I purchased the $700 Dyson V15 Detect cordless vacuum to test and review (so not sponsored in any way), to see if it's actually worth that premium price tag! After varying real-world tests, I admit it has very impressive cleaning power and features, I love the green-laser, charging dock, multi-tools, and a lot more - however there are some major cons I found!

We purchased a Dyson a few years ago, which worked very well. After a few years use, it developed a couple of issues. When I contacted Dyson, they serviced it at minimal cost - basically replacing many worn parts with new ones ie rebuilding it, and shipped it back to us, with the option of getting a substantial discount off a new one. It's still going strong! In this day and age of throw-away disposable consumer goods, for a company to do this with their products is awesome! Make a good product, and stand by it.

According to Dyson, it's almost never recommend to use the 'Boost' mode unless it's for large spills or something (it's not worth the battery penalty). Also, the rationale for the trigger is longer battery life as people won't leave the vacuum on any longer than necessary.
@christermad
@christermad 3 жыл бұрын
Agree. It shouldn't be running when you don't move it. Like for instance when moving furniture etc. Keeping it down all the time greatly reduces battery life and is not necessary because it is EASILY pressed down without noticing. I don't get people crying out for a on off button, that would be incredibly irritating to move hands to turn off and on. Totally would defeat the ease of use and rapid on off motor which allows the long battery life. I have V11 AbsolutePro and get over an hour battery life on eco, which does amazing on hard floors and even my carpets, i NEVER put it on boost unless there is sand under a pair of shoes for example.
@blackice7408
@blackice7408 2 жыл бұрын
@@christermad right? It sounds like a petty thing to complain about - unless your fingers are made of silk. The button is very light to tug on, and u don't need to grip it hard. @ethelryan257

the battery life on dysons is actually one of the best in the business. vacuums take a ton of power to run and dyson vacuums are some of the strongest on the market (you can tell by how much it picks up that your roomba missed) that strength comes at the cost of battery life which could be longer but it would add weight and make the vacuum clunky and hard to use. with these limitations in mind, dyson does a great job of maximizing the battery life without making any compromises on performance. you can always just swap out the battery part way through if it’s really an issue.

Just got mine the other day. V7 animal was my current one, I cleaned a 10x7 rug a few passes with the v7 then did a few passes on the v15 both highest settings and the v15 picked up so much little dust particles, I was super amazed. If you have larger opening at the front, its good for large debris pickup but compromises deep cleaning of fine particle, and having those gates shut which is gives you the option to do, will redress that balance, but that's why the fluffy exists, although tbh, I have never, ever had to pick up cereal sized spills. You would sooner use the wand to collect them all in practice.

I wonder if the unit could benefit from a sort of "bow" -- like a ship's wedge-shaped bow -- at the front, in between the two 'gates'. The thinking being that as you were pushing the unit forward to vacuum up the beans in the shape of the "700", that a 'bow' would direct the beans towards the gates, potentially negating the need for an extra pass or two. It looked like you had to do another pass in order to pick up the beans that were just being pushed along without any effect.

Very good video. Very helpful. BTW the additional particles you pick up on the carpet could very well be the carpet itself. Meaning that the dyson is probably "eating" the carpet and not actually picking up additional "useful" particles. Does it pick up much more particles on hard floors than the robots? I am quite curious.

I honestly don’t understand the appeal of robot vac’s. Just simply based upon physics, they are not big enough physically to contain a big enough motor that can be effective on carpet. And that’s just the motor, design and seal against the floor are other ones. Robot vacs only seem to be good enough for bigger stuff like crumbs but even on hard wood floors, my iRobot struggled a lot. I didn’t realize how much my robot vaccs were missing until I got the V15. Dyson’s are worth the price. Great review 👍🏽.

It has a hepa filter that's so dense and advanced, it can filter dirt down to the size of 0.1 microns vs 0.3 microns like all of the dyson stik vacs with hepa purple colored filters including the regular v15, uprights, and canisters - even the ones with cinetic filtration. And fun fact the cv is just a bit bigger than 0.1 microns. So that's something that I'm looking forward to purchasing 1 day. Also the crevice tool is built in and it has some more cool features all for $750US

@@Clove_Parma makes sense. But the v15 is rated at 230 air watts on max suction which is barely more than the outsize in its max setting (which u should only be using for short heavy duty moments in life). But im sure there's a sensor within the vac that will make sure that the air flow stays stable and the same and will compensate with more current to the small motor. Also u dont need 230 air watts of suction power to clean your floors and carpets well. 23 or the medium 45 air watts is perfect. I'd still take it considering it has very stellar filtration and some of its new features look useful

I had my doubts when I purchased my V15 at full retail price (plus an extended 5-year warranty), but having the convenience of switching to a well-engineered cordless design really makes it feel like less of a chore to do regular vacuuming. The performance is quite impressive. The battery on auto mode is sufficient enough to thoroughly clean my 1,200 square foot carpeted home with ease (including stairs), with a remaining 5-8 minutes of headroom. It felt crazy at first trying to rationalize spending so much money on a vacuum, but now my floors are as clean as they have ever been. So I’d say it’s worth the investment.

Quality video. I don't know anyone who trusts a robovac to clean effectively. Maybe if we could find a room cleaned with a decent cleaner first, then test the V15 there.

It’s excellent but too heavy compared to the V10 absolute. The heavy suction makes it’s much harder to push along the carpet. If you have lino or hard floors get the V10 absolute as it’ll do the same job easily, but if you have carpet & animals then get this heavy duty bad boy.

The laser isn't on the standard head because it's made for hard floors. The laser sits 0.7mm off the ground to highlight anything sitting on the ground. It just simply wouldn't work on carpet.

Yeah the feather touch trigger is NECESSARY to achieve long battery life and not running the motor when moving furniture etc. Also, it is HIGHLY unusual to have wall to wall carpets. That trend was over when we got into the new millennium here in Europe... Apparently america is old school. On hard floors the Dyson doesn't need much suction to get a perfect result, and a carpet here and there under a table etc doesn't reduce battery life like a wall to wall carpet would. But again, since it's not normal in Europe I guess they predicted 80 percent hard floor vacuuming and the remaining 20 percent carpeted floors with higher suction would not drain the battery as noticably as in your case...

I've had the Dyson V10 Animal since March of 2018 for $700 I believe.. it's worked great. Battery on medium will clean my whole house 1000sqft 15-20minutes.. but if I vacuum my 14x12 rug in the living room on boost it won't last long, maybe 8-10 minutes. It definitely picks up good. The only other thing is the filter on the back is annoying to clean.

I have V10 and so I can see they still don't fix how messy the snap open motion is, all the dust flying out and we gotta prepare a bit for it. I see many brands already start making a station to help suck out all dust from the Tank. Dyson should solve this issue now.

We have a ball from 2011 and 2020! We use both interchangabely because different parts have broken over time. We’re fixing them next week with some new parts, but they still work really well! I will say that the dyson ball cinetic (our 2011) is much more of a pain to clean anything on. The filters are inaccessible, which sucks, but they have made improvements as far as things like that go in the past decade

Just wanted to make people aware that I recently bought the V15 Detect Absolute and the stated battery time of 60 minutes is an approximation for Eco mode only. The Auto (medium) setting gives battery life of just over 36 minutes with any tool not requiring power and about 7 minutes in Turbo mode. I bought an additional battery and both give the same results when fully charged. I also confirmed these times by speaking direct to Dyson customer services today 30/12/21

With this in mind, do you think the V15 Detect Absolute is still worth its price? Trying to decide if it's worth getting for a 1300 sq ft home with wood flooring and the occasional floor rug. Or if I should get the V10 or V8 instead.

I have had a Dyson Animal Canister for several years. The first canister I have ever had and in general do not like it. It has good suction and I like the self winding cord. What I do not like is it has no light and the pet hair gets wound in the brush. It was supposed to be for picking up pet hair. Plus the handle broke after a few years due to lifting it constantly. I am thinking of a cordless like this one, but I am glad I watched your video because I didn't know the main brush attachment had no light, I am disappointed to find that you have to hold the power button the entire time and I am not happy with the short battery life. Not sure if it is worth the $$ due to Dyson not going the extra mile to make this vacuum better.

@Jojo Moa I got the rowenta air force and that one is pretty good. can vacuum decently the whole house. Dutch common houses aren't big as usually in America so for me it's sufficient. on eco it's good enough for hard floors and boost for flat fabric services and thick carpet the turbo. if I switch between the eco and boost it's good enough for several rounds of entire house.
