There was a time when the US was economically, militarily and socially, extremely strong and could project and maintain its hegemony over all others, especially when they were all suffering from the devastation of WW2. Today, amongst others, Russia & China have recovered and become strong economically, militarily and socially, while the US has lost its strengths, to a point where it is no longer admired nor feared and can no longer maintain its dominance. The US can only try its best to slow down its own decline and even get some of its vessels to share in its burden, while at the same time, try to contain the rise of both Russia and China, using whatever means available, both ethical and unethical..

These experts are much better and factual than most in the West and Taiwan. But even they missed the real point: CCP/PRC has 3 red lines 1) Taiwan independence Formally Or Too Obvious like Joining UN. 2) Foreign Military in Taiwan. Selling weapons and training are in gray-zone. 3) Taiwan becomes uncontrollably chaos like Hong Kong. The 1 and 2 are getting more likely so PLA is Preparing the WAR. But CCP's number 1 priority is beating US in technology, manufacturing, economic and diplomatic areas. So Xi would not move on Taiwan unless 1) Taiwan moves to independence, 2) US moves to Taiwan like Ukraine joining NATO, 3) PRC passes US as Number One Power.
