So things of traditional doesn't happen anymore. I enjoy watching the race won because they win it with their leg not because ooh, everyone is going to hate it because we won a lot. It's a similar comment when MVP won the cyclocross all the time. People said that maybe MVP should give the other rider to win.🙄. Besides, cycling isn't forever. The way I see it, he is just enjoying his time, while he can win. Because crash/injury or whatever can end their career at any time. Just see Bernal who is slowly going back. But he has lost 3 years in his career to climb back up.
@brentsoderbergcycling

I agree with Tejay. Tadej should tactically use some other teams own interests against them and save his team a little, but maybe he is just trying to maximize training in these shorter stages.

Everybody says merckx is the best, i understand that but dont forget that it is much more competetive now then back in the days + maybe Merckx found something to use what the others didnt. Cycling is much more fair now and the gaps are closer. Merckx is the benchmark someone has to be the benchmark but in my opinion what MVDP and Tadej are doing is on the same or a higher level then Merckx. Sorry Belgische vrienden!

Simple answer on the titel... NO he isn''t about to become the greatest ever. He does have three world titels, twelve more Grand Tours , ten more monuments and about 500 more victories to score before he can claim that title.... Merckx and others are still lightyears ahead.... And yes those guys did maybe dope, but that's what the current kids also do... Or does nobody ever ask questions why the CEO of UAE is one of the most doped riders ever in the peloton ? Mauro Gianetti used EPO himself, and then became DS at Saunier Duval, and we all remember how that did go.... Cobo Acebo, Piepoli and Ricardo Rico are just three examples of the great rders he produced.... Wonder, wonder how does it come that Pogacar does win so much ?? Same story for MVDP of course, who makes no secret of it to be huge friends with the entire Cecchini family.. The dumb kid is even posting photos on his socials together with the son and grandkids of the famous doping Dr. Cecchine... Not by cocincidence Dr. Cecchini has a very nice signed World Championship jersey of MVDP hanging in his office in Luca.... (Yes, that same Luca where Mathieu always goes to train on the MTB.) Thus no I do not have the illusion that any of the big names does not dope... Which brings us back to the statement in the title.... And my answer on that is just a simple no... Not now and not in the future, he doesn't race enough races for that...

TD that's old school while roid oldies were trying to beat the youth. Now that youth are arising every year, don't wait to win. Win every race, every time you can, because youth are arising far faster than the days of roids.

@stephencurry8552 Jonas definitely had the better team last year. Although he was so good that he would have won with a very average team. The year before is a totally different story though. And we have no idea how big of a factor Tadej's broken wrist had on the TdF
