I was looking for a LOT more detail on what was fictionalized. I suspect a LOT more of the film (excellent though it may be) was made up for drama purposes. I’d love to know where I can find out which other facets were indeed factual, based on fact, or entirely constructed for dramatic purposes.

I love this movie and understand that there are artistic liberties taken to make a movie. There are two related stories I would love to see made into movies. The first would be the story of the forgotten and unsung heroes of the Polish intelligence community who received the first Enigma machine through their spies and developed the Bomba machine which they gave to the British before the German military overran Poland. The second would be the story of Gordon Welchman, also of Bletchley Park, who's use of traffic analysis contributed as much as the Bomba to breaking the German communications. His system of traffic analysis is still the foundation of monitoring communications today and the primary source of Edward Snowden's release US methods.

I liked the movie but felt betrayed by the patchwork of stories to aid dramatization I dont mind as long as people do their research but alot of people think these 'based on a true story' movies are documentaries and dont look into it.

No mention of Gordan Welchman, who arguably played as important a role as Turing in cracking the Enigma.

In the movie the chess champion said "We just defeated the Nazi's with a few crossword enthusiasts" or close. I almost fell off the couch. Who allowed that to be said? Had they never heard of Stalingrad and the mighty effort the Russians played in defeating the Nazi's?

Also, the film leads us to believe Turing discovered Joan Clarke, but this is not true! She was already at Bletchley Park when Turing got there.

I'm religious--I really am. Muslim to be precise, so not the most lenient of religions. Still, the story of Alan Turing baffles me. Every time I try to justify what happened to him, essentially for ''herecy'', everything I believe just falls apart in a second.

Alan Turing was a mastermind. It is a pity that he was mistreated later in life. But that's a part of social evolution, i guess.

But to dismiss the contributions of tens of thousands of others is very insulting. That's going a bit too far. Certainly, Turing's work should be remembered and celebrated. He did some very important things. But to sit there and say Britain's victory can be attributed to just one guy is, well, wrong. It's revisionist. It's wrong. Don't start some backlash against the guy or the contributions of others at Bletchley Park. Don't start giving him ALL THE CREDIT for the victory over Nazi, Germany. Turing wasn't fighting off the hordes of Lufwaffe fighters and bombers attempting to clear the skies ahead of a land invasion. He hadn't even cracked Enigma yet. That statement goes WAY TOO FAR.

There was another 4 or 5 super enigma coding machines that were way harder to break and nothing about the guy who broke the code

Some homosexuals are highly intelligent for example Leonardo da Vinci. I wonder how many geniuses the Christian and Islamic potentates have had slaughtered because of their weird ideas about sexuality. The official theory was that homosexuals could be blackmailed and thus those who had secrets had to be closely watched and it was this that apparently troubled Turing (who found it impossible to live a normal life or what for homosexuals was a normal life) to the point of suicide. Who knows but that idea is based on what his psychiatrist said. Since the transistor had not been invented at that time the machine used many, many valves which had the same function but used a lot of electric power and thus produced a immense amount of heat.

The enigma was the lowest level, (double encryption), of the five (5) different types of German cypher machines used by the Germans.......and Turing only worked on remodelling the Polish "Bombe", a combination of six polish replica enigma rotors.......used to reduce the effort necessary to find the new daily keys to break into the enigmas encryption system....cracking the German naval model of it, a four-rotor encryption machine for secret, tactical use.....the LORENZ was the highest level cypher machine....a TWELVE-ROTOR triple encryption cypher machine used for the Top Secret Strategic communications of Hitler and the German High Command.....Bill Tutte, alone, cracked the Lorenz cypher machine while Tommy Flowers conceived, designed, built and put into operation the Colossus, the world's very first digital, memory based computer.....used to speed up finding the new daily keys for the Lorenz.........Turing had NOTHING to do with that incredible achievement...!
