Don't get the people thinking Stellantis knows how to make a good engine just because yours didn't break. First year engine from a crap company... yeah that is a poor mans bet. The turbo alone will ensure it doesn't last to 2-300k miles like a good NA engine will. I wish Stellantis could make a decent Jeep engine, but they haven't and Jeep hasn't made a decent engine since the old AMC 4.0 that they didn't even develop it. I love Jeep and my Wrangler, but I hate Stellantis and Chrysler for what they've done to Jeep. Rugged and reliable turned into cheaper than Chinese quality with lots of garbage bling. Luxury vehicles my butt. What is luxurious about being stuck on the side of the road. EDIT: The engine is an Alpha-romeo engine and has been around since 2016 and that is great news. This is what Motor reviewer.com has to say about it: "The longevity pledge for the 2.0 GME Hurricane engines, no matter how hackneyed it sounds, is frequent oil changes and premium gas only. With proper maintenance, this 2.0L Turbo-four engine is capable of lasting up to 150k miles without major problems." That is a much better than Stellantis building something from scratch and tossing it in. Maybe I can finally get that 4dr Rubicon I've been waiting on.

I bought my wife a JL Sahara w/this 2.0 turbo 48v mild hybrid last fall and she LOVES it.!!! She preferred this engine in test drives over the 3.6L v6. The 2.0 is punchy!! I was nervous about a 4cyl, but not any more. Nothing but great reviews on this engine in the industry. @@scottleggejr The Pentastar engine was a mistake from the beginning. It did okay for what it was, but it was never designed for a Wrangler. I hope this guy's buddy isn't a Stellantis dope and they decided to start making a good product again. If it is just another Stellantis engine than it will be hot garbage. But maybe someone has finally got serious about the brand maybe we have some hope. I have had a 2020 4 door Jeep Wrangler 2.0L. It has plenty of power. I live in the NYC area, to merge on some of these roads you need a vehicle with good acceleration. This motor has that. I goto the Adirondack mountains regularly and going up and down the mountains from i87 to Lake Placid NY. This motor works well even in high elevations. I have stock 31.5 tires and get on a flat highway 28 to 31 mpg going 70mph. Even when going thru hills, still averages 24 mpg.

I’m to 39k miles in my Cherokee with the 2.0T and it’s been great. No complaints and I’ve gotten great gas mileage. I can get 30+ on the highway easily and I have Falken Wildpeak A/T Trails which are so much better than the stock Firestone tires. One thing I love even though my Cherokee is just a Latitude LUX is the fact that you don’t have to rev the daylights out of it just to off roading it just goes right over an obstacle with minimal throttle.

2020 Sahara, 2.0 eTorque. I'm averaging 21 to 23 with up to 26 on 2 lane 55 mph highway. The mileage drops after 70 mph. Have 72,000 on the odometer and the only engine issue was an expired 12 v battery. It pulled my 1200 lb fishing boat a considerable distance at 65 to 70 and the mileage dropped to a still solid 19. I rarely use the start/stop mode. My goal for the vehicle is to drive it 150 to 200 thousand miles like I got out of my 2014 Wrangler. Perfect engine for a jeep as long as the power curve is moderated. When your in a situation on steep rocks in 4 wheel low don't want a bunch of torque hitting suddenly from a turbocharger spooling up. The one advantage is as you go up to high altitude don't lose a bunch of power like the older 3.8 and 3.6 with 37-40 inch tires needed all the power could get. I live in Arizona we have mountains that go to 6-10k feet high. I would never buy a ecodiesel for one thing the power band is way too short with turbo lag. The emissions are a hassle to deal with all those sensors IMO the small 2.0 gas turbo gets the power of a diesel without the hassle of emissions.

I wonder how reliable all those electronics will be after bouncing around the desert and climbing steep rock trails like I do here in Arizona. I'm not against hybrid technology it does a great job of filling in the power curve almost making it flat when your 42 miles down a trail that took you 6 hours to get to last thing I want is some complicated mess to troubleshoot.

Never had a single issue out of any of the Wranglers I’ve owned and this 2020 Rubicon Recon with the 2.0L turbo is no different. Oh be put 29,500 miles on it and I’m averaging 20-21mpg in local driving and highway mileage drops some to 18-19mpg depending on speed. From what I've seen, option for option, the 4xe is basically the same price as a non-hybrid. Once you factor in any government incentives it ends up cheaper. In Canada this is true at least. I just bought a 3.6 Sahara and sticker price was within $1.5k of a 4xe with basically the same stuff, plus 20 inch wheels. Factor in the incentive of $2.5k from the government and the 4xe becomes cheaper.

Just one thing bothering me, the cooling system is overly complex with an additional coolant pump on the passenger side next to the transmission that is totally plastic, and electrically driven. Over time I plan to uncomplicate that! The oil is easy to change without removing skid plates etc. I do wish the air filter cover was a snap down design rather than 8mm screws into plastic that are just asking to become stripped over time.

I don't really have a problem with it having 2 less cylinders, or having a turbo. The problem is that it's GDI. That almost guarantees issues down the line. Couple that with the fact that it's relatively new, and I'm not sure about long-term reliability. The 3.6 V6, for all it's faults, at least has been around for a long time and is in a a lot of vehicles. Otherwise, the 2.0 is a fantastic engine if you plan on getting rid of the vehicle after 6 years or so.

I don't know the difficulty of removing this particular intake manifold, but on other makes, media blasting the intake valves free of carbon is SIMPLE and relatively inexpensive.
@channell11
@channell11 Жыл бұрын
It's been used in Alfa Romeos since 2016, pretty good record thus far. I've been using CRC's GDI cleaner every oil change-hopefully that will help keep the carbon deposits at bay. So far these engines don't appear particularly problematic when it comes to carbon buildup.

Did no one notice the Peugeot 505 at 4:10 ? Pretty rare sight these days. Edit: Just finished the video and I know I'm late to the party, but do want to say that yes, this engine is pretty decent. However, it's a highly complicated engine and is much more sensitive to abuse than the 3.6 would be. So to all owners, be warned, use premium fuel and high quality oil. Also check the oil level at least every few months as they do tend to use a bit of oil and running them low is a disaster.

I own a 2020 Wrangler with the 2.0.... The ESS has given me hell and I have been through two battery swaps (one under warranty and one not). I just got it out of the stealership for the ESS light coming on again and thats where the second battery swap (both batteries) happened. It just came on again for the third time. I may bypass the ESS because I dont use it anyway. The lift struts gave out within a year and the visor clips broke within two years otherwise its been a good vehicle. Manufacture date according to the door placard is May 2020 during the shutdown. Due to skeleton crews back then I can only guess the finance guys installed the ESS system.

The ESS is by far the worst fucking feature. I wanna install a bypass but was worried about the same issue with the battery. I've just conditioned myself to turn the thing off as soon as I enter the car.

I have a 2019 cherokee overland with the 2.0 turbo engine in it and it has 82000 miles on it. The engine is blown and I have to find one to replace it. The Jeep dealer wants $13000 to replace the engine. I've seen online lots of bad reviews of this engine.

It’s an Alfa design based on the one that’s in the Giulia. It has been a pretty darn good engine for them. Wouldn’t pick it over the simpler and older, more proven 3.6 but it would not be a deal breaker for me to get the 2L.

True, reason is that when this engine was designed for the Alfa Giulia, a manual was never in the plans due to emission standards, coupled with the reduced demand for manuals in Europe. When Jeep adapted the engine for the Wrangler, cost benefits analysis probably showed it wasn't worth it... Sensible manufacturers these days..

The 2.0 with a turbo performs well but…….the internet is filled with turbo maintenance issues. In spite of what the manufacturer says premium gas is a must. Frequent oil changes are also a must. The entire auto industry is headed towards 4 cylinder engines with turbos, so eventually that combination will be the norm.

2.0L T is the only Wrangler for European export. It has plenty of power - don't believe anyone who claims V6 is more reliable. 2.0L is stronger, quieter, and a lot more fuel efficient (improves the range), it's also better at elevation, but it's a bit too explosive for rock crawling or towing - V6 as a truck engine is better in this regard. Unfortunately, the v6 with 8-speed auto comes with their disgusting eTorque system, that causes nothing but trouble (especially during cold season). My ESS on 2L turbo works smoothly, and cost-wise replacing a starter after 60K miles is nothing compared to dealing with the eTorque problems.
