A guy in my city has a female Boerboel. She's one of the sweetest dogs I've ever known, happy to cuddle with anyone who knows her name - which is Tequila, which I find absolutely adorable - but I witnessed what she is capable of. She loves all kids and goes crazy over them. I was talking with her owner when a child suddenly started screaming, it was clearly throwing a tantrum over something, stomping and screaming. The (probably) father grabbed her by the arm and she screamed even louder, yanking away... Tequila literally jumped for that man, her owner flying down after the leash. She tackled that man, stood on him and foamed on his face, growling like a freaking demon. Fortunately, she reacted immediately to being called back. Her owner got in some trouble for it, but it ended without a lawsuit and noone was hurt. They did take Tequila away for a week for a behavior test, but she was returned. Honestly though, I almost shat my pants seeing that.

@@sfcarp9418 I know... The good thing is, she's well trained and doesn't react to other things. When I saw her on that guy, I thought she was going to rip his face off, but other than growling, she did nothing. I wonder how it would've ended if she witnessed more than that, e.g. someone actually hitting a kid. Probably much worse...

Sounds like a well trained Boerie. They're used in places like South Africa for protection of property especially farms and plots outside of town etc Mastiffs are good protection dogs mostly because of their size and intimidation factor. Don't mess with a boerie.🇿🇦😁

I owned one for almost 11 years. Was our first dog,a beautyfull female. She was huge,built like a tank,bigger than 95% of male boerboels... She was almost 30" at the withers and around 200lbs,without being fat...you could still count her ribs. She was so incredibly sweet and loyal. Never problems with other people or other dogs ...until our son was born. Our dog was 5 at that time...she was very protective from day one,but in a very nice,calm sweet way. And than we ran in to the neighbourhoods agressive huge pitbull... He would fight every dog in the area...and always tried to get into a fight with our dog,but she just ignored him. Until that day,the first time they met after our son was born.... All hell broke loose...out of nowhere she jumped him...he landed on his back...all 4legs up in the air,screaming like a pig being castrated,just like his owner who was pulling his line,but that 200lbs did not move an inch...the roar she produced scared me i thougt she would rip him apart,but she just dominated him for 30seconds,stept up and walked away like nothing hapenned. She never ever did this to any dog or even cats...but she just let that pitt know...hey i have a new member in my pack...and i will protect him with my life....we never crossed paths again. We lost her 3months ago...miss her so much. Especially my boy...he had her for almost 6years as a big cuddly toy. Warm greetings from the Netherlands.

The boerboel is an absolute unit. From having one in our family he was amazing with children and all of the cousins and family members that came over to visit as well as welcomed guest. My uncle socialized him and never stopped training him he told me with Cody consistency was key. The dog was massive yet he was a snuggle bug, he wanted to be super close at all times and had amazing patience when playing with children. When walking him he could easily take off/break free even from my uncle and he is a big man but Cody didn't even when provoked. He would check in with my uncle had amazing eye contact when training but as I said my uncle told me it takes consistency in training.

Ek oorweeg om nog n GS te kry.. maar hulle is nogal moeilik om in toom te hou. My GS is geneig om baie geniepsig te wees teenoor pluimvee en beeste se kalwers.. moet maar baie dophou. Boerboel is the most beautiful breed of extra large dogs in my opinion. Mine was stubborn during training initially, but I kept at it until he learned the commands and followed them. I could leave the gate open and he wouldn’t walk out unless I singled him to do so. Anyone looking to get one of these needs a huge yard. Thankfully I have 4.5 acres for him to roam around. Not usually a high prey drive, but my Boerboel perfected hunting and killing squirrels.

Same things are valid for boeries, maybe that percentage is lesser, but every single thing he says is correct. Boeries may be somewhat more gentle in nature compared to cane corso. But everything depends on the individual owner as well as the dog.

Most South Africans I know of (I'm South African) that have boerboels, are farmers. They are by no means fit for the suburban lifestyle. They're also extremely massive dogs. My uncle who is a farmer has had several. As a kid, and even now as an adult, these dogs knock me over every time they just try to be a little too affectionate. Give them an ear scratch and it'll feel like playing arm wrestle with their heads

A key factor in deciding a breed is if you can physically control the dog. Not many people can physically control a 130-150lb dog whether the dog is attacking someone or something or if it decides to turn on its owner. Be careful when getting a dog of this magnitude!!!

@redfailhawk
@redfailhawk Жыл бұрын
This, and the fact that he is being leash less in a store. I want to shock him for that alone. If one of his dogs attacks a service dog he's going straight to jail for negligence and being sued by the handler. I don't care how well you claim the dog is trained... If you need a shock collar, it's not trained. That said, I have nothing against blind dog vibration/beep collars for the yard to tell them where boundaries are. My last dog went blind and she loved her beep collar as she could play outside without a leash thanks to it.

In my life I've had 1 dobe, 2 rotties, 1 DDB, 1 Neapolitan, 1 Presa, 1 Cane Corso and 1 Boerboel aswell as sheepdogs, JR, chihauhau and mixed breeds. Not for protection or any particular reason other than companions as we are fortunate to have the room in our home and plenty of land. They've all sadly passed away now from old age or cancer now. I can only say from my experience that my rotties, cane corso and boerboel were the most balanced dogs I've ever had with their excellent judgement, protectiveness & friendliness. My presa was great with humans but he would turn and literally rip open a dog without any warning so he was kept separate from the others. That's not to say that this is a testament for all those breeds, I believe a lot of it comes from their breeding for example, my Neapolitan was a liability, he didn't seem the full ticket and had very bad judgement and behaviour, he bit me twice but it wasn't an attack, it was an over zealous warning, unexceptable I agree but he was my partners dog before we met and I don't feel my partner was firm or consistant with him at all so I blamed my partner more than the dog. I honestly think that he was also very badly bred and likely inbred. However, I have been told by many Neapolitan owners that they are really friendly, well behaved dogs.

@@privateundisclosed4448 there is something about a boerboel. Not many does are as imposing. Huge head , thick chest , pure power that can still out run a horse . And very sweet goof balls with the family that they love and will give their lives to protect. The only thing I could say is my BB was a free thinker. If there was anything she saw as a potential threat she didn't look to me for guidance. She would make the call and check with me later . It was a switch to that protective mode and she was dialed in until the job was done. I'd assume that's because they were breed to be on the farms alone a lot and encouraged to make their own decisions about threats. She looked to me for everything else . Can I eat this , may I walk through the door way . Just not the protective thing.

I hope most folks thinking of getting one do not follow through. Most people need to stay away from breeds like that because most can't handle them.

Translation - not good for many families. Again, you have to be a leader like the guy in this video - strong, confident and very sure of what you're doing - a leader.

Shit! I never knew of this breed but hey, they're massive! And looks damn serious too! I switch again! Once thought Kangol and Volkadov were at. The very top! But now?! 😳

If you can handle an apbt or Malinois this dog will be easy to live with. They are alot like Rottweilers in every way in my opinion. Excellent guard dogs that you will have to show that you're the pack leader very early. Must socialize it as a puppy, if not you will have to put the dog up everytime you have company over.

I would take a boerboel any time! Love the breed, they are amazing. Spent 20 years in South Africa so I am biased, actually prefer these beauties over rotties... all mastiffs in general are just a beautiful dog for families, as long as the owner is a good leader.
