My wife just unlocked her junior sister’s iPhone. They look so much alike so I came here to find out if that’s ever possible and it is 😮😮😮. We are not safe Apples users. I think Apple has to go back to the use of fingerprints or combine both.

I think there should be a feature to add subtle expression (Like smile, rising eyebrows or can be any face expression that the owner would like to keep ) wile registering for face id, which will make it more secure

You can optionally require user attention in order for Face ID to succeed. It will slightly increase the time to unlock but it'll still be pretty quick, and it's more secure to enable it.

So why face Id is safer than Touch ID? Twin s finger prints are different, they can't open each other's phone using Touch ID.

Louis Xu they can easily take your finger and unlock it while you are sleeping or fainted! And it won't work with dust or moisture in you fingerprint but yeah face ID is on it's beginner stage and it's really smart for a starting unlock feature! I suppose it may get a way better over time as we know apple I'd the best in supplying updates

Boundless Atilier But it doesn't work in the dark, does it? Edit: Apparently it SHOULD work in the dark too. Let's see how well. I personally prefer the fingerprint sensor, since it's just so simple. I have an identical twin and people can never tell us apart when we first get to know them. A strange thing did happen though with a patient that had brain cancer (we both work at the same hospital) who asked her "where is your sister" even though we met him on separate days during which he was usually out of it mentally, and we didn't tell him we are twins/have a sister. People usually just say, oh I met you the other day. Not surprised the iphone can't differentiate twins when humans, IRL usually have difficulty differentiating twins!

I wonder if this still works? The Face ID is supposed to be a bit more fine tuned now. Also if they used a front facing LiDAR sensor would it pick up on the slight nuances better? Maybe like slightly different eye shapes or forced family expressions and would this work with good makeup and prosthetics? My dad could never use Face ID on his X because of his beard but now with his 13 it detects his face at most angles even with his beard and glasses.

Try this same test after you let the phone adapt to the face by constantly having one of twins keep unlocking with his face over the course of several weeks, or months. This is called machine learning and is needed so that it can recognize your uniquess over time. Touch ID works the same way I believe, although fingerprints are unique right off the bat, so that's why it's secure right away

Having a face like someone you know *cough* twins *cough* is much more likely should you have a twin... This is a drop in the security of the device than touch id is...

I have a twin, but I am a male and my twin is a female. Never the less, we still look alike and even have the same eye glasses and sun glasses (although we did not agree upon which ones we should purchase). If these twins could access each others phones, I wonder if twins of different gender could do the same. To ensure that your data stays secure, use a password instead of "Face ID".
