This episode was extremely interesting and productive. I think the content could be straightforwardly turned into an academic paper.

Top quality content! Just a question for you Matthew - if I want to learn more about anthropic reasoning, where should I look? It sounds (1) super interesting (2) super important and (3) super underexplored in the mainstream (especially given 1 and 2).

Asked Amos this some time ago and he suggested Carlsmith’s dissertation A Stranger Priority, available online. Bostrom’s Anthropic Bias is the main starting point. Matthew may hace additional suggestions

Carlsmith has a lot of articles available online which you can find here (it's a 4-part series joecarlsmith.com/2021/09/30/sia-ssa-part-1-learning-from-the-fact-that-you-exist). That's how I got into anthropics. Bostrom has a good book called anthropic bias that's worth reading--a pdf is available anthropic-principle.com/pdf/anthropicbias.pdf You can also find all my articles on the topic here benthams.substack.com/p/several-new-arguments-for-the-self I think the most helpful things for me thinking through anthropics were reading Carlsmith's stuff, thinking about it for myself, and thinking about the multiverse and inverse gamblers.

The way Huemer seems to answer the resolution is “Yes, taxation is theft, but theft is _sometimes_ justified.” And I think Goff was stuck on answering the resolution with a no, so he missed that part, and that’s when it felt like Huemer started thinking really hard about all of his answers, haha. That’s just my take on the debate.

It’d be interesting to hear your thoughts on Builes’ Center Indifference and Skepticism; specifically whether philosophy of time concerns should influence our probabilistic reasoning
