Which action camera is better the DJI Osmo Action 4 or the GoPro Hero 12 Black. This is a question that I have been asked quite a bit. I definitely have a preference and in this video, I am doing a comparison of the two cameras and sharing my thoughts on which one has been my go-to camera. We all have different needs when it comes to what we want in an action camera but I think for most people in my opinion the DJI Osmo Action 4 will be a better choice for several reasons.

This is an extremely good presentation and Go Pro corporate had better take notice. I am a Go Pro user myself, but I have to admit that the DJI magnetic mount system, better charging, and better heat resistance, among other things, are pretty compelling. Go Pro had better wake up and smell the coffee. In particular, the DJI magnetic mount system appears to be far superior to Go Pro with the expensive and clunky Snap Mount after market magnetic clamp system. FWIW I have never had my Go Pro Hero 12 lock up or freeze, but then again I am sure that Air Photography has a lot more experience than I do.

I like the GoPro mount way better. I use my GoPro for all kinds of sports. and the magnetic attachment i think is good if your a vlogger or just filming your day. But if you get in a snowboard crash or something. Is the magnetic clamp going to hold and not send my camera flying somewhere?

@@strantheman2532 the magnet is just to help you aligning the hooks/clamps of the DJI holes in the bottom. @RogerBuffington always update gopro from SD card, the firmware through app is a joke and makes it freeze. I had month trip to japan with Hero 11 and no freezing, not even once. I made 250 clips on during that trip. I had hero 10 for a year and had zero freezes. On hero 4 and hero 7 it was a 15% chance happening every time.

Had a gp8. Got tired of the bugs. Bought the original Action. Was happy with that. Then gave GoPro a new chans. Had the 11 for a while. Same experience as with the 8. Now rocking the action 4 and I will never look back again.

I agree I sent my 12 back because of overheating and shutdowns. Love my action 3. I am waiting for action 5 hoping for built in wireless mic and 1” sensor.

Exactly what I'm waiting for, and the DJI pocket 3 with built in DJI mic 2 support and 1 inch sensor I hope is a good sign for the action 5. I've had 2 Gopro's but ready to make the switch if those 2 features are added.

The Action 4 has a lot going for it, especially in the quality of use aspects. But in the important things such as video quality, stabilization and ruggedness, these two are very close. You really can’t go wrong with either one. Great comparison, and thanks for sharing.

Totally agree. Dji all the way. I’m tired of my GoPros always freezing, terrible low light and all the other things you mentioned lol great video as always. I’ve been subbed for years btw!

Thank you very much. I appreciate the support over the years. And agreed it’s hard for me to say that I prefer the action for as I’ve always been a GoPro user. But DJI has really come out swinging with their action cameras. It’ll be interesting to see what both companies do next year.

I haven't used a GoPro since gen1. I mainly miss that tough underwater housing that not only allowed for 30-50ft of diving but also took BB hits like a champ at my airsoft games. Fast forward to my parenting days, GoPro was in its 7th or 8th iteration. But DJI was coming out with their Action for a fraction of the price of a GoPro. And I've been on the Action since, until a week ago when I got the Action4. I haven't seen the footage yet on screen, I'm currently waiting for my work shutdown to build my new computer to edit from. But just on features alone has kept me on DJI. One downside I found with the mag mounting system, though: the twist knob will get in the way of my sausage fingers to trigger the release clamps.

Great video. One way to get the gopros not to lock out is to remove the battery and attach a power bank. I know this defeats the purpose of portability but if you use a tripod like i do i believe is ok. Not making excuses for gopro they should have sorted that out. I skipped the gopro12 and buying Osmo Pocket 3 which is on order from Amazon. I was lucky to get one before it went out of stock for the $519 version.

personally i went with a hero 12 this year specifically for the max lens 2.0. My favorite gopro videos I have made are from the hero 9 with the max lens 1.0 so I am hoping to get more of those maximum FOV shots for snowboarding

Our GoPro always freezes. It’s a real pain. Showing us the comparisons is really helpful. We certainly think GoPro have to step up to match DJI. Thanks again for another useful video.

Do the firmware update from SD card and reset to factory defaults, after updating SD card only I have had no issues of freezing since Gopro hero 10.

Please, if the temperature sensor covered, is there a problem? If we set the temperature in PRO settings, the sensor will not make any color adjustments?

Indeed, at the end of the day, it’s good for consumers that we have such fierce competition in the action camera market. It should help keep prices down and the companies innovating

Top-notch presentation! Thanks! I've had several GoPros and one DJI action camera and while both brands do a good job, DJI easily wins in the UI comparison.

I keep putting my finger on the trigger to buy the Action 4. The thing is though there are rumours washing around that the Action 5 should be released in August 2024. With this in mind I think thaat I'll hold off. Having had 2 different Gopro's i really dont think i would ever want to suffer another one.

Yes, indeed I actually just received it today. I ordered it right from the mothership so it took a few extra days to get here. I’m just uploading an unboxing video first and then I’m gonna spend a couple of weeks with it before I can make a review

10:08 video infront of bike went very "blocky", is that YT? also throughout the video your audio is poorly equalised. Content wise I can't fault it and a useful comparison. DJI aren't without their problems. The new Pocket 2 has some awful bugs - e.g. poor battery management and non-existent battery level.

I am the owner of GP11,nowadays. I have never encountered such colour temperature miscalculation ever in my GP devices,so your one might be out of order, I guess.

That was an extreme situation due to all the color, but I’ve had that with almost every GoPro I owned. I’ve actually made videos about that over the years on why it’s important to set color temperature on a GoPro especially in those types of scenarios. But between brightly colored foliage and moving in and out of dark to bright areas, go pros have a hard time with color temperature.

The Gopro is definitely not set to it's default settings, Original recordings are so much better quality. Or DJI praising videos are so hard sponsored

I have just got a DJI Osmo 4 - yes, the image quality in general is better. But if I attach it to a mount on my bike, it is way worse than my GoPro 10. The image jitters all over the place on even slightly rough ground, while my GoPro 10 smooth all of that out. Beyond dissapointed with the Osmo Action 4.

Excellent video and information as always! I bought both for motorcycle FPV. The GoPro w media mod may have the advantage for solid connectors. I am going to test both. Can’t wait for your Pocket 3 insights!

I never had a high quality action cam before so This was a VERY hard choice for me, I ended up going with the GoPro im wondering if I should return it… I really like the GoPro but I wanna get the best for my money

I’ve always been a huge GoPro fan and their cameras are still solid. Don’t get me wrong, but lately I’ve been enjoying using my action for more. And even compared to the hero 11 it’s the one I grabbed all summer.

GoPro has Labs, and and OpenGoPro. This alone opens up a whole new world of camera flexibility. We do a lot of short video and lots of photography, and the photo quality is excellent. We take the GP11 everywhere we go and easily capture interesting things.

I dont understand why everyone are so amazed with Action 4 magnetic mount when both gopro 12 and Action 4 have same mount with screw and on top of that mount you have magnetic mount for Action 4. That mean, you had to have on all your accessories classic mount with screw on which you put magnetic. On gopro you dont need that because gopro have buckle mount which is way better because you only need one mount to put on every accessories faster then magnetic.

i recently bought both and the reason I went with GoPro is the SOFTWARE. When you shoot 4K footage on DJI and just want a high quality snapshot their app is horrible for this. Not very on the go editing. So when they are both so close in quality I had to go with which has the most features when is comes to quick fast screen grabs and sharing edits to others.

I also like more the Action 4, but it doesn't have a "Freeframe" mode like the GoPro with the 8:7 aspect ratio or in the insta360 GO3 with its Freeframe mode, once you discover the 8:7 in the GoPro, there is no going back, also im probably in the minority here but i don't like the magnetic mount, it makes the osmo so tall and big that looks really awful.

I did not realize that the pocket 3 had a 1-inch sensor... If the Hero 13 doesn't have one by next October then I am going to buy from DJI...

Indeed, the pocket three has come along way 1 inch sensor, 10 bit dlog and a new 2 inch rotatable screen. I just received mine today and I’m going to get started on testing and reviewing it.
