In this video, I review the Lectric XPeak, a new fat tire electric bike. Overall, I'm impressed with its capabilities and value for money, especially considering its price of $1299. It's got impressive components like hydraulic disc brakes, a comfy suspension fork, and a powerful motor that can take you up to 28 mph. Plus, it's UL-certified for safety and can tackle gnarly off-road trails. If you're looking for a budget-friendly fat tire e-bike that can handle anything you throw at it, the Lectric XPeak is definitely worth checking out.

Great review, as always. I was surprised to see an 11-28 freewheel used on the XPeak - the same freewheel used on their 20" wheel models.. With the larger 26" wheel diameter this is an obvious application for much lower geared freewheel. The 11-34 Drift Maniac 7 speed freewheel has been a very popular and proven upgrade on 1.0, 2.0 & 3.0 models of Lectric ebikes. Note: Any change where you are adding teeth on low gear be sure to check chain length in the lowest gear (largest rear sprocket) to be sure your bike has a sufficiently long chain to handle the 34 tooth low gear. Test this by turning the cranks by hand, before riding the bike, lest you damage the derailleur. Technical Talk: Lectric has used a 46 tooth chainring sprocket on the XPeak Vs the 52 tooth chainring on their other 20" wheel bikes. That smaller 46 tooth chainring on the XPeak is to help make up the difference with the larger tire diameter so the bike can still climb hills. However, even with that smaller chainring, the gearing on the XPeak, out of the box on the low gear 28 tooth sprocket, is about 20% higher than the 28 tooth sprocket on the a 20" wheel Lectric 3.0 bike. So the XPeak gearing is going to be pretty high on low gear and riders may not be able to turn over the cranks to maximize the bike's hill climbing potential and to supplement the motor's power on this slightly heavier bike. So it looks like owners who are going to ride on hills are going to need a 34 tooth low gear to have any climbing effectiveness with this gearing and tire size. If you fit a 34 tooth low gear on your XPeak it is going to feel virtually identical to the gearing on a 3.0 model when the rider is on the 28 tooth sprocket. For you bike techies - A 52x28 on an 3.0 model with 20" x 3" tires is 41 gear inches and an XPeak with a 46x34 with 26"X4" tires is also 41 gear inches. www.bikecalc.com/archives/gear-inches.html Short of changing out the crank and front chainring - The only other way to get more grunt for hills would be to fit a 2.8 to 3.0 width rear tire to get a 10% lower effective gear ratio. This would drop you to 37-38 gear inches.

Excellent review, and Lectric certainly knows how to keep the company lean and responsive. The display being able to show current or voltage is a great feature, and hydraulic brakes are a nice touch. I thought it would be full suspension, but that would add a lot to the price. A through axle is stiffer than a quick release, but easier than a solid axle, so it's really the best of both worlds. I have an RST fork that came standard on my bike, and I like the progressive lockout. Current based cadence PAS is much more natural than speed based, but if you are experiencing speed creep, Lectric needs to make a minor adjustment their PAS RPM gain structure. Is this the king of all-terrain electric bikes? Not exactly, but it is decent for occasional light off road use for the price. On a tight MBT with switchbacks and 30 to 40% grades, I don't think it would make it. Thanks for the video!

You can not understate how customer care is putting this brand ahead if the competition. Combined with stateside parts availability. I had a terrible experience with polarna, and when I couldn’t get ahold of them, lectric was on the phone with me talking me through the troubleshooting (i own a xp lite as for my wife) turns out my polarna motor was fried. So after month ls of emails 6 month later polarna sent me the wrong size motor. There are cheaper options for people shopping for a spec sheet, but its trash the minute something break.

It is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow! I can’t wait. I’ve been on several other brands and talked to owners of a lot more. While the Aventon is a nice bike, I can’t see them being that much better, necessitating their higher cost.

A tiny 14ah battery on a 26x4 fat tire bike in 2024 is a complete non starter. Not sure what they were thinking. Nice fork, it will be comfortable pushing the bike home. Lectric cheaps out on batteries and sticks it to you on accessories which should be standard. Anyone who does a little due diligence will find many better choices.

The sound tires make over the sound of gears and motor windings are different. Having a couple hundred miles on the Xpedition, which has a very loud 1st generation of this motor, I am very familiar with the sounds. When we get one of the XPeaks back at home, we are going to do a side by side to show the difference in motor sound, so you can hopefully, hear the difference yourself.

@m0dex
@m0dex 7 ай бұрын
Thanks for the review! I get that this isn't trying to be a premium ebike so to me the price is right for what it is. An issue for me though is the way that they program the pas settings with their new PWR controller. First, having to change the pas level to 5 to achieve 20mph using the throttle would be irritating. Shouldn't be dependent on what pas level you're in if you can just give it as much throttle as you need. Crossing a road and forgetting to put it in pas 5 to throttle across faster would be an issue as well as forgetting to lower the pas back to whatever you were using before once you made it across. Making a setting to change the way the throttle works would be a good compromise. There also needs to be a better distribution of power between each pas level. In a perfect world with more pas settings (pas 6/7). Anyways that's just my thoughts and I don't expect everyone to agree.

@MManv84
@MManv84 7 ай бұрын
@@tenncutt He didn't say anything about Aventon (what am I missing?) He was talking about the PAS + throttle interaction/dependency, at least how I read it. I have had a similar experience going from my Radpower (which is hardly a premium ebike either) to my wife's XP 3.0, it is annoying that the throttle output is tied to the PAS setting on the Lectric. The Lectric is more awkward (for my riding style) experience than I have with the Radpower, which I can leave in a lower PAS almost continuously (since I like getting some workout) but when I have to start from a stop at a four way intersection, I can "gun" the throttle to accelerate through it quickly (and not irritate car drivers); no need to change PAS. On the XP I had to go through the silly exercise of running PAS up a few numbers to get across the intersection, then taking it back down almost immediately as it was *way* more PAS than I wanted after achieving speed. Similar issue climbing a short but steep hill on my regular commute, on a narrow & busy road. @m0dex, if this is what you are talking about, I absolutely agree, to the point that this is the #1 reason I wouldn't buy this bike (or perhaps any Lectirc bike) for myself. I watched this review just in case they might have changed how the throttle works for this bike, but it does not sound like it, it works just the same as the XP?

@@MManv84I think he's talking about the top comment where the guy commenting about how avanton is better. As for the pas thing, I would say that is more of the controller's problem, and I noticed they use the same ones for all of their bikes, I'm guessing to keep cost down. Best thing I would do is change it out to the one like the bike you talking about. I'm not an expert on these things but I would think that would be the problem solver.

@chow-chihuang4903
@chow-chihuang4903 7 ай бұрын
PWR is simply the name they give to the power management style. They’re not the only brand to link each PAS level to a specific amount of power delivered to the motor. That said, I much prefer it to they style which links each level to a target speed and follows an arbitrary power delivery curve to approach it. All their e-bikes, except the XPremium, have always used a cadence sensor to trigger motor assistance with pedaling.
@EbikeEscape

You are correct. It does use the Lectric PWR System. It is blend of both, or as close as we think you can currently get with a Cadence sensor to achieve some of the efficiency you gain from a torque sensor.

I assume all the shifting done that it's using a torque sensor not a cadence sensor. A thumb throttle on an off road bouncing bike is hard to understand. I'm not a fan of the PWR controller with the PAS/throttle link. Too many negatives for me.

They are definitely out there! I really like them too.. they ones that come to mind are e-bikes, yes, but not the type in this video (in case you were referring to that). I can think of like a moto style regular e-bike and e-trikes, but can’t say I’ve seen a mtb style with that seat. I really love the way Addmotor bikes look, especially with that long comfy ‘banana’ seat you’re talking about.. very good looking bikes to me 👍 check em out

@@danielfranz6560 Yes! That’s the brand that I meant to mention as well but forgot.. I’m just such a fan of the style so I love the brands that do it. I’m way too short for the Aniioki 😂 too bad, I would love to ride that A8! ❤Lol

I think what you are looking for is a Moped-Style Ebike. The downfall is the pedal position is not really adjustable. We have done quite a few of those e-bikes. Ariel rider is a great brand for those. And also coming out shortly we have a review of the EUY S4, which is a decent budget brand one.

Dual Batteries, Bigger Voltage, Longer Range, then I am sold on this XPEAK but for now. It's basic.

Problem is then you're looking at an ebike not geared to the masses and it will cost much more. I would have liked to see a dual battery option though.

They tell me that there’s a $400 fork on the front of these things. If they’re gonna lie about that, what else are they lying about? Just use a little common sense folks $400 forks on a $1200 bike I don’t think so.

Lectric bikes are...cheap. We have 3 Aventons and a Lectric XPedition. BY FAR, the Aventons are SOOOOO much better. We're selling the Lectric. They are a "juggernaut" because they are so cheap. It's a budget bike that is an easy pass for anyone wanting quality. I say skip this and go with an Aventon. JMO.

@riclevine5983 shhh he's an avanton sales person 😂, trying to out sell the competition lol! I gots a lectric and it's fine for me. He's just too fancy with the hefty price tag for bikes that do the same thing. He just got more money to burn. 😂
