Agreed! Current owner of an '07 Fit. 250,000 miles, all stock, non-molested and still running strong. I ordered an armrest console kit because 1st gen Fits didnt come with an armrest. I still take mine on 10-15 hour road trips on top of traveling 80 miles round trip daily to work from Riverdale, GA to Roswell, GA via GA-400. Never broke down on me. Always have gotten me from point A to B.

Spot on, 2015 EX here, and every point is spot on. Major takeaways are the VTC actuator and avoiding the white paint. Avoid the white at all costs. One thing I’d add is the fuel rail went bad on mine and luckily was replaced under warranty. If the fuel rail goes bad and you have a bad VTC actuator. Definitely take advantage of the warranty and use that labor saved to replace the actuator. Also not really a fit thing but the keylight will intermittently turn on if you have a remote fab. Still love this car a lot.

A few people brought up the "Push Button Start Recall" in the comments. I have the base model FIT so I only wanted to mention things that I could relate too. Yours is manual too right? I've heard mixed reviews about CVT transmission. I think the CVT transmissions are just bad in general, no matter what car they're in.

I have two Fits, 2009 Sport Blackberry and 2013 Base Silver. We are so attached to our old cars and have named them Penelope and Sylvia. You are right on, the latches on both have busted or frozen up. Penelope 2009 has considerable rusting on the body near the rear passenger wheel. She still runs well, and I handed her down to my daughter for use at college. We are small size people so the seats may fit our stature better and are comfortable. Trying to get a few more years out of both cars. Maintenance at the 10+ year mark and 150-200K miles each is getting pricey, around $2K/year per car, but still good value. I have no doubt that I’ll buy a 3rd when I need to replace one, hoping I’ll be able to find one in good condition. I’m still in disbelief that Honda stopped US production. Thanks, from a Fit fan.

I named mine ASIMO after the Honda Robot. It stands for Advanced Step-in Innovative Mobility. I turned my Honda Fit into a car camper with a Solar Panel roof, a water tank bumper and few other overlanding features. I thought the name "ASIMO" FIT the car well, lol. Rear quarter panel rust is inevitable on Hondas. I have some too :( The rest of the car looks pretty good and I live in the MidWest. :) I was also wondering if the comfort of the seat had something to do with my height. I also spent a few thousand on maintenance at the 100k mile mark. It's been mostly fluid changes and tires in the past so I can't complain. Here's to many more miles in our FIT's!

About the seats: I bought an inflatable lumbar cushion, removed the air bladder, hooked it up to some sturdier (medical grade) piping and air pump (from a blood pressure cuff), unzipped the fabric from the back of the seat-back, and stuffed the air bladder between the springs and the foam. I now have adjustable lumbar support in my Honda Fit, and it looks totally factory (apart from the blood pressure cuff pump protruding from my seat), and combined with the (yes, QUITE expensive, but worth it) seat extenders, I would go so far as to call my Fit…comfortable..? Yeah! It’s comfortable!

@@HondaFit4Adventure I started off with just buying the inflatable lumbar cushion, but I wasn’t a fan of how it looked or felt, though it did provide the support in all the right places. And then I remembered my dad’s Explorer Platinum had adjustable lumbar and massage features s which worked by inflating and deflating air bladders inside the seats, and BEHIND the foam. The rest was easy as these cars are hilariously easy to take apart!

When a dealer gives me the "oh they all do that" run-around, I find a similar car, compare them, then ask what's wrong with that other one that does not have my problem. Harder to do now they stopped selling the Fit, but a Civic might be close enough. Also, yes, definitely record the sound. You can go to another dealer, contact Honda regional office, or if need be, pay for an independent mechanic to diagnose the problem. I once had to do that last one (not with Honda), then I brought the paperwork to the service manager at the dealer and asked to speak with his boss. Of course the higher boss was unavailable, but that was my opening to say "this is my final good faith attempt to get this resolved through your dealership." I thanked the service manager by name for his time, and told him to put his company's response in writing, and let's make an appointment to have the problem fixed under warranty. My casual non-confrontational attitude made it clear that my visit was just so I could claim I'd tried everything. They did fix the problem. They did not pay my diag costs at the other mechanic. That was good enough for me.

Lovely video!! I bought my 2015 Honda Fit LX with 0 miles on the odometer, now she has 106k. I've spent a little pretty penny on some much needed 100k+ maintenance, such as valve adjustments, new belts, water pump, etc. But soon I will have to make a commitment on the VTC actuator. There are days when the car makes a loud short rattle sound on a cold start. Interestingly there are days when nothing can be heard. However, I can't keep ignoring it, I still love the car and am not ready to trade it in so I guess I will have to pony up the money for the VTC actuator work. Great video, you have a new subscriber!

Thank you. Did your water pump go bad or did you just replace it at 100k. My mechanic didn't want to touch it if there wasn't an issue...(Shrugs shoulders) The VTC repair is pricey but definitely worth fixing instead of getting a newer car with more "Tech" related issues then mechanical. An infotainment centre went out on a friends vehicle which controlled the seat adjustments and HVAC controls. The dealership quoted $2000 to replace it. We purchased the part online for $800 but still had to take it into the dealer ship after installing because the infotainment centre required programming to talk to the cars computer first. THEY GOT US EITHER WAY :( #RightToRepair

I own my 3rd gen honda fit for 3 years already, and extremely love my fit cuz it is almost a perfect car for me. 1)Gas economy, 2)compact car size, 3)roomy inside, 4)good horse power for its light weight, 5)super flexible rear seats. I even converted it to a camper car so I can go camping during the weekend and sleep inside my honda fit. Yes, I love camping! I am 5' 7" tall regular size guy, my bed platform is made by 3 pieces of ply wood that can assamble together as a big flat surface, the bottom has a few piece of ply wood legs that is used for hold up and suppoert the bed surface. The bed is leveled at the same height as the armrest box. When I going to sleep, I have to folded the 2 front seats and push them all the way to front, and then I can put the bed all the way to back of the front seats so I can have a maximum space for sleeping inside. As a 5' 7" guy myself, I can lay down straight and sleep very comefortably inside. Since I go camping more and more, there are move and more place I want to go, and I realized that one thing this little buddy can not do, which is lacking of off-road capability, I know that I am asking too much from this guy, but I am such in love with this car, and hoping that if it has AWD, it would be a perfect car for me! However, I am now thinking to switch to a 4X4 or AWD for my next camper car build, do you have any off-road car suggetion that is good to the point 123 that I mentioned above?

I love camping in my Honda Fit too. It could be a little bit longer, but it works. Some Honda Fit owners have put larger tires and the Tema 4x4 kit on their car to give it a 2" lift. I'm a big Honda fan so anything I would recommend would be from the Honda line up. Quite a few come in AWD. I don't think Honda will be making a sprinter van any time soon so I'm hoping for a Hybrid Honda Odyssey.

2017 here. 245k miles. I'm just under 6 foot. Drive 8 hours per day. Seat does not create any back issues at all, after it is adjusted perfectly. I think people don't have the patience to do this. Before finding the perfect adjustment, I was having all sorts of back problems, numbness, and leg swelling. I know it is all adjustment related because it was fine for awhile. Then I had the silly idea I could adjust to make it even better. It wrecked it.. had to find the correct adjustment again and then it was fine.. again. Haven't had much of a vtc actuator issue. But it may be very cold temperatures dependent. It doesn't get cold in Southern California..

I've tried adjusting the seat but I haven't been able to find a good position yet. The VTC actuator would still make a noise in the warmer weather if the car sat long enough for most of the oil to drip back into the bottom. My Actuator failed under warranty, and then failed again within 10k miles and past the warranty. I didn't want to spend $1000 on something to fail again. They eventually redesigned the actuator and they seem to last much longer now. It looks like you got the redesign!

2016 EX here. I started hearing the rattling about 9 months ago. Researched in FitFreak site. Some guy said he got a discount from Honda of America. So I reached out to my local dealership. Even though I did not by directly from them (bought it used from another small time dealer), and it was just over the recall mileage/ or I think they said it didn’t apply for some other odd reason, they eventually paid for the replacement in total, sans the initial diagnostic fee ($250). Otherwise, they quoted me near $2k. But, sometimes I swear I can hear it starting to rattle again. In fact, I had also read someone else saying how they had gotten there’s replaced, but the problem quickly returned anyway 😕

My Actuator went out and it was replaced under the warranty. It failed again within 10k miles and was no longer covered by the warranty. I wasn't going to spend $1000 on something to fail within in a year again. There should be a newer redesigned Actuator on the market that most dealerships should be using by now. Something about the pin that engages the solenoid has been machined different so it should last a lot longer. The Actuator replacement bill should be right around $1000. If the bill was $2000 they most likely replaced the chain and rollers as they will become damaged over time if the actuator is not fixed "Ask me how I know" My fingers are crossed that you got one of the newer Actuators and your just hearing your exhaust shield occasionally vibrate.

That's a great idea. All of the seat extenders or sliders that I see online just mention the seat sliding backwards an extra few inches. They never really mention the seat being able to slide forward so I'll have to give them a call.

Hey brother great videos 😀 I just wanted to give some friendly advise. If you're planning to sleep over your electronic with power running through them, you need to insulate yourself from the dirty electric fields that run off the circuits. Because these can have detrimental effects on your health and brain. Peace man all the best.

Another problem, the starter motor has a short life. This is a problem on my 2015 Fit EX model, might apply to others. The starter motor solenoid is built into the motor and was assembled improperly cause the solenoid contacts to burn through prematurely. The fix is a new starter motor for about $250 or 31210-5G0-A01 Holder Set, Brush for $33. The brushes and commutator were fine on mine but the solenoid contacts, which are part of the brush holder set, were burned badly. YT has a lot of videos about replacing the starter motor and a few about how to replace the brush set. I saved about $900 doing it myself in about 2 hours on the garage floor.

Hi Gary, I've been going through all of my Honda Fit repair bills and it looks like I had my starter replaced at 35,405 miles, just before the warranty ended. I haven't heard of to many others with starter problems, so maybe it was just the first year of the 3rd gen Honda Fits with that issue?
@GaryL3803
@GaryL3803 8 ай бұрын
Lots of people suppose the commutator or brushes but I found the contacts on the solenoid burned up. The contact is basically just a thick copper washer with teeth on one half that engage a fixed toothed copper plate. If the teeth on the washer contact the teeth on the plate then they burn out quickly. The washer should be oriented for the teeth to contact the smooth part of the plate and vice versa. There should have been a flat on the solenoid plunger and correspondingly on the washer to insure that the washer could not be mounted backwards. Maybe Mitsuba fixed this on later models or American Honda is just ignoring it like the VTC actuator problem, both of which I am experienced. The VTC problem is destroying the value of my car so I guess I will keep it until death do us part. BTW - The starter problem starts out as an intermittent issue and fails completely eventually. @@HondaFit4Adventure

I just purchased a 2015 Fit EX, manual with 59,000 miles. Ive read alot about the vtc actuator on these. Is there a average milage that this tends to happen or is it something thats random at any time say from 20k to 120k and beyond?
@HondaFit4Adventure
@HondaFit4Adventure Ай бұрын
It seems to happen randomly for most people. Does your Fit rattle on a cold start? If not, I'd say it was probably replaced already based on your mileage. Based on my research... There was a few years where the VTC actuators being made were crap. Honda redesigned them or sourced them from a different company, so the new VTC actuators seem to last.

No. My guesses... A. Check the seal around your door frame. Make sure it's pushed down all the way and there's no lumps. B. Look at the passenger side firewall in the engine bay. See if the big rubber grommet is pushed into place. C. Your new windshield may not be attached properly.

I've had the VTC rattle for almost a year... It now sounds horrible. You mentioned if you don't fix it it will damage some other stuff. What else does this damage? I thought the rattle was just a nuisance but didn't affect anything mechanically speaking 😅
@HondaFit4Adventure
@HondaFit4Adventure 4 ай бұрын
It eventually leads to slack in the timing chain. The slack in the timing chain will eventually start wearing out the teeth on the guide rollers etc. You should be able to take it to a mechanic and have them tell you if needs fixing right away or you can wait awhile based on the slack if any that's measured on the chain. I went 30k miles before getting mine fixed (Don't do that!) I went to start the car one day and the cold start rattle sounded very different. That's when I finally had it fixed and got the big repair bill. I wish it was as simple as an exhaust shield rattle.

No it does not. Even my chain rollers were damaged and it still didn't throw a code. I drove approximately 30k miles with a bad VTC. One day the cold start rattle sounded quite different than normal, that's when I finally took it in to go get fixed. Hopefully you have a good relationship with a mechanic. I was told they can monitor the slack in the chain and let you know if it needs to be fixed right away or if you'll be able to drive a few more thousand miles with out causing any extra damage.

2014 Fit with white peeling paint. its a disgrace that they can go so wrong with their paint job. my dad's 2006 Toyota Yaris that never gest washed has paint in better shape. as to leg room for tall people and discomfort.... your legs are too long for the low seat, pushing your knees up high and therefore driving your tailbone and sit bones into the seat. so all your weight is taken in a small area, rather than distributing your weight over your buttocks and thighs. Ive added a 2 inch foam cushion or sometimes I have a 3 inch Roho Mosaic cushion (often used in wheelchairs and about $125 canadian on Amazon). But Im only 5'10" with 33 inch inseam legs.

Just stick with Toyota folks. Never had such issues. Never buying a car in such a cheap segment either. No wonder all these cars are being axed from the market. I really regret buying such a car and have very little hope it will last long. I was blinded by what I thought would be a fun car and reliability. No. The back seat is already broken on me. So no magic seats. The aeats are terrible. The build quality is lacking as well. Also it is incredibly unsafe. I will 100% die in any accident.

I hope it's just an exhaust shield and not your VTC actuator. The re-introduction of the Honda Civic hatch is what killed the sales of the Honda Fit and why it was discontinued in the U.S. market. The seats are terrible but I haven't heard of any one having problems with the rear seat. What is broken on the back seat? The bolts, the folding bar, or the locking mechanism? I like taking the FIT apart to make How/To & repair videos. Let me know what broke and I'll see what I can do. The Honda Fit has a 5 star safety rating, but I must say a lot of damage is done to the car if you're ever rear ended. The rear bumper/crash bar sits lower than most cars front bumper hight. So even a rear end collision at low speeds will not only damage your rear bumper, but your trunk as well. $$$ Toyotas are nice :) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pb9zgLOH3d7YZ6M.htmlsi=mKCOmMFotnpboZui&t=43
