As a prepper/bushcrafter it is important to have confidence in my equipment I use everyday. I wanted to test the GeoPress with a before and after bacteria test. Join me as I test the GeoPress at different river systems in my area.

Putting the GeoPress on the ground and using two hands to leverage bodyweight makes it much easier to filter. Plus loosening the cap as Trooper said. Loving this channel - keep up the good work!

Taking the cap off is required. Have to allow the air to escape to make room for the water.

I realize that we don't know each other and I want to comment on your bugout bag video, just haven't had the time yet. Please understand that I mean NO disrespect, I just want to help people who are beginning their journey into prepping, bushcraft and/or survival. I was an Eagle Scout, Airborne Ranger, Sheriff Deputy and current first responder team leader. I also teach preparedness, bushcraft and survival. I have been using a Grayl Geopress for a couple of years and yes it works great, they are also one of the few filters that prevents virus contamination. To use the Geopress first loosen the cap so that the air can escape, then press the bottle down with both hands. Bugout bags should have multiple ways of treating water, to include purification with chemicals or ultraviolet light, disenfecting wiith heat by boiling (with a single wall bottle or cup) and filtering like with the Grayl.

Also a Millbanks bag for prefiltration! With a shoulder strap w/velcro and caribiner you can double attach the millbanks to the outside of the geopress! When hiking/camping I always carry sawyer, iodine crystals, chlorine as well. Sometime the geo filters are on sale for 24.00 instead of 30.00. I like to pick up a couple when they are.

As well as opening cap 1/2 to 1 turn, place press on the ground and use body weigh with both palms on either side between lid and handle. Also you can use food grade silicone grease $5-6.00 tube very lightly on the gasket/seal to make it easier. DO NOT USE ANY TYPE OF OIL it will destroy any filltration systems. I have a spinal cord injury and this is how I do it . 😏

The Geopress fits nicely into the Stanley 2-cup Cook set (WalMart $15) if you leave the cups at home and set the Stanley in one of WalMart's Stainless Steel ($5) cup, which the Stanley's lid will also fit. There is room to slide 4 or 5 ladies' knee-high nylons (20 for $7) over the Geopress, then use one of them fitted inside the outer shell to pre-filter. I carry mine in an Orca (Amazon $22) Tactical Water Bottle pouch which gives me room for an Esbit Stove and fuel, a stainless spork, a Ferro Rod, a Hot Lips pad for drinking from the hot cup, and a plastic bag with coffee, tea, bouillon powder, matches, salt and pepper.

Yes the purchase price is steep .. think about this what if you was possibly 3 days out from home like I find myself often .. due to circumstance I may wish to remain covert in my journey home .. boiling may not be an option ,, waiting 30 minutes for tablets may not be an option ..the grayl is right now and highly effective .. how ever I do keep those alternatives as a ready option also .. forgot to sub earlier .. if you’re interested check out South Georgia budget bushcraft ,, I’m an admin there .. we would like to have you aboard ,, and you can most certainly share your videos there

Bro I like your channel, watching you use the geo press was painful. I have 3 of them all for different bags and now the full size titanium. You have to open the lid when you press so it’s not that hard. Think about , watching a grown man press that hard … many women or younger kids could never use it. Therefor they would only market to men? No. I did the same thing but went back and watched videos and fig it out. Anyway, that’s all. Not talking sht or anything. A few suggestions for your videos which may help. Get a mic with a wind shield or film the talking bits inside. I know you said it might make it more interesting doing it in the field but with the wind, jars rolling and etc it didn’t have the desired effect. Also what test strips were you using? Info would allow people to research them and see the conditions for use, effectiveness etc. You should have done 5 sites as the more data you have the more validity the results. Small data sets don’t really tell you much and don’t allow for margins of error etc. A map showing where you took the samples from would also have been useful. Farmland, urban, industrial areas will have different pollutants and different levels. The cold water may have had an effect as it the low temperature limits bacterial growth. The test strips were hard to see so a better explanation of what we were looking at would have been nice. You said it was faint so possibly the cold had an effect? With low levels of bacteria the Grayl may have been ok with higher levels who knows? Also bacteria is only one contaminant that can cause problems. You mentioned viruses, chemicals, heavy metals which can all cause you to get sick. Maybe you could have sent off water samples to test for other pollutants? Just some thoughts and not meant to sound negative, apologies if it does. I’ve watched a few of your other ones and I like them.

Your mason jar is cool in all but there’s a better way. Get you a millbanks bag and a hank of paracord and tie it to the grommet. You can grab a liter of water in hard to reach places buy throwing it or lowering it down to the source. Then reel it back in and hang it up. The sediment will naturally fall and you can pour the clear water off the top into the geopress. For me waiting for the water to drip through the canvas bag takes way too long. Check it out and enjoy.

If you loosen the cap a bit as Dade says he did and several suggested AND put it on the ground to press, you do not need much muscle power, just keep your arms extended and use body weight not strength to push. I did it half way down on the counter and then tried the floor the rest of the way; the latter is much easier. I have only had the Grayl Ti Ultrapress for a short while and have been trying it, to familiarize myself with it, before I need it. By the way, since you mention South Florida, I'll note that we live in SE Florida. Our daughter tried it and she found the same thing.

I think the price tag is a big bargain. The other lower priced filters simply can not compete with what the GP does. Have to compare apples-apples. And what price can you place on clean water to drink.

Then with the ionizer test where you put 2 electrodes in the water it didn't do any better than the tap water... The zero water filter by contrast did very well. I searched the KZfaq for similar test and apparently no one is doing this.
