This movie scared TF outa me as a child. Seeing this in the 80s on cable in the middle of the night at 9 yrs old was terrifying

Not just one of my favorite Slashers but one of my favorite films. Very creepy foreboding atmosphere. I love all the foreshadowing, the score, and the slow burn. Even though it don’t really contribute much to the plot, I love the scene with Marco the Magnificent. Tobe Hooper’s directing is top notch and a very likeable group of teens. The novelization has more interesting backstory and violence.

I thought the movie was fun. Even though it drags for a little bit before it gets interesting. The score was good too especially the opening & ending credits.

The book is better, but fun fact the book was written after the movie(a weird switch up from movies based on books or short stories) by dean koontz.

I rented this movie years ago and fell asleep watching it.

Awesome I Remember Seeing This Film Back 2009 On My DVR In My Older Brothers Room When I Was Living With My Mom In My Old Neighborhood In Mount Vernon NY God Rest Her Soul . I Never Saw This Film Or Grew Up Or Born In The 80s But Even Tho 1992 Was The Year I Was Born in November 30th. Back In 2008 Is Where I Saw The Trailer Of This Film on my older brothers computer and That Was During my 2nd High School Year and Until 2009 I Saw it On TV and Recorded It On My DVR. But Aside Awesome Review.

The monster in the movie though not said in the movie was named Gunther i think ive read it in and old Fangoria Mag about The Funhouse.

After recently getting back into collecting horror vhs again I watched this one tonight for the first time. As soon as it ended my first thought was, let’s see if Bloodbath has a review up for this one and you delivered! Always wait to watch reviews until after I’ve seen the movie if I haven’t already

The first time I watch this movie it was the early 90's I was not in school yet and I remember being creeped out from the animatronics in the beginning of the movie

Great job on the review, Jay and John. I agree that The Funhouse was a bit of a letdown. The carnival setup gave it a good start, but the film felt more like "Something Wicked This Way Comes" than a slasher film. Maybe Tobe Hopper was trying to make a serious thriller. Universal gave him a decent budget and good character actors like Sylvia Miles and Keven Conway, but the project just went bad. I wouldn't be surprised to hear if The Funhouse title was part of Universal's marketing department.

"Alive, Alive, Alive." (and) Boobs on a cutie (She is sooo cute!). One of my favorites now. Marko did a great job at creating a fright. The shower scene was scary because you didn't know what to expect. The old man in the truck with the gun---amazing! That was so hilarious. There were a lot of funny looks and quotes. I loved it. I give you a thumbs up because you are right on all your points. I give it 9 of 10 because of so many funny and memorable scenes.

I saw Raiders of the List Ark, this and Porky's in 81 at the drive end. I was 3. I think my mom was hoping me and my sister would be asleep after Raiders. She was wrong

I rented this on VHS when it was first released, and then bought a boxed Original, as I enjoyed it, and it still is in my private collection of 5000+ titles, I agree it has good atmosphere, and there are some drawn out moments of them doing not much, but the monster make up for the time it was made was what stood out to me, as it was a great look, I would rate this 6 out of 10, over all. and say it is worth a watch. interestingly I wrote a voice over narration for one of the two the trailers for this film, which I still remember, and do have a copy of on VHS somewhere in my collection, "The Carnival has come to town, and everyone loves THE FUNHOUSE, Everyone is going to have the time of their lives, but not everyone will leave with their lives. not after what they see, in THE FUNHOUSE, Pay to get in, Pray to get out, Of THE FUHOUSE, Carnival of Terror"

Do you guys do foreign movies? I just watched an Argentinean gem called The Last Matinee, seems like something this channel could have fun with. You guys are right. The Funhouse is mid. It's not necessarily a BAD horror movie, but it underdelivers on its promise.

It's not horror but ya'll should review The Slammin' Salmon. That movie is some funny ass shit and it's from the crew that did Club Dread

I saw it once and hated it. Then I saw it again recently and had mixed thoughts. The Funhouse seems to be less of a reference to an actual funhouse and more of a larger theme on the “funhouse” of “freaks” in suburban life in that time period. The weird second half seems to be a throwback to the melodrama of low budget monster movies in the 50’s/60’s, which would kinda take it out of the slasher realm. Which I also attributed to the final girl being more helpless like a damsel from way back. I didn’t think about/notice the mom drunk thing, I imagine that would just be another one of the “attractions” of funhouse American life. With all that being said and me finding those things interesting…doesn’t mean it’s entertaining. I like the first half more than the second.

A major theme of the movie is punishment for immoral, dishonest, and antisocial behavior. This is why the victims are unlikable. Few redeeming qualities. The Friday the 13th movies of the time had the same theme.

Great review as always, but I gotta say that I don't think you're helping your views by just calling the channel BTV. I know it's called Bloodbath TV in the videos themselves, but when people are scrolling around on KZfaq and they see BTV it doesn't really give them a clue about what you do on the channel. I do love the channel and I want you guys to get the audience you deserve!

The book was a hook it was a movie an and Fangoria was huge I actually had a subscription They made movies seem bigger and I loved it It isn't the same now Oh dashcam/insertnewBS/insert foundfootage/insertjumpscares/ This shit is garbage and i bought the book at 2.50 because I was bought in I was so disappointed seeing this as a fucking kid So I had just saw Alien the year before lmao

The novelization is weird too. The mom’s alcoholism is pretty much there because she had another son, which was the monster. Just a lot of weird shit in the novel and boredom in the movie
