Is the All-New Land Cruiser worth the HYPE?

I've seen a lot of praise surrounding the all-new 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser so when my friends at Manhattan Beach Toyota told me they just got one... I had to see it for myself.
Keep in mind I'm far from a "car guy". Let me know your thoughts on the new Land Cruiser.

the tag on the mudflap is to keep the flap from hitting the tire in reverse. Larger fuel door is for Asian and European model who have a diesel model and need the def spout as well.

The local dealership here sold their first one that had about 3K in addons + 10K over asking. Sold same day they made it available.

I’ve seen some dealers with the markup, some without. Shop around. I will not pay a dealer markup at all.

Put a deposit on one at MSRP, already have the VIN, just waiting on a ride across the salt.

A nice styling exercise. My last visit to Newport Beach, the car rental was running short, so I got a bright red Four Runner with license plates from my former town in Wyoming next to Yellowstone Park (Wyo. plates have county numbers). It was fun being from there, again.

I loved my FJ cruiser when I had it. I own a Tundra 1794 hybrid and for the cost it's much better than the overpriced land cruiser

Too expensive, too many electronic nannies, too many annoying beeping sounds, doesn't have a 3rd row seat, and I don't want a turbo hybrid. Otherwise, I love it!

Its not a Hybrid made for economy. Its made for power. It's why it has 465lbft of torque.

Strap keeps mudflap from getting caught under tire. There are dealers offering “just” $5k over Msrp for first edition. At least in nor cal

At 74k why don’t you just go buy a Lexus GX 550 Overtrail that starts at 69k and save some money, also you can tell Toyota messed up big time with the pricing when you can buy the Lexus version for cheaper then the Toyota version of the same vehicle

Toyota didn't mess up anything. If you want a Land Cruiser you want a Land Cruiser. If you want a GX you want a GX if you can't afford something you won't get it. The First Editions are for the people who want a Land Cruiser with a limited run.

The problem is what happens after the first model year? my money is on a trim that replaces the first edition that is extremely similar in price/options and that doesn’t fix the mid grade with the premium package being 65k which again you might as well spend the few thousand extra and get the brand prestige of buy a Lexus. The value is just not there I love the look but it just doesn’t make any sense for what you are getting compared to other off road vehicles for around the same price

@@crushbaseball4270 I hear what you are saying. Once again.... You will either want the Land Cruiser or GX Let's say after the First Editions are gone 5000 copies sold. And they streamline their builds to only 2 models and no other special editions. I would love the GX OT but at the rate it's going I would get one maybe by the end of the year. I had a chance to get a Land Cruiser First Edition so I got it ordered. I might get a GX to replace my 2023 Sequoia in a couple of years. Time will tell

@@davidhouston7812don’t think you did bad. I’ve seen them both this week in person. I was a fan of the GX but something about the LC screwed more manly to me…. I feel a lot of women and older ladies will be driving the GX and in some ways feels more girly.. I never was a fan of this new Lac as I have a 200. But after seeing it I’m asking them to try and get me one when some people cancel because of pricing

@@ssing7113 I am still trying to see both in person, still no luck. But I can see a lot of women in the GX especially the none OT versions. I found out today my LC first edition is being built. So hopefully I will get it in a month or so

The first edition trim does not make any sense at ~$7k more than a GX overtrail. The basic “Land Cruiser” trim and even 1958 are growing on me a little, I think I like the LC styling better than 6th gen 4Runner and maybe even than the GX.

I’ve always been a Toyota man. They make reliable vehicles. But ever since I got the FJ in 2007, been waiting patiently for Toyota to make their vehicles more versatile - like removable top and doors. They’ve let me down. This thing looks wimpy! No way I’m going 4 cylinders on a utility vehicle.Went out and risked buying a new Ford Bronco. Nice as hell machine. Just hope it gets near the reliability as a Toyota.

Unfortunately not $74,000. MB Toyota asking for an additional 10,000 to $15,000 over MSRP.

Agreed at that price even before dealer markups it’s way too expensive for what you’re actually getting. I know before all the craziness I have my JL wrangler that I got in 2018 new for 65k out the door and it’s if fully loaded Sahara unlimited V6 with every option possible and the dealer installed a fox shocks 2 inch lift kit and 35 inch tires and new rims.Which is what I keep comparing the Land Cruiser to and I think really the launch edition should be at most 60k for what it has on it to start to make sense

Current Prado is more or less in that range unfortunately. It has always been quite expensive to be honest. Always thought it was overpriced but at least this one is less overpriced than the current model in our market

If your are looking for an off-roader with the occasional need to drive around town, the jeep may be great. They are not comfortable daily drivers though. Cool? Yes. Not a desirable daily. I’m waiting for a test drive in the LC. Would expect it to be superior to a Jeep for a daily. Add to that the reliability, and it would absolutely be the choice.

@@jasonostack9319 I have a Wrangler Unlimited with 392 Hemi and Skytop. Great car for sure but I’m getting about 13.5mpg. Pretty sure I will be moving into a FE LC. Probably a better choice for a daily.

Great looking LC...BUT is overpriced due to ADM..i think toyota make mistake with Letting dealers adm..doesnt create long term repeat buyers

This new LC looks toylike, like an old FJ? My guess is that's the idea; Toyota's going old-skool. They're also trying to differentiate from the rest of the lineup, incl. 4Runner, Sequoia, Highlander, and Rav4. Cool that it's a hybrid. (Yes, I'm a car-girl.) So, Brad, as a Toyota-guy yourself, would you trade your 4Runner for this? It doesn't look long enough for a longboard, unless the rear window opens. Not sure the market or purpose for the LC vs the others, other than the legendary name.
