My daughter's GTX 970 works fine in 1080p with the Ryzen 7-1700.

I bought a 980 ti some three weeks ago and the thing is a complete beast, it runs anything I throw at it in ultra/epic settings on 1080p resolution at an average of 110~120 fps. They're still a bit pricey considering that the 2060 and 1660 ti deliver comparable performance and are newer for not much of a difference in price, but if that's all you can afford, go for it, I was stuck on a 560 ti for five years and a 770 for two years no problem, this thing can live another five years easily.

I have a reference 980 but with one of the arctic accelero cooler and it stays super cool now

I've still got my gtx 980 from 2016. This thing can even run Modern Warfare 2019 on most ultra settings :)

I had a GTX 980 up until 2 weeks ago. Did a great job, even in 1440p. Should be even better in just 1080p. Great value, since you can get it for like 120$ now.

I bought a GTX 980 in the summer of 2015 for £390. Now I look at the newest 80 series cards the 2080 super and it costs £720. WHATTTTT!

I'm on a 980ti here. The 9 series is the last gen that supports VGA through DVI-I, and therefore is the last one that supports my trusty old CRT. Yes, you can get HDMI/DP->VGA DACs, but they suck. They're all cheap crap from China that limit your refresh rate to 60hz and often (as I've found in personal experience) don't even work right.

My laptop has 1060 6gb, very happy with it.

I had my 980 for years and will be retiring it soon. Its was the best 600 i ever spent.

I happen to own a (lightly used) GTX 1060 6GB. Since you stated the performance between it and the GTX 980 would be similar, I appreciate the fact that you provided such a variety of titles in your video. I don't happen to own many (if any) of these titles, but my experience with my card seems to be similar to what you have shown. When it comes to buying your card over the one I happen to own, other than price and aesthetics, something else to consider is the power consumption and driver support. It is likely that the GTX 1060 6GB will have driver support for a while longer than the GTX 980. Granted, support for 600 and 700 series cards is still available, but the support would last longer for the 1060 6GB over the 980. Also, since the 1060 is based on a newer architecture, it will almost always be more power efficient to a similar spec card from an older generation. But that's just my two-cents worth.

I run SLI 980 TIs, got the matched set used for under $450us on eBay. Very good cards. Single gpu is slightly slower than a GTX 1070. Only down side is the huge power requirements.

My ZOTAC AMP EXTREME! 980ti is as fast as a founders edition 1080. Runs at 1445 mhz, as opposed to stock of 1100 mhz. Excepting the architecture of Pascal, I'm absolutely happy with this card.

If you want MSI Afterburner to work on Apex just turn off origin overlay, set an Hotkey to turn on and off the MSI overlay and it works. This is how I fix it for me.

5:20 There is nothing wrong with 100% or close to that in GPU usage, it's in fact what you want, it means it's being fully utilized. It is of course the opposite when it comes to the CPU. Then there's the case of, If the CPU is not at 100% but you can't get a high usage out of the GPU either then the problem is the software/game in those areas.

I've got a reference OC'd 980 in my HTPC/gaming rig coupled with a Ryzen 5 1600 OC'd to 3.8ghz. This pair does excellent at 4K@30fps, 1440p@60fps, or 1080p@90+ fps with a mix of high/ultra settings in virtually any AAA game I throw at it. I picked it up early last year used for $160 when comparable 1060 6GB cars were going for well over $300. I love it!

Please keep the real time statics! That card is actually better than I first thought in 2019, it would run my games really well.

I recently made a video of me using the 970 4gb at 1080p and I really had the same results i bought it for 75 it almost beats the rx580 an excellent video love the videos man!!

GTX 980 doesn't support FreeSync while the GTX 1060 does.

for overwatch, did you make sure the settings didnt automatically scale the resolution up? it would do that for me when i had that card and made 1080p look nicer with a 125% scale.

My dad still has a Reference GTX 980 - I was able to OC it to run at 1492 MHZ pretty solid with only small dips down to 1476 MHZ core. This is up from the stock boost of only about 1290 MHZ - I then OCed the VRAM to 7.8 Gbps - because Elpida GDDR5 sucks and cannot hit 8 Gbps - and this made a HUGE difference in frame rates! *OC that 980 and see not only significantly higher Average FPS, but MUCH improved 1% lows! I know this from first hand experience m8* Basically he gained a solid 25% total in speed, which lead to an average of about 18% more performance in games and benchmarks! I wish I had saved the FireStrike results from before and after I tweaked and OCed his GTX 980, but he did gain over 1500 points in GPU score - more actually IIRC!

Ah the GTX 980! I am currently using this and have been using this card for years! This thing can handle 1440p gaming with some titles and even some newer titles today! It ran borderlands 3 1440p with a cross of high and medium settings. I love the GTX 980, One of the best cards Nividia has released.

My EVGA gtx 980 SSC FTW just will not die, bought it in mint condition like 4 years ago, i can run alot of games at 1440p at high settings 50-60 fps. Waiting for rtx 1070 ti or 2060 to come down.

I got the EVGA hybrid edition of the 980 TI for 170$ here in Arizona, I love how it looks! It's like the reference edition but beefed up with the AIO pipes coming out the side, and the really nice backplate!

I purchased my first ever nvidia card in 2019; beforehand, I had purchased ati/amd cards from 2002. Unlike ati/amd cards, I'm just amazed at the staying power of nvidia cards in its ability to play modern titles.

Fun fact about the reference card 980. From factory it's fan speed is limited to 50% until it hits 80c then it comes out of boost and sometimes even throttles reducing performance quite a bit. A simple fan tweak to hit 80% at 80c (which obviously makes it louder) but gives it about 10-15% better performance and with an overclock, at least on mine 20-25%

The specs you are running are identical to my rig, and I considered far cry 5 and decided to wait till I upgrade. After seeing that 60+fps on ultra, I'll buy it tomorrow.

My GFs 980ti is still gettin it on in 2022. She games at 1080p and has 0 problems playing any games she wants at high settings, while still getting 60fps on average.

Just inherited this exact card for free and it's running games like Tomb Raider and Doom at 60fps on Ultra settings. Very happy coming from a 960.

I bought the 980 tii for $700 back in 2015 and I can play any game at max settings without any problems... the card will NEVER overheat.. and its always silent... its one of the best Nvidia has ever made.

Is it worth in 2019 ? Man I don't even have a video card I'll take what I can get.

Seeing some numbers on the screen is actually a quite welcome feature.

I got a founders edition 1070 on launch. First time iv ever bought a gpu on launch but I was sold on the whole "faster than a titan x" marketing. I also wondered whether I would regret not waiting for a custom card. Anyway, 3 years later and it overclocks like a champ and still kills it at 1440p and im very happy with my purchase.

Honestly, I like both the live stats and the static ones you put from an overall. While the live stats are overall better, I still enjoy seeing the work you put into the videos as well. (Not that I think you're working less by not putting your own static overall lol)

I have a 980 reference card in my machine. Works great for 1080p, although some new games like control don't run that well unless I turn some settings down. I've had mine since 2014 and I love it.

Picked up my EVGA SC 980 months ago for $135 on auction, still going strong for its age. Not even CONSUMER overclocked and I can still manage 60+ fps in most new titles on medium-high settings (depending on the game's usage of CPU vs GPU of course).

There are some video cards that stand the test of time (i.e. 3+ years of use to be able to play modern titles of their times) such as my previous 2002 Radeon 9700 PRO, or Nvidia's 980ti or 1070. Thank you for previewing these types of cards. With respect to your question, I like the MSI display on the upper left, but please put average fps on the last row.

I havent seen the video, but I just came because the title, I actually use to play GTX580 CLASSIFIED, GTX780SC, GTX980 AND GTX980TI in my country we cant all afford newer cards but those I mention are still capable of kicking some asses

I have a GTX 980 Ti when OC'd and compared to an OC'd 1070 Ti It performs the same with a 1-5 fps difference I'm planning on running an SLI Setup with them.

Get the RX 570 or 580 for a fraction of a cost and call it a day. The Nvidia premium isn't worth it...

I mean it was once the best GPU on the market its bound to be future proofed and this just shows how much it really is. I have the 980 Armour 2x and it basically runs anything with great temps. Its had 2 previous owners before me and yet its still running strong love it.

bought a 980 strix the other day for $100 US and its a great card other than how loud they get at full tilt plays 1080p max settings on any game with a good frame rate. now a 1660 is $220 new making choices hard right now along with all the cheap RX cards $100-150 for a used 8Gb RX580. great video and personaly i like seeing the lows live to watch for dips or have confirmation of a stutter i though i saw but wasnt sure if that was the internet youtube or your capture card the game the card at least the numbers when i scrub back give me a reference point and i can ask dig it im going to sub and like for sure hope for more great content.
