The Titan compound Mitre Saw from Screwfix is the cheapest I could find, and I wanted to figure out if the Titan was worth getting, and if it could replace a behemoth of a sliding mitre saw that I'd previously had in the workshop.
This isn't a review, but an overview and showing how to set up, I'll talk more about it at a later stage.

Brill , I bought this exact same saw today, I'm fairly new to hobby carpentry so didn't need to buy "site" spec tools, after watching the video I feel a bit more confident about setting my saw up.... Good shout about the ear defenders !

I've only just started watching your channel so I'm on catch up, I bought one of these before Covid lock down to build some decking for my daughter that's the reason I didn't want to spend a lot it did a decent job and is still going to this day.I must say mine is slightly different it has a cam system to lock the angle swing it works a treat instead of that horrible knob you have, good luck with it 👍

Really helpful video, thank you. Am trying to adjust the blade so it's square to the fence. Only slightly out, but no mention of how to adjust in the instructions. I tried undoing the hex fixings & they are not for moving with my allen keys. Thought I must be doing something wrong, and found this, pointing out the hex slots for adjusting the fence. So thank you for clarifying what I need to do, now I need to find some levers! Have subscribed and hope to find your planned video on creating your own fence. Cheers.

I bought this a month ago and just used it now after reading every part of the manual. For some reason the wood clamp does not have a hole in the rear where you can tighten the clamp along the horizontal axis (behind the black vertical tube part) so no clue how the hell I'm supposed to keep a piece of wood securely fastened. That aside the first test (without cutting anything) scared the BEJEZUZ out of me so much I had to wait 30m minutes before the adrenaline subsided (I'm really not joking - I kept imagining the blade entering my chest even though I was at it's side lol). It is INCREDIBLY powerful! One I gained some confidence from cutting a couple of small plywood pieces it made a sudden jolt...or rather the wood did. I IMMEDIATELY stopped and unplugged the saw from the mains and checked the blade. The blade was fine but then I realized the problem. In the saw groove where the saw enters to finish a cut was a piece of wood. This was sticking up slightly so when I came to sawing the next piece those two pieces impacted each other. *WARNING* Do *NOT* use the saw for small trimming!!! I was trying to trim small sections about 2-3mm thick which is why they keep falling into the groove. I know this may seem common sense to many of you seasoned woodworkers but for us beginners PLEASE take heed. Lesson learned! That clamp issue is irking me hard still. Grrrrrrrrr *EDIT:* I don't know how but the clamp works just fine. I thought it needed fastening with a clamp in the rear at the bottom but I think I figured it out. It's designed to be slightly at an angle so when you tighten it it pushes against the inside of where it is slotted into. If that makes any sense. So sorry to Titan, it all works the way it's supposed to :] OH and btw. The sawdust bag sucks. Was far more sawdust (I used goggles and a mask so please do the same) on the outside than in the bag. It's tightening spring or whatever you wana call it at the opening of the bag is terrible. It's essentially just a piece of stiff wire.

I've just got this as a replacement for an unwieldy slide version, and found this video really helpful for familiarising myself quickly - thanks for making a lot more sense to me than a written booklet. Really appreciate the time you took to cover all the setup info. I'm wondering if you ever went on to improve the fence, and if you have covered it in a video already - apologies if you have, I checked the titles and didn't spot it, but am working my way through all your videos in order now ;) I'd love to see what you might have done, and any tips for swapping out the short fence for a nice long workbench fence (maybe 2 metres) with a few stop options.

I bought the Titan SDS hammer drill for about fifty quid and it is unbelievably powerful and came with bits that would cost more than £50 anywhere else. The chisel action destroyed some old render on a garden wall and removed it in minutes whereas a bolster and mallet was taking hours.

New sub here courtesy of Keith Brown 👋 I got the evolution R210CMS which is a similar saw, price and quality-wise. The stock blade was okay but I highly recommend swapping it out for a better one (strange arbor size though, trend make a blade that fits). It has similar downsides to this one, but for a casual user I can't sniff at the price.

If you’re looking for a mitre cut then yes, there is a bolt with a yellow top just behind the fence. Loosen that, spin the unit in the table to get the desired angle, then tighten up the bolt again

Comparing the Titan to my experience with cheap mitre saws, sliding and not: the Titan has a less aggressive start; and seems smoother on its bearings. The Screwfix no-quibble exchange during the guarantee period, another strong point.

Definitely, I mentioned the screwfix policy on my last video and think it’s great. What makes this seem like a harsher start is the fact that the whole thing is so light I guess

Using it as its cheap. Would really like a laser :) but the issue I appear to have and not sure if its fault, when you use the slide function, on mine if you watch the blade on a straight cut it ends up not running true. Anyone else got same issue?
@janegaff6970
@janegaff6970 11 ай бұрын
Meee!! I just got mine and I thought it was the old door surround that was causing my straight edge skirting to sit out. But then I realised it was the blade not doing a true straight cut 😮. Also when doing a 45 angle the bottom plate that turns moved on me! But it’s my first time so I’m still learning.

Woodworking Beginner: New - Update. This test is only if you want to saw with precision with a miter saw.(test is not intended for rough and hard work). Tips and Test: It's better to know than not to know. Important to know if you would like to saw with precision. (avoid torsion as much as possible)! Always choose a Miter saw with a handle positioned in a VERTICAL line above the saw blade. Everything must be aligned, slide rails, handle, and saw blade,it is much better this way the blade will not tilt. Because there is some torsion in the aluminum housing . And choose an engine with softstart on it to prevent wear of the gear and worm shaft. It is very important that everything is aligned. Here are some examples to show how the handle must be positioned above the blade. First option: handle vertical positioned above the saw blade. Bosch gcm 800 sj / Bosch gcm 8 sjl / Evolution rage 3 / FESTOOL KS 60 / Bosch GCM 8 SDE / FESTOOL KS 60 E KAPEX / Metabo KGSV 72 Xact/ Bosch PCM 8 SD / Hitachi C10FSH / Ridgid MS255SR 10-inch / Evolution Fury3-S / Evolution R255SMS / Metabo HPT C10FSBS / Hitachi C10FSB / Hitachi C10FS. Second optie: handle horizontal positioned above the saw blade / Evolution R185SMS / Evolution F255SMS / Evolution RAGE3R255 SMS3 . (This also is the case with the Miter saw without the slide rails). (If you want). You can test it yourself at home if there is torsion in the aluminum housing. Step-1. First you make a saw cut from +-5 mm deep in to a flat piece of wood about +- 20 mm thick to this with the normal handle positioned on the right side of the Miter saw (the wood it will remain in place until the test is completed). Step-2. Then repeat this by pushing the saw blade down with your hand or finger on the aluminum protective cover were the saw blade is cased in. Just now only do this without the running engine. Step-3. Now you can see if the saw blade will be positioned in or next to the saw cut. If the saw blade is (+- 0,2 / 0,5 mm) next to the saw cut then there is torsion in the aluminum housing. (test is completed). Conclusion: Therefor it is much better to choose a Miter saw with the handle positioned VERTICAL in line above the saw blade. The second option is the handle positioned HORIZONTAL in line above the saw blade. Remember this, the test is only about torsion and nothing else how further away the handle is from the saw blade how more chance of torsion in the aluminum housing, you better not go for that. (the choices are yours). Also with a cheap slide miter saw it is still better the handgriff in line a above the saw blade than on the right side. Maybe they will make it someday then we have a winner... P.S. When you measure the vertical 90 degrees angle square (Digital Level Box) of you're sawblade don't forget that there is always some torsion in the aluminum housing.

Woodwork Joinery, I think the point is, that a handle that's off to the side will tend to pull the blade out of line - whereas with a handle that's directly in line with the edge of the blade, you're pulling straight down without twisting, and the cut should be exactly where you expect it to be
