The real interesting thing about Godzilla's Roar in this. Is that it was widely reused in other shows and mediums throughout the '80s and '90s and as far as the early '00s after 2005 better quality monster sounds and roars were used for shows, videogames, and movies. Despite this in many shows from Disney, Cartoon Network and Nick used this Godzilla's roar for anything that had a Big Giant Monster in the episode.

Honestly this series could work well if rebooted. The Hanna-Barbera Godzilla show is like a lump of clay shaped into Godzilla; adequate for it's time but lackluster in today's day and age. It just needs to be redesigned and refined into a solid, detailed sculpture that is definitely possible with the right materials.

Since Warner Bros. has been releasing a few of their classic cartoons under the Warner Archive label on Blu-Ray as of late, hopefully soon they can get in talks with Toho for a complete series Blu-Ray (or at the very least, DVD) restoration and release of this show. I’d buy it!

Funny thing, some of the adverts that Cartoon Network used for the show had the classic official roar, and it fits this design. The series is fine, nothing great, but nothing bad.

I kind of expected the other Godzilla series to win out, but damn, my hopes were high for King Kong Show. Both feel like the natural follow up to this series, but I suppose it makes sense to do this one first. (Tho I still argue the King Kong show should have been next). But I'm nothing if not patient, so I really hope to see it get a review on here before the year's out! It only makes me more excited! Not many people have really talked about it on here that much, which is a little disappointing. But hey, cheers to the winner, and I'm excited to see what's in store all the same!

Back in the late 70’s, this cartoon got me pumped for Godzilla, and it was probably a year later before I realized that it was based on a movie character that dated back to the 50’s. This was my gateway to Godzilla.

there's one thing that could and maybe should eventually be done is how did the crew of the callico and godzilla ever get together? what prompted the invention of the call box? it appears that while the crew are oceanic explorers and researchers, they are also a day care of sorts for godzookie. this seems to be the reason for the blond kid to be on the ship as a playmate for godzilla's adopted offspring.

The fire breath and laser eyes never bothered. My first Godzilla experience was actually the Trendmasters toys so I knew his breath weapon as the “Atomic Blast” from the toy packaging. I just always thought this Godzilla was different than the other.

6:33 A few years late to mention this, but according to Duane Poole (one of the show's writers, developers, and story editors), the reason why Ted Cassidy's growling were used instead of Godzilla's actual roars was because the makers thought Ted's growling had more emotion in them.

The Brock Sampson of Venture Brothers _might_ be a reference to the Brock of this show (and also godzilla) as the Venture Brothers is a parody of similar "boy adventurer" cartoons like Johnny Quest. Now that's an epik legacy.

Singular Point actually has an easter egg in Episode 6 which was hard to notice at first, but there was a scene with the kaiju plushies and Godzooky's there! Other plushies are references too, like Zilla, the Komodithrax and the giant turtle from Godzilla: The Series.

All 26 episodes of the Hanna-Barbera Godzilla have yet to be released on a complete DVD Set by the Warner Archive Collection. Like some of those other Hanna-Barbera Animated toons & Hanna-Barbera Animated Action Shows.

Growing up in the seventies, Saturday morning kidvid episodes were frequently rerun during a season, and, if a show was renewed for a second, they tended to commission fewer episodes and rotate in reruns from the first season, then rinse and repeat for future renewals.

Honestly I do remember watching it as a kid on Cartoon Network the early days of Cartoon Network I also remember later they got rid of the communicator and just flat out had godzuzy call him and they did make an amusing bumper about the show where they forgot to change the batteries .

My idea for a Godzilla film if I could make one would be a live-action version of this show. I would replace Godzooky with Godzilla Junior and the plot would be Godzilla appears for the first time, Destroys a major city and kills Pete’s parents in the process where his aunt Darian takes him in where she works onboard the Calico. They are recruited to track down Godzilla and eventually find an egg which hatches into a baby Godzilla and they decide to raise him. Years later, Godzilla Junior is like a pet to the crew and Godzilla reappears when a new monster (either Bagan or Destroyah) shows up to destroy the world. Godzilla and Junior then head on a collision course where Junior will have to choose between the father he never knew and his adopted human family before saving the earth from complete destruction. I would call this movie Godzilla: Calico

Having just watched the Showa movies before watching this I’m surprised they didn’t do the giant boulder back and forth volley gag. That would have held up pretty well in the censorship. At least the show is more entertaining then what I thought it would be.

I like this series I have the first 13 episodes on legit DVD. I just wish they'd put the other 13 episodes on DVD.

The Godzilla roar was used in Gaiking for the cartoon force five the flying dragon in the Japanese version but I didn't hear it in the American version when I heard it in the Japanese version I was shocked.

Kinda interesting to hear about how the series doesn't have a proper modern release and Toho basically ignores it, when now the official Godzilla KZfaq Channel has released all of the episodes for free

I loved this as a kid, in part because I loved animals and that's what I saw Godzilla and Godzuki as. Even as an adult (an OLD ADULT 🥴) I'd love to see a modern upgrade to this show. Giving the characters more personality, making Godzuki a more serious and productive character. Godzilla should keep an individual roar, but sound like a 30 story tall l monster, not a sleep deprived, grouching old man.

Here are my ideas for Toho Monsters that could have filled the roles of some of the original monsters in this show Firebird-Rodan for obvious reasons Eartheater- Baragon due to similar appearance and burrowing abilities Megavolt Monsters- Titanosaurus due to a somewhat similar appearance, aquatic nature and it would have been a cool reference to how there was going to be two Titanosaurus' Colossus- Moguera due to how he was the only Toho Robot at the time that somewhat matched the appearance of Colossus Great Watchuka- Ideally I'd say King Kong, but as that'd be incredibly difficult either Gaira based on appearance or King Caesar due to also being a guardian monster Time Dragon- Gorosaurus for obvious reasons Giant Octopus- Toho's Giant Octopus Power Dragon- King Ghidorah. The Power Dragon just needs to be yellow/gold and two more heads Giant Black Widow- Kumonga for obvious reasons

Nice followup on the episode reviews 😁👍🏼 And it’s a fair assessment, it’s really not a great show, but it does hold a lot of nostalgia for those of us who watched it back in the day, because in that time before the internet (and even before the rise of home video), ANY new Godzilla content was eagerly welcomed 😅 And unfortunately the series was also a product of its time: the Showa era films ended with Godzilla still perceived as a “good guy” and “strictly for kids”, with the largely cringeworthy G vs Megalon having recently solidified that view when it became a huge hit in the US. That, coupled with the fact that _most_ US cartoons at the time were rather bland and tame, pretty much guaranteed that HB’s take on the character would be as tepid as its contemporaries 😕 There were exceptions of course, but it wasn’t really until the early 80s that more “serious” cartoons like Thundarr and Blackstar started being produced in the US, which is probably why i preferred Battle of the Planets and Star Blazers over most domestic shows 🤔

Ted Cassidy did the voice of Godzilla ,he went on to do the roar of The Incredible Hulk TV series -the first series -it was'nt Lou Ferrigno!

Re serialized kids shows in the 70s: yep, it was a problem. We were lucky in our area that the two seasons of Star Blazers broadcast in our market half an hour before kids had to leave for school, were played in chronological order, so that if we missed an episode we had some idea from context and brief introductory recaps what had happened meanwhile. Otherwise we had to wait a hundred weekdays for the series to roll around again. (I assume Speed Racer had the same problem, but I didn't watch it as much so I never noticed any chronological continuity.) Land of the Lost on the other hand was a disaster!! -- it was never shown in chronological order, and the second season effectively took place between the last and next-to-last eps of season one anyway, so it was YEARS before I realized there might be an ongoing story there. The now classic DVD release (in that lunchbox case, which I yep had as a kid!) was a revelation of what I had started to suspect as a kid: the writers had indulged in a hard-edged science-fantasy epic with a developing survivalist plotline, mirrored unofficially today by the hit game ARK: SURVIVAL EVOLVED.

I was 3 1/2 when I first saw a Godzilla movie and I didn’t really speak much. But after I started talking, I payed attention about what people in the movies and on KZfaq and then I started saying atomic breath. So I big brain!

6:30 - I don't think it's odd at all that Hanna Barbera may not have had access to the original Godzilla roar sound effect. Often, licensing the trademark doesn't allow access to the movie assets; for example, many James Bond games didn't have access to the actor's likenesses. I'm not sure that's the case here, but it does happen, especially on franchise IPs. If this is the case - the real crime is that Toho didn't just let them use it for free; or rather, insist that HB use the original roar, to keep their branding consistent. Though I doubt many kids at the time (early 80s) had much exposure to the original movies; I grew up then, and was rabid about any kind of monster movies, but rarely was able to find them on TV.

The animation may be a bit on a date in the in the story maybe singular oh one thing you got to say about Anna Barbara's Godzilla is that it definitely introduced the character to a lot of people in a time where most media especially when they were not able to see most of the Godzilla movies because Japan wouldn't release them to a much wider audience, I know I watch this and I was okay during the reruns of the '90s especially when cartoon Network came out so this was my first introduction to the character and I'm not alone in that you can say that for Americans when they would think of Godzilla this was probably the first that came into their mind then the movies which helps because it gives the character more fans which interns make some more popular and have fans when to seek out more about Godzilla you don't want to rate this between a 1 and 10 ratio I think it probably maybe a six I'll probably rank a little higher from this I'll just say but I just don't want to sound bias because it's not the worst Godzilla but also not the best so yeah.

Here's the weirdness of the Godzilla cartoon as per using his copyright roar and other things..... It's true that Hanna Barbera couldn't use the roar due to copyright issues and though the argument can claim"well it's GODZILLA"which is true because of the name...Godzilla is the American version...GOJIRA is the Japanese version...yes it gets confusing as you get deeper into it.

Meanwhile, one odd legacy of the HB cartoon (along with the skin color) is that Marvel's Godzilla uses a (printed) version of Ted Cassidy's roar. MRAAAAWW!! GRAWWWW! I still like it much better than the (apparently Toho mandated?) Dark Horse comic "Skreeeeeonk", although that does remind me of the "honkers" from Gold Key's original run of Turok: Son of Stone. And I'd like to see the epic nuclear glare eyes of MarvelZilla return to an adaptation someday.

It always struck me as a Hanna-Barbera Cartoon. Personally, I thought it was at least related to the Herculoids as far as plot and characters went. The humans in that show didn't have much personality either. I also don't think that the monsters in the Herculoids had any good names (although they did seem to pay more attention to the names of the humanoid villains).

I remember watching this in the early 80's already being a Godzilla fan from the movies. I was immediately disappointed in the roar. It was sooooo wrong. I remember being down right angry with the fact that he shot lasers from his eyes too. Lastly, the iconic Godzilla music that I'd been hearing for the last 2 years at that time wasn't there. Lol. This was 5 year old me, not someone who has been watching Godzilla movies for years! I disliked it so much I remember avoided watching it when it came on TV.
