A Super Car to me is a car you see when your 12 years old and say I’m going to have one of those someday. For me that was the Corvette. I was 12 years old in 1975 and the C3 corvette was so beautiful. I kept that promise to myself I currently have a 79 C3 the same year I got my drivers license. I also have a 90 C4 and a 2010 C6 Grand Sport convertible. Every corvette to me is Super and people always want to talk about them. Another great video and great conversation starter Lyle.

Why does the media have this conflict about a Corvette. I'd it puts out super car numbers then it's a super car. If the car had a Forgien badge and a built overseas you the media would drool and Bragg about it. A vette puts out impressive numbers and can be driven daily..

Our '22 Chevy Tahoe is a supercar! That thing takes our boys to school, medical appointments, etc. It takes my wife and I (only!) out on special occasions...especially those 'really rare' 😂 times when the extra room in the back comes in handy 😜. We can load it to the gills (definitely no pun intended!), boys included 😮, on our long travels. But, when I hop in my C6 Z06, well, that Tahoe just can't keep up! You forgot the Callaway Vettes, those were definitely in the super car bracket. The ones you mentioned are borderline but can be considered still a super car

My 2024 Chevrolet Trax is a super car. Because it allows me to have my 21 Camaro 2SS and my 23 Corvette Z51 home in garage.

What you describe as a Super Car is also now being classified as a Hyper Car, and the Super Car designation is being applied to C8 and other Corvettes as well as what you described as Super Sports Cars. The Hyper Car designation could continue to be more widely accepted for the elite cars you mentioned. Thanks for your thoughts on these outstanding vehicles.

I've always considered Corvette as America's Ferarri. Colors are very similar as well. Yes a Ferarri is not very attainable here, but so is the corvette over seas.

LYLE- What about C5 Z06 for early 2000's especially 2001-2004 ??

I think all ZR-1s besides the C3 are supercars, and the C8 Z06 is one too. I'm fine with my base C4 being called a sports car because--it's still one hell of a sports car! I mean, 29-0 SCCA showroom stock come on!

Ehh I wouldnt use rarity, cost or exclusivity as a criteria, those all can be manipulated by anyone. Super car should soley be based on performance, technology, and unique design. All 3 of those requires very smart and talented people. I would argue that the c4 zr1, c6 z06, c6 zr1, c7 zr1 and now c8 z06, were all super cars for the time period of release. I agree with a lot of what you said. However, the Camaro and Mustang are not sports cars, IMHO. They are muscle cars, as are big block Vettes back in the day. Keep up the good work, Lyle!

Lyle great to meet you at the show last week, if you've never meet Lyle super nice guy stands at least 6'-7" no idea how he fits in the early C1 and C2 models. Supercar, I'm thinking early Pantera with the Cleveland 351. I worked in a body shop in the late 70's and a guy brought one in, I thought it was super cool and quick.

I love my C8 Z06. My favorite feature is the Cavalier turning indicator stalk. I think things like that are why Corvettes get a bad wrap. I agree with your list Lyle.

Exclusivity isnt a factor in the least. Its ascension of designation is based on the sports factor. The ENTIRE Y chassis C8 Corvette lineup encompasses the SUPERCAR MANTRA strictly on performance alone. Dont forget a Z51 Stingray is a much faster track capable car that the entire 458 series. The Z51 is the PORSCHE CARRERA S equivalent, and that Porsche is 150,000 bucks. The Z06 is Porsches GT3 equivalent with its variants. The upcoming ZR1 will be the 992 GT2 competition. These are all SUPERCARS in every sense of the word. ALREADY we have track prepped C8s on cup 2s absolutely destroying lap times, and the Z06 was tested throwing down faster lap times than ANY McLaren 720 S worldwide.

Im actually a ford guy, but that super car ended with the Pantera, for road going cars. So Corvette wins.

I like the term "Supercar Killer" for the C8 Z06. It's price is certainly not exclusive - although terribly expensive - and it isn't going to be built in such limited quantities that it won't depreciate.

Its interesting that you only touch on RPO super cars. The Calloway C4 corvettes should certainly be considered super cars because they tick all the boxes as far as price, exclusivity, power and speed . The 1988 cost about $26,000 added to the base price of the corvette you provided Callaway for the twin turbo addition along with distinctive bodywork. They would easily hit the double century mark.

Here in Germany Things are complete different. If you drive on the Street, you see at least two Porsche 911 every Day. Nobody look after a 911 in Germany. But when you drive a DeLorean, People treat you like it would be a Lambourghini Diabolo. Its funny, because in the USA a DeLorean is a crappy trash Car, while in Germany everyone turn around when you see one of them. Same Deal with a Corvette. Most People recognize it from 100 meters away.

The 1969 or 1968 ZL1 was a super car of the C3 generation. The L-88 was certainly a contender.

It’s nice to have these cars in categories but shouldn’t there be some sort of objective measure to determine what category they’re in? For example: top speed and skid pad measures. And then you get into HyperCars. I have a c3 and a c7 and never thought about where they rank. Maybe the c3 because it has over 120k miles and still doesn’t burn oil. lol.

I consider my 2011 Lamborghini Gallardo as a minimum super car, and my corvette, and corvettes in general are great sports cars. I love them both for different reasons. I might agree on the C7 ZR-1 as a super car. I am, and will always be a corvette girl.

It is a car that if it breaks down it takes 6 months to get the parts, and another 6 months for someone to show up that knows what to do with the parts. That is a paraphrase from I think R&T or Car & Driver from the late '60's or early '70's. Unless you have a very larger disposable income, a corvette is the best bet for the 'every person supercar'. JMHO. My 72 LT-1 would turn my buds 71 911 inside out and I had heat and A/C! What about the '67 427 with I believe the "C47" package. R&T tested one of those at Daytona's road course and off the trailer broke the lap time for A/sports production(?). A well tuned sb/FI C2 could run away and hide from any XKE, and 911 of the time. So what is a super car?

To me, supercars are about the performance. When a car performs so much better than "average" that there are only 2 or 3 models that perform similarly, rarity is inherent. So, C4 ZR1, C6 ZR1, C7 Z06 and ZR1, C8 Z06 and the new ZR1 when it lands.

Mustangs camaros challengers are examples of gt(grand tourer) cars oviously theres levels depending each individual budget and taste bentley continental mercedes benz gt the aston martin db series these are all german examples, whats the definition of a gt car, simply put its a car that its designed for a good amount of power and handling and its the same type of sports car that has been designed with comfortable long trips in mind as well, on the other hand a super car is more track focused such as the corvette in general which doesn’t necessarily have to be a z06 or zr1(those are different levels super cars) more over the other category should be exotic super cars which are also track focused with a much higher price tag then corvette due to the high craftsmanship and quality of all materials used such as lambos, ferraris, porsche etc

Having learned to drive in a succession of old English sports cars, I feel anything not designed for lightness and an eye towards the spartan simplicity of true sporting equipment is disqualified from the sports car label. one could apply the criteria of price, exclusivity and performance to ladies handbags, I wonder if fashionista's have a super bag category. The last climate event killed eight people in my home state , so I'm not that enthusiastic about riding the more of the same train.

"Supercar" used to be the top tier of sports and performance cars but now that category is called "Hypercar". The proving grounds for these top tier cars is typically the Nurburgring or a dragstrip or airstrip. Supercars need to achieve top 3% on one or all of the proving grounds while Hypercars have to be in the top 1% combined with some unconventional forms of technology and materials that make them far more expensive and rare as a result. I thought you gave some great examples of Corvettes that qualify as Supercars. You could probably add the C6 Zr1 to that list as well.

I disagree with you about the exclusivity of some of those exoicteics in that I need to own x number to be"in the club" Not saying that some of those exoicties aren't Supercars. I have a 2014 Corvette Z51 with a supercharger , M7 Velocity Yellow with black stripes, Kooks headers and catless x pipe and Billy boat fusion axel back. Not a Super car. I would think a Supercar would be hand built. I don't think Corvette's are supercars. There's too many of them. You could literally buy any of them right now. The only one that could be, is the C7 ZR1.

Let me end the argument really really quickly a 2006 Lamborghini Gallardo is 500hp 196mph super car and is slower around the track (top gear 1:22.4 for Z06 1:25.8 for the Gallardo, and Murciélagois at 1:23.7 all dry) has the same hp number and a a slower top speed than the 2006 Chevorlet Corvette Z06 officially at 198 It’s only when you go to the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera do you beat the c6 zo6 with a 1:20.8 and then my response is ZR1 1:20.4 on a damp track so if you have a Lamborghini or Ferrari and you want to keep taking copeium be my Guest because Corvette been right up your *** for years now

Sorry, Lyle, but I do not think that Mustangs and Camaros are sports cars rather than simply performance cars. They were sold as 1/4-mile terrors, not road course warriors. I would call the upper echelon versions of these cars track cars (road and track, not sports).

Good overall definition of a "Super Car," but do not agree that any Corvette was, or is, a Super Car. Regardless of the model Vette, it is a "Chevy" that can be purchased at just about any Chevy dealer. Now, if in fact there is a 'Zora' that has very limited numbers, less than a hundred, then it may be a Super Car, but we will have to wait to see the performance details and the design. As far as the C8 Z06, from a distance, can you tell it apart from the regular Stingray (other than that huge wing)? Great vid, keep it up.
