Dr. Anthony Chaffee is an American medical doctor and Neurosurgical resident who, over a span of 20+ years, has researched the optimal nutrition for human performance and health.
It is his assertion that most of the so-called chronic diseases we treat as doctors are caused by the food we eat, or don't eat, and can be reversed with dietary changes to a species specific diet.

Obviously you would not be in ketosis most of the time due to the fact that protein causes gluconiogenesis where your liver releases its own carbohydrates to the body. Carnivores do not depend on ketosis for weight loss. It's technically not a keto diet but it is low carb.

Going to be interesting for a while and I certainly am not touching anything grown in a lab...and no, it isn't real meat. I'm 55 and am coming up on a solid 2 years of Carnivore Diet. Reversed a few health issues and feel better than when in my 30's. I was treated with a very low fat high vegetarian professional diet started 20 years ago. Went total vegan out of failing health concern. I got severely sick on the Vegan diet professionally administered. It was literally killing me. Many drugs were given to me to keep getting up and moving a little. Carnivore has saved my life and I can see very clearly how ignorant our health care system is. I has some good surgery work done but the rest was all quackery drug directed. They were killing me slowly but surely. If you are Vegan I understand and accept your dedication to save the animals. However just know you are not designed to eat plants and nuts. You are a carnivore by design. Plants are just a filler until you can get food. Meat...

The two main things people experience when going carnivore is a bunch of weight loss and general fatigue/weakness. Hunger signaling gets down regulated, electrolyte imbalances are common, and a high level of ketosis is highly catabolic. Adding electrolytes to everything and eating a full calorie count is almost always the solution.
@williamboquist4090

I experienced exactly what you described. I have not yet found a way to feel as highly energetic on carnivore as I feel on carbs. Lots of carbohydrate (especially simple carbs) delivers plenty of energy, but eventually results in weight gain and joint stiffness; on carnivore, I experience weight loss, painless joints and low energy. I actually notice myself moving in ways that are less taxing on my muscles than the way I normally move while working in order to conserve energy.

On what he is saying. So I did not go to strict carnivore like he does. I eat meat, milk, eggs, fruit, honey. But I dtopped eating like crap (vegetables, and have a cheat meal 2 times a week with French fries, and drinking coffee and energy drinks all the time) my body feels so much better. I use to be sore and stiff constantly. I thought it was due to my powerlifting, but it turns out giving up coffee which was the last thing on my elimination all the achiness went away. And that was decaf coffee swiss water decafinated. But, without the coffee I have a lot of depression symptoms. I added back in tea 1.5 years later and didn't notice anything. But, I learned that tea has a lot of fluoride and those who drink a lot of tea tend to be more predisposed to fractures, and osteoarthritis. So I decided to try the decaf coffee. At first it was fine no achiness and no stiffness. My depression symptoms vanished with my first sip. But then within 2 weeks of drinking it and I felt just as stiff as 2 years prior and I wasn't use to that. I literally couldn't run or jump with my kids because I felt like I was going to tear something I was so tight. Then my back started hurting. But my mood was so much better I thought it might be something else I had also just started adding tomatoes back into my diet. So I eliminated that which seemed to help ( I really didn't want to give up my swiss water decaf) but the stiffness just didn't get any better. So I gave up the coffee. Within 24 hours my stiffness was decreased by 80 percent. By day 2 it decreased by 95%, I'm now on day three and no stiffness. So back to what he was saying I don't think you'll risk anaphylaxis if you accidentally eat a piece of parsley you'll just know you are something you shouldn't have. Like how I was with the coffee. Like if I lived a sedentary lifestyle not lifting or running and jumping with my kids it would only be a slight discomfort. But when I tried to take of a run or touch my toes I felt too tight to safely do that without a proper warm up.

I notice whenever I eat beef bolognese at the staff canteen I get a recurring intense pain in my right Achilles tendon. It feels incredibly sore & lasts at least 3 days leaving me finding it impossible to walk without a limp for the duration. I’ve been strict carnivore for around 5 years now. I’ve never felt better in SO many ways, but if I stray off the path out of desperation, for example, not being early enough to set off to work to get food from the supermarket before going into work, and having to resort to food with plant foods in etc, that’s when I notice my body’s sensitivities to the toxins come biting me in the ass again. The funny thing is the last time I ate a large meal from the canteen with onions and other vegetables mixed in, it was beef bolognese, and the same acute pain in the exact spot on my Achilles came up. That time it lasted almost a week. And then this time a few months later I strayed with the same beef bolognese, and right on-cue around a day later the same intense pain in the exact same spot. It lasted a few days less this time, but since I’m so strict and consistent with everything in my diet & my lifestyle is so routine, it was easy for me to triangulate on the issue and what had caused it! Really is fascinating as heck seeing these issues and recognising their origin.

I do wonder if carnivore diets are somewhat self fulfilling. Your digestive system makes adjustments based on what you're eating, so if you go months without eating plants, the enzymes good at breaking plants won't be produced and you'll have a reaction when you eat them. But if you were to slowly add them back in and let your body adjust maybe you won't get such a reaction.
@sircharles7323
@sircharles7323 Жыл бұрын
@@TheSpecialJ11 That´s all theory, and also all the studies out there, if they are not metastudies combining the results of many many studies are more or less worthless, as there is mostly a failure in the small world of this study. One thing I believe is for sure, that in a common canteen you won´t get anything healthy to eat, not matter if it is plant or meant. It has to be cheap and quickly, but not fresh and healthy. And the worst thing is, that they all use cheap processed seed oils for cocking, and that will make any food poison anyway!

I have to donate MY 2 cents here. First let me paint a picture...(chicken scratch sketch really)...I first went into ketosis Thanksgiving day 2019. 51 yrs old. 250+lbs. (I had no scale) Clean, strict KETO. By April 2020 I was down 85 lbs. I ONLY had urine test strips. Never an actual blood meter. I did begin consuming all those then NEW koto snacks that began coming out about 5-6 months after I started keto so I did became what's called "dirty" keto. Also, I stayed in ketosis because it felt good. It was a struggle to stay in keto though. According to those urine test strips I only was ever in "trace" mode. Basically barely any ketones in my urine. Fast forward 3 years-June 2023. I FINALLY went full carnivore. Other than around 12 ounces of buttered coffee in the morning I gave up all plant food. No fake sugars, nothing. The only thing processed is my butter and bacon. I CAN NOT BELIEVE I WAITED SO LONG😔 Anyways...the transition was very minimal. I had been keto and was fat adapted. And just like everyone in the comments claims...the benefits and changes have been phenomenal. So unbelievable its no wonder people struggle to believe it. It is kind of miraculous. Im babbling. Sorry. THE POINT IM TRYING TO MAKE IS....since day 2 of my transition to 100% carnivore with coffee according to urine test strips I am in "high ketosis". And 2 months later I JUST STAY IN DEEP KETOSIS!! Effortlessly! After 3 years of literally straggling every day to produce a faint pink tint on those test strips...without fail it is very dark pink/burgundy/ purple ( whatever shade you want to call it.) I stay in that wonderful state of ketosis now. I call it PERFECT KETOSIS. I wish I could afford one of those ketone blood meters but they have not decreased in price at all these last 4 years. And I certainly don't need one. I can FEEL if I ever am not in ketosis. But just like most other people who have trudged through this amazing journey YOU SO BADLY WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW! Everybody deserves to feel this damn good!! And its JUST FOOD! No tricks, no gimmicks, NO EXTRA MONEY! 🥺 But the brainwashing has been so well done that even proof isn't always enough. The movie The Matrix is quoted constantly. And I believe now that the real and actual "Matrix" is the state that carbohydrates put us in. And the "red pill" is nothing more than fatty meat. Absolute deviance. Rant over.

I recall Dave Asprey saying in an interview that carnivore definitely confers health benefits but there are some drawbacks to be aware of, too. This is an excerpt from one of his website pages: "If you’re going to dramatically reduce or eliminate your carb intake, I recommend you do what makes you feel good. It is a great idea to feed your good gut bacteria with collagen peptides or butter. Here’s why. "If you eat exclusively meat, you’re going to be short on short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) called butyrate. Your gut bacteria use butyrate as fuel to keep your intestinal wall strong. In one animal study, researchers discovered that an all-raw-meat diet led to SCFA deficiencies.[6] "Another animal study found that cheetahs were able to ferment collagen from bones and chicken cartilage into SCFAs, so we know it’s possible, but no one has checked for this in humans.[7] (I broke this news about collagen in a chapter of “The Bulletproof Diet.”) Unless you’re going to nosh on buckets of cartilage and bone broth, it’s easier to just supplement with butter, which contains a common short chain fatty acid called butyric acid. "You also have to consider what a high-protein diet does to inflammation. Red meat is high in the amino acids cysteine, tryptophan, and methionine, which are pro-cancer and pro-aging in excess.[8] [9] You can hit your protein macros without going overboard by consuming more collagen, which is a source of protein that doesn’t contain the same amino acids as a steak. Instead, collagen is high in glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline - amino acids also support a strong gut lining." Most carnivore eaters I've read after talk about how great they feel, how much their health has improved, but I never hear any talk about the SCFA information excerpted above. Sometimes I've left feeling like some of them really don't want to know, so by avoiding particular details altogether (or, cherry-picking the lab work that reflects positively on their carnivore food strategy), they don't actually know and therefore there's nothing to ignore, minimize, deny, etc. I just want to know what's true. I don't care what that happens to be. So in some ways, taking a careful look at the details of our biology makes a lot of sense to me. Follow the science wherever it leads, right?
@BruuHaHa
@BruuHaHa Жыл бұрын
@RichardHarlosII Good points. I don't think Dr Chaffee is in the category of not wanting to know, but it's still good to know. I think the short chain fatty acid issue can be addressed by using butter as you said, but also 2 other ways - 1 by the collagen/connective tissue fermentation which apparently does happen in humans (It is addressed in Paul Saladino's Carnivore Code book, among other places). 2 Butyrate apparently can also be produced as a ketone when in ketosis. As far as the balance of amino acids being pro cancer, I don't know if that is supported by more than epidemiology, but if it is, that sounds like an argument to eat the whole animal, or closer to that, which would give more collagen etc to balance. I think it may not be natural or responsible to only eat some parts like the muscle meats, we should make sure nothing is wasted.

@@Val.Kyrie. wrote, _"a lot of us do eat extra butter."_ I understand. However, a lot of us also do *not* eat extra butter. If memory serves, Dr. Chaffee eats only meat, salt, and water. If that's the case, then his position that "He knows what his body needs, and he gives his body only that, and he just trusts that it will do 'the right things' with what he gives it" is a lot of faith & presumption from someone who makes their living micro-managing the biology of people who are ill or injured. It's just not a perspective that's defensible from someone trained in biological diagnostics. Does he truly wish to continue not-testing and not-knowing these things until symptoms appear? Doesn't it seem like a much more sensible perspective to test early, before any symptoms appear, in order to monitor what's happening so that if/when something goes wrong and presents symptoms, there's a baseline to compare lab results under symptomatic expression, with lab results prior to symptoms? "Do no harm" implies that one knows the difference between 'harm' and 'no harm', and that at any moment, one can test to see whether 'harm' is occurring. And, to be clear, I'm not trying to dump on Dr. Chaffee; I'm challenging the mindset and the practice that he expressed. It's not personal; it's data.

If you’re looking for a carnivore dieter who checks their ketones, you’ll find plenty. Typically, what you’ll find is that an all meat diet will cause individuals to swing in and out of a mild ketosis - as opposed to keto dieters who may remain in a deeper, more clinical ketosis, though it does depend on the individual. One can argue the former is more ideal for humans and their evolution as we find a more mild ketosis in traditional populations like the Maasai and others.

I think one should eat everything that is available in your local market and is grown within 100-150 kms from where you live. Those food are most adapted to the climate and environment you live in and can benefit you the most. You want to treat your body like a Swiss watch or a G-Shock, it's your prerogative. Carbohydrate metabolism of healthy carnivores, such as the dolphin, cat, mink and bats differs from metabolism in healthy omnivores, such as humans, dogs, and rodents. Carnivore metabolism evolved to facilitate efficient consumption of a prey-based diet that is high in protein and low in carbohydrate content. Much of carnivore metabolism remains undiscovered but we do know some things. Some animals are what is called “obligate carnivores”. Like all of the cat family and others. They cannot digest carbohydrates very well. They lack salivary amylase, which is necessary for initiating digestion of some forms of carbohydrate in the mouth while chewing. They have differences in digestive enzymes. They have reduced activities of pancreatic amylase and intestinal disaccharidases when compared to other species. They also have lost the ability to make amino acids and vitamins in their own bodies the way herbivores or omnivores are able to do. Cats lack the ability to synthesize sufficient amounts of vitamin A and arachidonic acid. Their digestive systems are different than those that eat carbs. It is very short relative to the body length. They don't need as many bacteria to digest things. They also have alterations to taste bud sensitivities (including a heightened response to amino acids and a loss of response to many mono- and di-saccharides). They meet their energy needs from de novo production from non-sugar substrates (gluconeogenesis) of protein rather than using carbs to do this. Vegetarian or omnivore animals have breakdown of stored carbohydrate (glycogenolysis) to get glucose as well. In carnivore livers they have hexokinase I and II but do not have glucokinase. Gluconeogenesis in the non-carnivore liver is activated during fasting and starvation and is inhibited by nutrient and hormone signals from the gut after a meal. In obligate carnivores, hepatic gluconeogenesis is continually active. The metabolic adaptations that sustain glucose homeostasis in carnivores are maladaptive in humans, producing insulin resistance and glucose intolerance and leading to myriad undesirable metabolic consequences. If obligate carnivores don’t get enough meat and fat and get only carbs they will start breaking down their own bodies to get energy. They will also get an arginine deficiency. Without dietary arginine the urea cycle does not function and the accumulation of nitrogenous byproducts results in the rapid development of hyperammonemia, which may be fatal. Along with a high dietary protein requirement, they also have comparatively greater nitrogen loss and hepatic activities of catabolic enzymes than non-carnivores. Carnivores have just evolved to be different in many ways.
