I agree with your assessment here. I've had the Hub for a few months and it's a solid option at an amazing price. I've noticed a few dropouts and felt issues when going low cadence climbing but it seems like it's ideal for people who aren't super critical of smart bike trainers and/or might be using it as their first trainer. (BTW, gorgeous broll!)

I've had my Zwift Hub for a couple months (replaced a Wahoo KICKR Snap) and I LOVE it! Definitely next level compared to the Snap and your review is spot on in my experience. I am the target audience as a recreational cyclist and don't squirm about little inaccuracies or inconsistencies. I feel like if you're that advanced, this unit isn't really for you nor is it targeted at you. Price point for value is unbeatable and coming with a cassette and adapters for thru-axle with color coding and helpful setup tutorial videos is a win win. IMO Zwift knocked it out of the park on this one. Thanks, as always for your excellent content!

A great review as always. I will be moving from a smart wheel-on trainer (CycleOps Magnus) to a direct-drive trainer for the next indoor season, next Fall. I believe the Zwift Hub will be the best option based on price & performance. My biggest concern was compatibility with other apps as I will be moving from Wahoo Systm to Trainer Road. Based on your review, both the device and the app compatibility would seem to be great. I will be holding-off to see if Zwift does any promotions over the summer to get it even cheaper. I’ve been very pleased with my Zwift Hub so far after 3 months of extensive riding. The only niggle is that in ERG mode during a workout warm up, during higher cadence and lower power, cadence jumps around quite a bit. I’ve had cadence readings drop to as low as 24 when I know I’m pedaling much faster than that. I’ve also had some difficulty getting Bluetooth on the Companion app to stay synced with the Hub before I begin my ride. But there have been no drop outs during riding. Overall, my experience has been quite good.
@SmartBikeTrainers

Generally with trainers that estimate cadence like the HUB and others, tend to have that issue. But outside of the scenario you described, it seems to be good enough and better than others out there at the midrange price point. Glad to hear you are enjoying the the trainer 👍

Great and informative video as always! I purchased a like new Wahoo Kickr Core secondhand a few months ago and it was working great until... It died. Upon some research it was victim to the dreaded Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) shock death. Do you know if the Zwift Hub is susceptible to similar damage? My hands are usually pretty dry and I am often putting on/taking off fleece garments so I am always shocking things I touch. I am considering moving to a new Zwift Hub so I will have a warranty as an original owner but don't want to deal with the same problem on a different unit.

Tariq, another great review. I currently have been using a wheel on (Elite) trainer for the past few years and am ready to move to a direct drive trainer. This is at the top of my list, but was mostly concerned about using other platforms. I'm not the biggest Zwift fan and prefer platforms like Rouvy and Fulgaz. Will I need a Zwift account to get the hub up and running and for calibration, or just the companion app? Nothing against Zwift. I just prefer the "real" feel of the others. It just feels more like I'm outside. I have my laptop connected to a projector that shoots to a six foot screen on my wall. Almost like being there. Thanks for all you do.

Good question. No need to have an active subscription to Zwift. You just need the companion app to install the firmware. As far as the calibration, if the app you use doesn’t offer calibration, then you will need to do it within the Zwift app or just let it auto calibrate on its own.

My Volt v2 had to go back to Jetblack for warranty repair, after only 3 weeks of use. Power was reading 25-30 watts too low, which I was able to determine by comparing with my crank-based power meter. I wonder if other users experience this problem but don't have a PM to compare? Not a good first impression. I also find the road feel a bit lacking, due to smaller flywheel. Its worse than my Kickr Snap, which although it has the same weight flywheel, the combined mass of the rear wheel means it has more inertia when riding.

I've been using this for the past four months and can't fault it for reliability. Doesn't have any connectivity issues, feels good and reacts to changes quickly. The only thing is way off is the power if only using the trainer. I use Assioma Duos as they are super accurate, return better data and give me consistency between indoor & outdoor training. However, I recently ran my Edge 530 (reading trainer) and Zwift (reading pedals) simultaneously and the trainer reads about 30W higher than the pedals. While it doesn't bother me as I don't race, only train therefore my power just needs to sit in the relative zones regardless which I use it does provide a ridiculously unfair advantage to those who would use an inaccurate trainer.
@SmartBikeTrainers

@@SmartBikeTrainers yeah, I guess they're measured in different places using different means which will always return a difference as they're not equal but didn't think the gap would be that big - all calibration etc up to date on both. I mean it's kind of irrelevant when it comes to training as your zones will just be relative to the device you test on and use but found it interesting to note.

Currently I use the Elite Nero Smart Rollers. I like them a lot, the only downside is that I can't change fore-aft incline. I would like to be able to alter the angle between the front and rear axles during a training session. More specifically, I would like the front axle to rise (I don't know how many centimeters), for one minute every ten minutes. I would strongly consider pairing the Elite Rizer with my Elite Nero rollers but according to one person, this may not be possible, and is likely dangerous. I was close to arguing with him. Although they solve the fore-aft angle problem, I am ***not*** considering the Tacx Magnum and Oreka O2, for a few reasons. I've researched as much as I can, and it would appear my only option is to switch to a fixed wheel trainer, an unfortunate decision to me as I've become very good at riding the rollers, and if I switch to a fixed wheel trainer, my rollers will sit in a corner collecting dust. Part of the draw/advantage of using a fixed wheel trainer is that you can use Zwift/TrainerRoad and other "online training platforms", but I do not like them. I have all the modern gadgets to measure my speed, cadence, power, heart rate, and even the temperature. I use them every workout. I have a good power meter on my bicycle, so accuracy of the reported power from the trainer is not important to me. I wonder if you could give me some advice. All I am trying to resolve is a relatively simple issue of fore-aft rise.
@SmartBikeTrainers
@SmartBikeTrainers Жыл бұрын
I understand the feeling and your desire to use the Rizer with the Nero rollers. I wouldn’t recommend that however. Aside from safety concerns and possibly damaging the bike, the rollers won’t have enough grip on your rear wheel to be able to simulate climbs effectively without the rear tire slipping. Rollers rely on your front wheel as well as your rear wheel to provide you with resistance and momentum. If you remove the front wheel from the equation, you will feel it in ride feel. If simulating climbs is important to you, I would look into getting a compatible trainer.
@SmartBikeTrainers

Also, it is worth mentioning that the Zwift HUB isn’t compatible with the Rizer or any other climb accessory.

After years of suffering through the cold and miserable winters here in the US northeast running outdoors to stay in shape (cycling was out of the question for me), I decided to get an indoor trainer for my road bike, and after much researched ended up ordering the very similar Wahoo Core. But, and apologies for the newbie question as direct drive trainers are still new to me and I haven't even gotten the Core yet, but it looks really similar to the Hub, and given that the two companies had some legal issues recently about patents, are these basically the same device inside, with mostly cosmetic differences? Or do they just look similar but are different devices? Also, can this be converted to a Hub One, and vice-versa, by swapping out a standard cassette for a special single sprocket one? Can you do that with the Core too, by changing the settings in Zwift, and if so is it possible to purchase that single sprocket cassette and matching electronic shifter? Or would that require new Core firmware and is thus theoretically possible but not actually doable?

That project was scratch last summer and instead they partnered with JetBlack to make the HUB: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z7WIf5Znz9mrqWw.html

Ugh… that stinks. Hard to answer this question with the Hub since it has only been in the market for about a year now. However, the build quality seems really solid and depending on your use, I think it would last a while.

The price of the hub is deceptively low because there is almost no way to have a good workout experience without some subscription, be it Zwift or any other service. It’s like a cheap inkjet printer where the real cost is in the inkjet cartridges you buy afterwards. I would like to see a one-time paying app that is really good at workouts, compatible with all major brands of smart trainers, even without the scenery which is irrelevant anyways during workouts.

After watching this video, 1 Hz data recording and screen update is too damned slow. Not buying. Another $50 for better cards and I might be interested. 10 Hz absolute minimum requirement. 1 Hz makes transients look like a staircase.

No they didn’t outside of providing me with a unit to review.

The Neo 2 is 300 bucks more expensive and probably last way longer then the zwift hub.

With the amount of bugs and gremlins that infest their online worlds, I would never trust any Zwift related product -- especially a smart trainer.
