Last week I posted a pic that I took literally "in the moment". It was actually a moment of pride seeing this wonderful Eastman SB59 on the workshop bench being lovingly setup prior to dispatch.
However.... The photo really did seem to cause offense which I could never have forseen - nearly EVERY post questioning our need to do the fret ends - rather than praising us for our commitment to perfection.
It does raise an interesting point though. At what point does our "intervention" become unwanted?!
One Facebook comment asked if they could request to not have the work done on their guitar! A stab to the heart - but I have to listen to this kind of comment - hence asking you what your thoughts are.
Its a funny old world but hand on heart - sorry if the photo scared anyone.
EVERY guitar we EVER sell goes through a process. It does not mean the guitar is dreadful or the guitar is faulty. Its just our way of ensuring it is as good as every other guitar we have done for the past 24 years!
Here is the pic and the comments on my Facebook guitarspecia...
Let me know your thoughts in the comments - I would be so grateful.

Even though this is now a fairly old video, I thought I would chip in, and hopefully add some further, and updated, perspectives. 😄 I just went through the process of buying a guitar from you this morning, and it was unlike any other guitar buying experience I have ever had. Your courteous, and well-informed, staff, made me feel like I had dropped round to be my favourite self (a guitar geek) in a safe and supportive place full of beautiful guitars, rather than as a potentially exploitable cash resource, to be moved through from showroom to credit-card as quickly as possible! That said, had I left the showroom with the guitar I bought I would have been very well pleased, it is a lovely well crafted and designed instrument, but that would somewhat miss the point of going to you in the first place. What you offer is more of a tailoring service, that matches the player with the guitar, and ensures that any quality control issues there may be are resolved before the guitar is unboxed at home. After all, don't we all hate getting home with a new pair of trousers, only to find that all the belts we have are a poor fit for the size of the belt loops? LOL! 😄 The care and attention you are giving these instruments, and the customer, by listening to our needs and desires, is the reason we are your customers, without that extra attention to detail, and the values that represents, the world would be a slightly dimmer place, and the music we make in it would be slightly less inspired. In the end whatever is needed to make our new guitar work best for us, is obviously in our best interests to be done. P.s Thank you for making my guitar buying experience so positive. Things like that are important, and do not go unnoticed.

My opinion would be, that no matter which make of guitar I purchased, if a professional luthier thought it could be improved, which would increase my enjoyment of playing the instrument, I would be very grateful. I wish more shops were as dilligent in their service to the customer.

Agreed. My problem is that 6 out 7 luthiers aren’t that good. I am in Austin Texas. I went through many bad experiences trying to find a good one. The problem is that the shop owners are myopic on hourly rate. They really think they should charge $50-$100 or more per hour, but pay the luthier $20 to $30. What I am seeing is few luthiers are actually 10 plus year veterans. I’ll pay a premium for an actual expert. I won’t go back to the shops that are advertising over truth. Those shops seem to get a steady stream of the gullible so they won’t ever change. Move to Austin please. Many musicians here. You would be very busy.

I am the lucky owner of the very instrument that is discussed in this video and forum. ONE AMAZING GUITAR. I am and was more than pleased when I saw that the instrument I purchased - receives additional care and some final touches on the workbench before being shipped out. What is there not to like from a robust check up and some extra loving care! I can only congratulate Richard and his team for the work they invest - before shipping a guitar.

Speaking from experience, I recently received a guitar from you. Between ordering and waiting for your setup I went to a local guitar shop and tried the same guitar. The difference was “Chalk and Cheese” The guitar I received from you played like butter, low action, intonation was spot on and the fret ends were smooth, the one in the local shop was awful in comparison, action was very high, intonation was out because of the high action and although the fret ends weren’t “sharp” you could feel them as you moved up the neck. I am very happy that you fiddled with my guitar.

I am a big fan of a famous brand. If I decided to buy a brand new guitar from that company, and order it through you, I would be very interested to get it exactly as that company produced it. If I went to pick it up from you and you started talking of filing the frets, I would be very pissed that you messed with "my guitar" before I even had a chance to check it out. If on the other hand you bought the guitar, speculating that you can find a buyer, it is yours to decide to file the frets. Also there is a certain satisfaction for some people in doing that sort of finish work themselves. The famous brand guitar I recently bought had binding on the neck that I found too sharp so I "sanded" it down and rounded it and also smoothed the frets just a bit. I feel it makes it more "my" guitar. Love your channel.

I think the whole fuss about his picture comes from the fact that, at that price point, things like fret ends should be already completed at the manufacturer. You, as a retailer, shouldn't need to check this, it should already be done. To me, the fact that you carry this out, is kudos to you. the customer is getting a guitar that has been checked before selling on to him/her. That's nice to hear. Your guitar tech sounds like he knows what he's doing.

Richard that is really interesting. I would normally find that very desirable. I’m a guitar technician and extremely fussy about perfect setup. Particularly neck and fret work. Of the many dozens of very high end guitars that I’ve handles over the last few years, almost all of them could be improved with some detail work. However the two Eastman SB59s I’ve had my hands on in the last month were pretty much spot on. Particularly the fret dressing. Just my experience.

You Richard, are going above and beyond providing a quality service! The fine tweaks that make good guitar a great 1! Wood expands and contracts due to humidity in the air! Sometimes referred to as fret sprout the fingerboard shrinks during shipping/ storage leaving fret ends sharp and untidy and a nightmare to play! Don't lower your standards to comply with the corporate machines of big business!

Appreciate the channel and insight Richard. My own experience in the last 3 months. I work in Guernsey, chose a new Gibson Les Paul on a trip to England, had it shipped (otherwise I get hit for tax) and after it arrived I had a local luthier set it up. Without going into war and peace the essential work was as follows carried out after the guitar had settled for a few days in the workshop - wood after all. Note: the wood, condition, finish (thin nitro) and general hardware / component quality were fine, Gibson USA branded. • hardware checks / tighten (tuners / bridge / tail stop were loose in places) possibly down to temperature / travel • truss rod adjustment, neck was out enough to affect playability, possibly down to temperature / travel • string height all over the place - reset to Gibson specs then lowered a touch (request) • pickup height checked / adjusted • fret levelling was good (it had had Gibson's CS Plek treatment at the factory), no fret buzz after TR adjust • fret ends a touch sharp, rounded off • rosewood treated / new strings = 11's (request) - strings stretched in and tuned up several times. • intonation check / adjust • TR checked again, left 5 days, final adjustment. (recommended by luthier) • bridge / saddles adjusted together for string angle relief for improved tuning stability • synthetic bone nut (stock) filed for 11s, cleaned lubricated and... • rear (headstock side) groove ends rounded off for improved tuning stability (these were sharp may have bound the strings) A £1000+ Gibson was not OK out of the box - some of it down to travelling / storage, some of it arguably down to Gibson the traditional LP design / QC, some of it preference. Categorically, it plays and feels great after the set-up, tuning is stable and I don't view this as a placebo effect. £45 + strings for this service is completely acceptable to me and I would do it every new purchase without a blink.

I guess the thing is that different people like guitars to be set up in different ways (height of action, etc). What people are perhaps missing is that you aren't necessarily setting the guitars up to your own preference as opposed to the customer's preference, what you are doing is just making sure the product you provide is best it can possibly be. OK, so you can't march into your shop and buy a guitar off of the wall, it needs to go into the workshop first. It is a divisive thing, we all suffer from the want it now syndrome, so people think that the extra time it takes to do work on an already 'perfect' guitar is wrong. Every instrument could do from some work. Tell your tech to come and have his holidays in Norfolk and bring his file with him, I've got some guitars that he might feel obliged to work on! ;-)

When asked why guitars need adjustment after assembly, a famous luthier replied "Because trees get even with us for cutting them down." It seems odd that people would not be able to comprehend the geographic changes resulting in extreme changes in temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, etc. that occur when shipping a guitar around the world. These would result in contraction and expansion of the wood which might lead to fret ends needing to adjusted. It is not an indication of unnecessary work, but rather an exceptional commitment to the customer. I have a T49/v and it is my favorite guitar and I plan to buy a SB59/v classic. It is as well made and more musically responsive than past guitars I have owned including a '53 Les Paul, '67 Telecaster and a '68 Gibson ES335. Eastman has broken me of the obsession with vintage instruments as the only path to the Holy Grail of tone.

Perhaps it is about perceptions. Eastman are a fantastic brand and they do put a lot of work into their guitars but anywhere there is a human element involved in production there is always the chance that something like a slightly more squared off fret might slip through. And we are not talking about non-playable here, not with Eastman. Some may not even notice but I think it is a testament to your integrity that you do check each guitar and adjust/refine to make sure a good guitar is a great guitar.

Funny that this appeared on my timeline just now. I've been thinking about buying an Eastman acoustic in the near future. I bought a Romeo SC off you before (pretty sure I elected to not have the setup so I could just get the guitar asap). Eastman's are known for leaving the factory already having been setup. That an 'x value setup' is included in the ticket price (when it shouldn't need a setup) and only serves to slow the process down of getting the guitar in the buyer's hands (most of us want it tomorrow, not next week or the week after). Just my 2c (btw, maybe i'm being biased as I can do setups and more myself)

Even if no work is needed it is reassuring as a client to know that the instrument is being inspected for flaws and imperfections, if necessary rejected. My landlord was disappointed with his USA Strat that he had to take to his guitar tech to sort out the action. He called the shop to complain and was told they don't take them out of the boxes before sending them out. Not good enough.

If you can feel the fret corners they need to be filed. One light stroke of a file can make all the difference. I got my Eastman OM from Richards Guitars and you've really got to look hard to see that the corners have been filed, there's so little metal removed, but the difference to the feel is huge. I don't know who did the work; Eastman or Richard's tech, but it's nice to play and I'm glad of it.

If a guitar is stored for a length of time in a dry environment then the fretboard may shrink slightly and leave the fretwires protruding over the edges. In these circumstances, is it best to "dress" the frets to smooth the edges, or make an effort to re-hydrate the guitar? I ask this from personal experience Richard and would appreciate your thoughts/expert opinion.

Personally if I had a choice, I’d prefer that any new guitar would get the best possible setup before it was shipped. That sort of service is really a big differentiator for me. A good setup really makes the difference between a guitar feeling ok to feeling really playable. As long as the finish on the neck isn’t damaged by the work it’s all good for me. As your Facebook experience suggests, there’s always a minority of people ready to complain even when the service is absolutely excellent. They probably don’t really understand what a setup is and why it’s essential in making any guitar feel playable. If they’d ever done a setup themselves, they’d realise that it’s a laborious but normal and necessary part of maintaining any stringed instrument in playable condition.

I own plenty (if not a little too many) guitars, some old - some very old - and a few brand new, but every single one of them have been to a good professional guitarbuilder to be set up right. That includes an Eastman AR503CE that was really nice to begin with, but nevertheless got a lot better. I think it is incredibly good service, that you actually take time to set up guitars from the factory. I don't know a lot of musicstores here in Denmark that do that - most of them sell the guitars as they came from the factory. They may attempt to tune them, but that is about it. So keep up the good work and don't worry!

Hi - a bit of a belated response! I’ve had cause in the past to get fret end fine tuning done on new Andersons and Eggles so I can sympathise with Richard on this one. It reminds me of the "old days" when we sold starter packs. I would tell people that the packages you buy from shops are a nightmare because its impossible to unwrap the guitar from its packaging without destroying all the pretty outer wrapping. The customers would say "Why on Earth would you want to take it out the box? No other store have told us its a problem!?" I would spend my days banging my head against the desk.

My friend, the Meistergitarrenbauer, just came by to pick up my new E10-OM. He's doing a setup for me, which includes full fret-dress, nut filing, saddle and strap pin installation. He gave the guitar a once over while he was here, and told me a couple of the frets were not crowned properly. I know he'll get it right, but here's the thing: I've had issues with two Eastmans previously, both instances included frets that felt like falling down the stairs as I played runs up the neck. Both got sent back to where I bought them. The first, in 2010, was a AC412. Bad frets, neck angle was low by about 2 mm, and it sounded utterly dead. The second was an E10-SS, and the frets were bad on that, as well. I will be getting this guitar back next week, then I will write a thorough review on it, someplace or other.

Richard, I don't understand the "hate mail" , but I do understand people's concern. I would love a T58-V , I haven't played one , but compared to a modern day Gretsch they seem to be amazing . At first I thought wow , how much for a Chinese guitar?? , but once I read more about the company and the fact they are made by luthiers rather than unskilled assembly line workers in a sweat shop, it makes sense. The fact that you and your tech don't leave anything to chance ,but actually take care to make sure everything is super smooth playable is admirable . I bought new guitars in the last 10 years from Sound Control, Reverb & PMT ...those giant retailers could & should learn a lot from you.

I really don't understand some people. Checking a guitar is set up perfectly, and making any necessary minor adjustments to ensure it arrives to suit a customer's specific requirements, is true " customer care " - anyone who could refuse this service must be barking mad, in my opinion. I recently purchased an Eastman AR503CE ( not from you Richard but from another outstanding shop ) and I received the same degree of care and attention you give your customers. I was even asked if I had a preferred brand and gauge of strings. I said I was happy to try the strings which came with the guitar and I would " experiment " with flat wounds and round wounds to determine which suited me best. The guitar arrived via courier and is pure perfection in every regard. My conclusion is : there are some totally legitimate people out there ( yourself included, Richard ) who go that extra mile simply because you care passionately about guitars and musicians. Respect x

Surely this is BS?There's no way you can compete on price against the online retailers, let alone the likes of PMT or Andertons. Only way you can make a viable business in this day and age is through superior service, which is what you do. Throwing in a set up makes a lot of sense. My Gibson which, was a steal from my local PMT, unsurprisingly, played like a dog out of the box. Obviously, their plec machine was hung over the day my baby went through, as was the person on QC. Nice of Gibson to give me a photo of my guitar sitting on a hung-over tech's bench. Cost me another £100 and a trip across town (twice) to get it playable and feeling like a quality guitar should. I'd have been a much happier camper if they had an in-house tech and put the cost of the set up and fettle on the purchase price. As I've stated in previous posts; I'm saving my pennies for a high-end Eastman/middling Furch. It'll be a once in a lifetime purchase for me and those pennies will be spent at R Guitars in another year or so. I like supporting the little guy, I like the idea of actually getting customer service that doesn't end when the machine accepts my card details and I really like the idea of being able to discuss just how I want my guitar set up so that, when I do finally open the case for the first time and savour that nitro magic, from the first (inevitable) G chord, I'm going to be delighted and the sacrifice to afford it worthwhile. That's got to be worth the premium of buying here instead of a disinterested online retailer, surely?

Its amazing how these little refinements can really make a big difference and turn a good or even great guitar into something amazing.

Richard, what are your thoughts about an Eastman guitar vs a Furch guitar in terms of sound quality? I have played several Eastman's before (and was quite impressed), but never a Furch. I am debating between an Eastman E8D or E20D or a used Furch D31. I don't mind spending a little extra on the Furch. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I would assume, rightly or wrongly, that a company who adores guitars and wishes to give its customers the very best purchasing experience ( including the minutest detail of a " perfect " set up ) would be THE company to select when we are spending our hard earned money on an instrument we have completely fallen in love with. Forgive my naivety but surely, even the most exquisite guitars, lovingly crafted by the most passionate luthiers, may have overlooked a minuscule detail, which, under the closest scrutiny can be addressed before the instrument arrives in the hands of the " smitten " excited, owner. I know, with 100% conviction, that Richard is driven by a true and honest love for guitars and, most importantly ; guitarist's. His pursuit of perfection is not a slur on any company's product ( watch his video's, his excitement regarding great products is undeniable ) His only concern is ; eliminating any potential disappointment in the acquisition of the perfect guitar for a customer. I SALUTE YOU RICHARD 🙏

My first thought on hearing about this was that it doesn't square with the impression I got from watching several of your Eastman-related YT videos that these guitars come from the factory "perfect". I've bought most of my guitars on Reverb (used) and none of them had been misrepresented - I understood what I was getting. I also understand that any dealer who wants to stay in business, much less to grow it, has to send the best possible product out the door every single sale. Having said that, there is so much hyperbole and outright BS in marketing and advertising these days that it's getting difficult to trust anything these days.

It’s strange because I presented all those videos and don’t actually ever remember saying such a thing and wouldn’t be so naive to say something that is frankly disingenuous - because despite being a top 3 dealer in Europe I can tell you now our quality control rejects a broad spectrum of their guitars over any one year. Our quality control is second to none and I get really upset with uk dealers who suggest they set up their guitars when in reality they don’t - their next day delivery is a simple guide to confirm this.

I think there's an understandable mentality that once a guitar has left the factory doing anything to it feels like it's not going to be the same guitar any more. It's like we put the companies who manufacture the guitars on pedestals and we choose them over anyone else. We're never stuck for choice so if someone wants an Eastman they want the Chinese workshop and their crew to do everything. If someone else is doing the work then the mystique, the reason for going with Eastman is somewhat ruined. I personally don't mind at all. I'd rather the guitar was the best it could be, but I can understand why some are not so keen on it.

I am always very pleased when a luthier job is done on a guitar that I buy, otherwise I will have to do it on my own anyway. Fret sprout happens independ from how big the brand name is, because the neck wood may shrink during transportation. Especially when it's coming from a different continent. So a final inspection is a very kind service one should be thankful for. And one should really trust on the shop's expertise or go somewhere else. Please carry on doing it.

The comments you had on this subject, are the same as you might expect from an amateur or even a non musician, I am 66 and have always had top of the line guitars, flippin' loads of them over the years. When I had my 1st Gibson SG std in 1972, nobody did setups, the guitar was so bad I took it to John Birch , who had John Diggins sort out the frets. For the last 20 years I've had seven guitars set up by Bob Barry, even though I no longer live in Birmingham. the truth is, all new guitars that are factory produced, will need something sorting. Richard, I like what you do, and wish I had met a dealer like you, all those years ago. Top Man and Top Service. I hope in my retirement that I may wrangle another guitar, but things are tight now. Good Luck and maybe I walk through your door and meet you. Nigel

I have spent 10's of thousands on guitars (think Imelda Marcos and guitars) - I have been playing for 30 odd years and every time I have bought a guitar online the set up has been well ........ Pure shite (Irish Expression) and we are talking guitars at £3500 It's a shame you can't get me an ESP USA Eclipse - I would rather pay you a decent profit than buy cheap and send to a luthier (Ex Lowden Ernie McMillen charges a lot but is a perfectionist and takes weeks to get the job done ) (guitar techs are again (pure shite) over here) Thanks for your professionalism - some day folks will catch on that the quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten

Everything can be improved. There is no such thing as perfection, plus what I may alter, or not, in a set up is my personal choice. Very few people have, in my experience, a fixed set up that they demand apart from a few very seasoned pros. One personal example.... Rolled fretboard edges... I don't get it, maybe how I hold the neck but I never really feel them etc so personally I never bother with it where as others take the sandpaper to ever new guitar they buy as soon as they get it home. So two things I'm saying is firstly if I bought a £5000 Lowden from you (actually anybody at that price) I'd expect a set up. That fact you do this on a £300 Vintage tele is in the modern retail age phenomenal. Second there is no such thing as the perfect setup there's always the closest compromise to what you want. Ideally yes I agree with the coming to the shop playing it and specifying the setup you want.

I now own a SB59Varnish and a T185mx blonde which were so good that they needed nothing however frets oxidize sitting in a case or rack and indeed the frets on both were much smoother and brighter after a polishing, the ends were really good the only other thing l did was raise the tail peice to get the strings off the back corner of the bridge. Not for a second do l believe Eastman sent these handmade instruments out of their factory like that, l bought them used and lm sure the previous owners tightened them down to the deck. As far as shaving a fret end..l live in Miami where the air is always above 80% humidity, the woods on guitars logically expands due to the extra moisture vs say.. Arizona where its quite the opposite, having next to no moisture and drying out the woods of a guitar you will be much more prone to fret sprout. That being said it might be to the best interest of the guitar to leave that one area of the guitar to the new owner, it is an Eastman afterall.. mine both own beautifully dressed frets from top to bottom. It is because of your enthusiasm during your reviews of the Eastman guitars.. as well as many others that l bought a $2000 guitar without ever seeing one in person and all l can say Richard...is THANK YOU! As l said earlier..l own not 1 but 2 Eastman now. The SB59 is a custom shop version of the guitar it was inspired from, l would NEVER pay extra for anyone to abuse a finish and call it "Custom Relic"..l do not like these finishes on a guitar myself but the SB is so real, so authentically faux aged you truly feel its a very cared for and carefully played 59 single cut, the T185mx bd is simply a WORK OF ART! Have not seen a 335 that can compare..its that simple.

Hi Richard, It's a strange attitude but I've heard similar before. I've known people to try a guitar in a shop, love the way it plays and feels and then insist that the shop gets them a boxed one from the back that's never been opened to buy. It's like their view is that anything other than a sealed box and a guitar that hasn't been touched is 'second hand' or devalued in some way. I can imagine those people would feel the same if the frets had been 'altered' from what came from the factory. It's totally illogical when it comes to buying guitars of course and buying a guitar is not like buying a TV.

I then spend another 20 minutes explaining the virtues of being able to buy the one we KNOW is perfect rather than the russian roullette of one that is in a box! Hi Chris. It is EXACTLY this kind of comment that I find so incredibly distracting. I tend to listen to this kind of comment and presume it is the norm - I then become insecure and question my own service - hence I do a video on it and see what others think. Thankfully it does genuinely seem your views are hopefully in the minority. It doesn't make them any less valid to yourself and I understand its "your truth". Can you see the way you are writing your reply is highly flammible? I don't know if its deliberate? It does at least show others the kind of communication I receive on forums and the like - hence why I don't use them any more. So let me take you through what I see in your reply. "My view"... I do accept that its your view - not fact but your view which I hope I can change as its based on mis-information. "If a guitar of that price needs fretwork"..... Did I say at any point it "needs" fretwork. What does it mean to be "needing" fretwork? Maybe you could explain? The entire point of the video was to explain it didn't "NEED" fretwork but ANY work carried out on frets has the potential to improve something. If the time is being given to the guitar ANYWAY we may as well look over the frets and make improvements where necessary. This does not mean that it "NEEDED" the work or guitar was inferior in any way. I understand someone misunderstanding from the Facebook post but I have just posted an entire video even running my hands down the fretboards demonstrating the frets are not "poor" but ALL guitars can be improved on if we are going to be spending the time on the guitar ANWAY. Does that not make sense? I do hope so as I would feel a lot better knowing you know the reality and you haven't misunderstood the videos message. "then it is poor work by the factory and I would not even consider buying it". Hopefully I have already explained that this is not the case. However if you still hold the view despite the facts presented - Well I suppose if 99 people have their mind put at rest that we bother to do what we do to EVERY guitar REGARDLESS of price and ONE is totally put off by it - maybe thats the price I pay for my specialism. "Taking a file to it is madness" Well thankfully Chris this too is just your opinion and I will take my 24 years in the industry, witnessing tens of thousands of production guitars, setting them up, improving them and the thousands of testimonials that suggest my customers have LOVED what we supply them as MY OPINION and one I will follow on this occasion. I am sorry if you find it off putting.

Well Richard, I seem to have rattled your cage but it was not my intention to provoke. You have been selling instruments for 24 years, I have been buying them for 50 years. My collection of guitars covers all price ranges, from under 110 pounds to over 4,000 pounds and from 1979 to this year. My experience is that price means little when it comes to quality. When I buy a low cost instrument I expect that there will be imperfections, when I pay big money I expect perfection and 2,227 pounds I call big money. I am not saying your service is bad, I am not saying that your work is poor. I am saying if the fret ends or any other part of an expensive guitar are not to the highest standard from the factory, then that factory is poor. We are talking here about an instrument made in China. This guitar costs more than the Gibson model it is basically copied from. Gibson are routinely slammed for their poor QC. I own two high end Gibson's and yes, there are tiny flaws and I think for the price, there should not be any. I worked in manufacturing all of my working life. I have seen that when small items of quality are allowed to slip, big ones soon follow. If I put myself in your position, selling what I claim are top quality guitars, no matter where they came from and I feel something as basic as fret finishing has not been completed to my satisfaction I would be on the phone in an instant. When you buy a solid body guitar you are basically buying some wood, wires, and electrics plus a case if you are lucky and what separates the wheat from the chaff is the standard of craftsmanship in the production and the quality of the materials. If either of those is not of the highest standard you might as well buy an Epiphone or other "lower quality" brand. I understand you feel you have your reputation to protect but I think you should see I was not attacking you, I was attacking companies that release products that are not at the price they are asking, up to scratch. Calm down man!

@@chrisjeneson5091 Chris. You have been buying guitars for 50 years but don't know how much a Gbson J200 costs? You will be paying +£4000 for a guitar that doesn't have the fraction of the detail of the Eastman. So for example it wont be adirondack spruce. It won't have flame maple bindings - it certainly won't have the multi layered inlays - you will get one inlay cut out of one piece of shell - nothing like the same level of exquisite detail. It will also be lower quality maple and build like a plank by people who most likely hate their employer. To even compare this guitar to en Epiphone... well... we are on different conversations maybe. So maybe considering the facts a £2000 guitar made to such IMMENSE quality, specification and detail to a way higher standard than a Gibson at HALF the price of the Gibson may ..... just MAY be allowed a tiny knot in the finish in a rather hard to see area? Baring in mind that EASTMAN THEMSELVES have immediately offered to swap the guitar. That is INCREDIBLE ..... MIND BLOWING service. Gibson? Would they do that for you on your £4k guitar when you tell them the strings are falling off the neck? I will tell you now - they don't.

What is all this about Gibson J200? I was under the impression we were discussing a solid body guitar modelled after a Les Paul costing more or less the same price as the equivalent Gibson. I have no idea about acoustic guitars, nor am I interested, I play a Harley Benton Jumbo on the rare occasion I cannot get power to run an amplifier. I think in your outrage you are completely missing my central point. I will state it again. A guitar costing over 2,000 pounds should have perfect frets, If the shop selling it feels the need to file the frets then it is poor work from the factory. I think from what you say about a tiny knot you are mixed up with that blond guitar from a different video. I agree, it was madness to refuse that instrument because of a knot, it is wood for goodness sake, wood has knots. Personally I would have liked it even more for it´s "mole". So, please check your facts, are we talking about the same guitar or not?

Well. Essential quality managrment for every production or retail shop should be quality intake inspection and provide improvements, or rejects if needed, to any quality instrument. In any Industry. In this Internet day and age it is one of the few and essential ways to provide added value service to your shops or companies 😀 succes. And newly built guitar instruments are living things that are drying, setting and adjusting to it s new, local (shop) climate. So a neck might ben or warp a little, frets might move in thr fretboard, fretboard wood might wetten or dry and extend or shrink. Every succesful guitar shops might be tempted to push guitar delivery and shorten dry time. My Eastman 486b was set up fine, but needed some adoption to my low action playing style. Aad from HiGain the Netherlands did just that very good. And Ive brought every instrument I own to Aad at HiGain.Dueseys, Epi, Hagstroms and my Fender Tele Everyone came back way way better and they weren t bad in the first place. A good setup really improves playing fun, finesse and with that, also tone.
