How do you rank the M Night Movies? Are you excited for what he has coming up in the future? Let us know in the comments below and thanks for watching! One: Speak up and join the conversation- we encourage respectful debate. Two: Respect your community- racism, misogyny, homophobia and hate speech aren’t tolerated. I haven’t seen the actual movie, but the twist in signs is that the aliens are actually demons from hell and the water hurts them cause it’s holy water. There are too many parodies of m nights movies for young people who weren’t of age during the release of the movie.

Unbreakable Sixth Sense Split Signs The Visit The Village And that's it. I watched the Happening and The Lady in Water and they were so God awful, I stopped abusing myself with his movies. The buzz for The Visit brought me back to the director. Therefore, I cannot judge which was worse between The Happening, Lady in Water, After Earth and Last Airbender. I will never see them. Not even on cable and I watch Devil on cable.

I don't understand why the hate on The Village's twist? In fact, it gives the story some depth. Otherwise it would be another random generic monster movie. The village's problem was it was marketed as a standart horror movie, it was creepy and had a few horror-ish scenes but it was more of a creepy thriller/drama. It wasn't the best but it worked imo.

Right?? Such a good movie. So subtle.. Ironically quieter than "A Quiet Place" which is not only similar to Signs, but currently being praised as a masterpiece even tho it's unoriginal & filled with cheap jump scares.
@LupeJustinian

dustin king I haven't seen A Quiet Place, but I'm sure Signs is probably superior. I saw Krasinki's adaptation of the David Foster Wallace material and was severely disappointed (especially since it was the only one produced before he died). I don't know why people treat Signs like hyperrealistic sci-fi when it's so clearly a metaphysical/religious film first. "Why would aliens go to a planet made of materials that they're mostly allergic to?" Maybe they're just a scout ship. Maybe their egos lead them astray. Why would humans investigate another planet with no breathable oxygen or sufficient radiation protection?
@dustinking2370
@dustinking2370 6 жыл бұрын
LupeJustinian I agree. The focus is on this family, not the aliens. Which I think adds more suspense. And if you've ever seen Cloverfield, Tremors or Signs then you've seen a Quiet Place lol. It's not horrible, but not what it's hyped up to be. Maybe Redbox it.

Yes, it's baffling. I'm still surprised that so many people completely miss the point of the film even though it's front and center the entire time. It's a character movie, not an alien invasion movie. It's certainly my favorite film of his.

Come on guys! Even with that "plothole" Signs is a pretty damn good movie. The suspense and character development is great. I remember being really creeped out by it when i first watched it and i don't creep out easily with horror movies. I agree the ending wasn't the best, but i fit the theme of the movie non the less and completed Gibson's character's story arc. Also Abigail Breslin in that movie is the cutest thing ever.

One of the (many) brilliant things about Unbreakable is that it presents a soul-crushingly dull, dreary, and mundane world, the inhabitants of which drudge through each day listlessly and passionlessly, but then, ever so slowly, introduces the idea that even in such an ordinary world, there lies an obscure, mysterious force that connects certain specific individuals to the exciting, vibrant, and outlandish world of comic book superheroes. Also, Elijah Price is easily one of the most compelling and tragic villains of all time. Although he begins his life physically broken and emotionally crushed, his evil acts are motivated not by a hatred of humanity or a desire to see the hero suffer, but instead by a desperate need to prove to himself that the seemingly random cruelty the universe had dealt him had in fact been a design of the mysterious force which made the existence of superheroes and villains possible.

People hate on him way too much. He is a good director obviously and is very creative. He just lost his motivation for a while after the unessisary hate signs and village because people wanted it to be like the six sense and he is now starting to find his motivation again and what he wants to direct. He only human a ots of great directors loose there motivation like anyone like George lucas with a few of the prequels or Ridley Scott with his hanibal. And also the same goes for these directors they can makes bad movies but are definatley not bad directors.

I can see that I just don't agree. I agree that it's not all on him. I think the studio was so excited to market him after sixth sense they pushed his name out front while simultaneously marketing him as any other horror director and that hurt those movies significantly. I think he launched hard on some movies and they just didn't land. I think a slower career may have worked better for him

The most amazing thing about McAvoy's performance is really the physicality of all the different personalities. Just through his body language, you can tell which personality he is and seeing his entire body shift as he changes to another personality was pretty incredible. It was like watching the T-1000 only instead of special effects, it was all done through acting.

For good content and people with greater knowledge in movie one way or another and to talk about it. Dan, Roth, Spencer, for example. Being a critic isn't "loving movies, omg" is understand how they are made, what makes a good movie, not only narratively but technically and visually and thematically. For example, Roxy has put Schindler's List down because "it wasn't fun" lol. Obviously she has opinions and i respect them... but just as much as i respect yours and any other guy i meet on the street, not as someone who is a critic

One of the things I think we need to remove from Shymalan is intent. Sure, he might not have intended to make a B movie, but when you absorb this film as the audience, you can think about it as such. I think The Happening is an amazing B movie full of A-listers and a big budget. I hated The Village the first time I saw it, because by then we were trained to wait for the "twist". But I watched the film again 12 years later, and it's a beautiful movie. One of the things we forget about M. Night movies, the good ones, is that they're not the genre they initially purport to be. The acting, cinematography, music -- when you watch The Village as a period piece and not as a horror movie, it's wonderful and absorbing. And being hung up on the alien thing about Signs is missing the point of the film. It's not really about aliens; it's about grief and faith. It's about a shattered family grieving in their own way, marred by their eccentricities and brought together by some divine event, much like the random event that ruined their lives beforehand. I won't die on a hill for Airbender or Lady in the Water or even After Earth, but Shymalan is such a unique filmmaker. He does amazing genre films and he takes more risks than most boring directors.

I remember when Roth was on IGN and did reviews for The Legend of Korra. I totally knew she was going to rant on The Last Airbender. Justifiably so.

Deanna Dunagan (nana) deserves a freakin oscar for that performance in the visit. She was crawling, throwing up herself, and walking around naked. Twas, brilliant. And I'm only being %50 sarcastic with that comment.

Devil was actually one of my favorites of his. One of those times that the twist worked. Not surprised it didn't make the list though since it wasn't super popular and it's hit or miss with people. Then again I like Netflix's The Circle which a lot of people find really boring.

What Shyamalan has is a different voice from most main stream directors. None of his movies are realistic, it does fun little things with story telling. I really liked Signs a lot, at the end , the boy having asthma, girl having a weird drinking problem , joaquinn s issue with baseball bat, all becomes Signs for divine intervention. Its a movie about faith, and has excellent acting performances from the cast. Aliens having issue with water or closet, is explained earlier in the movie by mentioninv they are just scouting the earth, and making sure everything is clear for invasion. Its a far fetch, but it is really entertaining movie. In Split he has kind of made a come back, but we will only know for sure when Glass comes out.

I liked Signs. I say it's a 5-5 tie (Haven't seen Split yet, but will take your word for it). I actually didn't mind the Village or Lady in the Water either, but I know those are more controversial.

Signs has problems, but not enough aliens is a weird knock against it. Isn’t this the same group of people who say all the time that one of the greatest things about Jaws was that you barely saw the shark and that made it more suspenseful? Also they said that Jaws was actually about the 3 characters and not about the shark. So wouldn’t Signs be about the family and not about the aliens?
