Is the Eastman SB56 a serious contender?

Here I take a good look at the goldtop Eastman SB56, a traditional mahogany bodied, maple topped, set neck guitar. I discuss how well it stands up against similar single cut guitars. I talk about the materials, workmanship, and overall quality. Of course I provide sound demos, both with and without a backing track.

Great demo! P90's are my absolute favorite pickups. I have the Sire L7V with P90's and that's one of my go to guitars to play. This Eastman SB56 sure looks like a winner!

Thanks for this video. It sounds great true for the price. But, i think haveonly two guitars, not more and if i can, for a definitively last guitar, i prefer pay the cost for a a Gibson. I'm beginning of working on my fender vintera 60' 2 series for the moment

They’re both really nice. I am used to the shorter Gibson scale for this type of guitar. It plays a little slinkier. Funny, I’m at home with the longer, Fender scale. But when a guitar has a tune-o-matic and a stoptail, the shorter scale seems to be what my hands expect. In any case, they’re both fine guitars and each is somewhat of a bargain in its own way.

Sounds great. I’m one of those that thinks an LP style guitar just looks right with the pickguard. I care less about the name on the headstock. If I wanted to spend the money on one, that’s not small change, and I’d have to find a way to add a pickguard. Drilling a new $1900 guitar is not for the faint of heart!

Adding a pickguard wouldn’t be hard, but as you say, it would require drilling a couple of holes and would undoubtedly devalue the guitar even if you did a thoroughly professional job, or have a luthier do it. Of course you’d likely have to make a custom pickguard (or have one made). As much as I would prefer it, I’m not sure I’d want to introduce such an irreversible mod.

I have two Eastman...T486 and the SB59GoldTop. T486 is best guitar of 40 I've owned...including half dozen Gibson/Heritage. The SB59 is very good...not as nice as a LP Standard...mine came with a few cosmetic issues, minor. I'm a lefty...so I appreciate Eastman making great guitars for lefties...

I’ve reviewed a handful of Eastmans now, and I’d say the T486 was my favorite as well (though the fretwork, while good, could have used a little fine tuning). They’re such a great value, even spending $160 for my guy to do his magic, it’s still a bargain. And frankly, I used to have to send my Gibsons and Fenders to him routinely as well. As for cosmetic issues, I’ve personally seen fewer issues with Eastmans than the average Gibson. Pretty hard to go wrong. Thanks for watching.

It was written on 04:28 - fender tone master deluxe reverb (and in another video were he reviews this amp he mentioned he uses the black one but with the blonde software version settings and that he replaced the speaker to Celestion NEO Creamback speaker like the one on the blonde version, so basically it's the blonde fender tone master deluxe reverb with the looks of the black one). Actually I do, just no longer by voice. In most videos it’s in the description but often, like this one, it’s in the text during the playing demo. In any case, it’s usually my Fender Tone Master Deluxe Reverb, which gives a fairly neutral and familiar blackface Fender sound. I typically crank it a bit and demo with no pedals unless I specifically mention one. Thanks so much for watching.
