Two totally different riding styles. I would say test both and see which ones is more comfortable for you. I love my SV for long rides but cruisers are a totally different type of ride. Yes it does ok on the track - makes you learn the brake and corner if you want to keep up with other better accelerating bikes. Peg clearance can be a challenge. Well worth putting better tyres on them - OEM rubber is ok but better rubber makes a big difference, especially in the wet

This is coming a year after but I'll say anyway. I have a 2017 VStrom 650. I put braided ss line s on front for bar risers. My front brakes are much stronger as a result. I have abs and would recommend good braided lines for everyday street use. If you are going to the track that's a whole different story.

nice video. Brakes were upgraded on the SV for 2019. I posted already elsewhere that the MRA windshield works great on this bike. Much better wind flow and greater stability at higher speeds. Good quality product, no rattling or vibration Definitely a decent bike for longer trips. I do agree that the stock saddle isnt great. Is the tuck and roll that much better for over $300? It is only 5 mm thicker? thanks!!

To be honest it’s good but not night and day lol I prefer it over stock for sure but personally I like the look better than aftermarket seats so that’s why I went with the tuck and roll. But it’s noticeable when you get on for sure.

@SmokinMonkeyOG
@SmokinMonkeyOG 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It would depend on what bar end mirrors you get and how they mount up. I got cheap Amazon mirrors but they’re actually billet aluminum so I got lucky I guess. They’re solid! I basically removed the weights it came with and used the internals of my bar ends (just the small clamping mechanism). Not sure it will work on all mirrors. You will have to pick em up and see once you have them so you can take them apart and play around.

I had some trip with my sv and is not bad at all. Of course it is not a touring bike and if you drive on the highway for a long time your neck will hurt. I have a Puig windshield but driving at 130/140 km/m doesn't make much difference. But if you drive on the country roads you will enjoy your trip. I use to have a tank bag and two soft side bags to fix under the passenger seat, I definitely don't like the top box, it looks really bad on this bike.

I had mine for 14 months and 15000km - it is great for day and overnight trips. It is comfortable, you can throw a Kreiger bag or two on the tail easily, the light is ok (better putting a higher output bulb in), it handles adequately, has good fuel economy and has adequate performance. It does have suspension that is a bit soft, but it is comfortable. I ride an s1000r which is quicker and handles better, but it is not as comfortable nor does it have anywhere near as good as fuel economy so time between fills is not as good. On balance I would prefer the BM (mainly because you can punch around other vehicles easier and the handling is much better) but the Suzuki was still highly competent.

@@delwilliams9042 I still have the stock unit, but I'll measure the clearance tonight and get back to you.
@logain13
@logain13 4 жыл бұрын
@@delwilliams9042 I checked and there is very little clearance. If your tail tidy moved your indicators down at all, then there is some clearance for them to move toward the front of the bike. If they stay at the same height as stock, then there's no room to move forward. Side to side, the indicators stick out past the inside of the bags by about an inch. The back side of the bags slopes up from the bottom, so that's why moving the indicators downward would give more room to move them forward as well.

No problem man! Thanks for the support! It’s the Nelson Riggs Commuter Lite Tailbag. I believe they’re both the same bag from what I can tell but the sport version has buckles for easy removal but then you still have the straps there under your seat lol and it’s $150 vs $100 that I paid for mine. Both are great but I picked the commuter for the price since it’s the same bag just different straps.

Better for comfort on long rides for a budget, and lighter for better cornering- the Kawasaki Versys 650 and the Yamaha Tracer 900 and 900GT. For an even tighter budget, my 2008 Kawasaki ZZR600 rides very smooth, however if your legs are long enough it helps to add a better seat with more padding- the full fairing adds more comfort for long trips and in the rain, with just a little more work to change the engine oil and oil filter.

I was told by someone I can’t remember where, that the brakes are kind of weak by design using weak pads. This is to help new riders not kill themselves if they hit the brakes too hard. I’m the same height and I’ve never had an issue while riding from my legs being uncomfortable but everyone is different. Wondering if you have ever adjusted rear preload...or thought about it? I'm 230 lbs. and so far haven't messed with factory setting. Only notice it dips slightly excessively very occasionally on more severe uneven road surfaces. There's a fun roller coaster type road near me and if I push it the rear shock seems to have a little trouble keeping up...with my weight. Thought I'd try one more click to stiffen it up a little. @@MisterSuki I know it's 3 years later, and you've probably already upgraded the bike, but the answer to that should be YES, you should try the rear preload. I've a different bike, so don't know exactly what the SV manual says, but usually the manufacturers prepare it for an avg size of 70-80 kg, not a for 30 more, like you are. So if you haven't already, whatever bike you had, check the manual and see how many clicks right they recommend for bigger riders or riders with luggage. I've played with mine and it's a big difference.. even if you don't have more settings, changing as small as the preload and the tire pressure should help you a lot.

Don't buy a top case if you don't need a place to put your laptop, try a duffle bag or saddle bag because it will be more efficient. By the way, buying an adjustable lever and braided brake hose is a better choice. Lastly, it would be better to have a tank bag to store our valuables because our tail bags could be lost or fell out of sight.

I find once you’re moving the suspension settles and you can move back and forth on the seat to get the most comfortable position. However it’s a sport bike so it’s not made for comfort or long trips. Not to say you can’t do long trips. I bought the tuck and roll seat from the SV650x and it’s like $200 and 1” thicker than the stock SV one. That helps a lot too

If you respect the machine and don’t try to ‘see what it can do’ right away. Just take it easy and learn the bike before you go all out. It’s got a lot of power but can be a great bike to grow with as you learn. And it will bring you joy years later since you won’t need to upgrade right away. Even experienced riders love the SV because it’s so nice to ride with great power delivery. I would say get it if you think you can be responsible with the bike otherwise you can get yourself into a lot of problems. Hope this helps man good luck on the next bike purchase!

A few hundred miles for gas? No way. I have a 2018, and you might get half that (and that’s pushing it). I’d say stop for gas every 120 miles to be safe.

Whats your fuel consumption?
@SmokinMonkeyOG
@SmokinMonkeyOG 4 жыл бұрын
Can’t say how much I get on highway or constant cruising because we always fill up before we run out on those trips but out of half a tank I can get 200km just constant cruising at 100km/h. In the city usually 300km per tank with a few litres left to spare when I fill up ( last bar is gone now just fuel light flashing).

@SmokinMonkeyOG

I’m 6 foot 1 and it’s great for myself. Height is good and position of the foot rests are good too. Also you get to sit up straight and still reach the handlebars with ease so you don’t strain yourself while riding it’s actually very relaxing to ride when you want to take it easy. And it’s fast! If you look up the stats it does 0-60 in 2.8 seconds lol.

@@thomaswinterburn6680 also check out the Yamaha SCR 950 V-twin. It is known for being good for taller and bigger riders, the opposite of the Bolt. The power is not too much for a beginner, however it does weigh more than an SV-650. Check out the motorcycle videos by FortNine for tires and gear, and he has a very good video for the Yamaha SCR 950.

@@SmokinMonkeyOG I have an 02 R6 that was a project bike bought back to life - low miles. I was thinking about getting a 650 because it's more upright. I really didn't want to change the R6 handle bars but it is an option. My R6 is peppy. OMG.
@SmokinMonkeyOG
@SmokinMonkeyOG 2 жыл бұрын
I love the r6 but I personally can’t sit on one in the stock riding position for too long. I have lower back problems so that’s the main reason I went with the SV650. Seating position is like sitting in a chair. No lean unless you want to tuck in. But I’ve been wanting to throw clip on bars on mine for soo long lol I love the tucked in riding position but I can’t do it for long. Might pick up a second bike to have the best of both worlds
