The thing about the Englund is that it is mostly a trap opening, so if your opponent knows the line, then you end up in a worse position, which is why the computer evaluates it as a losing opening move. Sorry I went full nerd there

Englund works because of one trap, if White player knows how to deal with that trap, Black is in serious trouble especially if played in a GM level

@@manfrom20xx13 actually two traps. First one is 1. d4 e5 2. dxe5 Bc5 3. Nf3 d6 4. exd6 Ne7 5. dxe7 Bxf2! 6. Kxf2 Qxd1. The second one is a wider and more known trap 1. d4 e5 2. dxe5 Nc6 3. Nf3 Qe2 4. Bf4 Qb4+ 5. Bd2 Qxb2 and if they play Bc3 you play Bb4.

@@wicked5999 it is a refuted opening but I love playing with it. i play rapid with it at a 1750 rating but if a person knows how to avoid some of the opening traps they are good but you can very easily launch an attack on their kingside with your light-squared bishop and queen
