Paradoxical Adipose Hyperplasia (PAH) is a known cryolipolysis complication but is that really what we are seeing with Linda Evangelista?
I take a look at some journal studies of PAH and compare the before and afters in those to Linda Evangelista... I think that there's definitely more 'stuff' surrounding this story...
Was it CoolSculptings fault? Or perhaps an operator error or clinic issue? ❤️ Let me know in the comments 👇👇👇

@@spoiledartist9471 You are totally right! My Dad was asked to not smoke at all while healing from his surgery, because smoking narrows the small blood vessels that normally bring oxygen to the injured area. If your surgery includes working with bone (like a nose job, hip replacement etc) smoking can stop your bones from healing by a long while!

I strongly disagree with that narrow minded false assumption of a woman in her 50s because you are minimizing her psychological state to that of a 20 year old when she is in her late 50s ie likely able to separate reasonable physical outcomes from relationship issues and normal weight gain. I applaud Linda for speaking up about it. PAH is NOT as "rare" as clinics who purchased coolsculpting equipment make it out to be. The REAL issue is surgeons and clinics NOT ordering the ANA test prior to administering CoolSculpting on patients! The ANA test is NOT common but is the only way to know whether or not a patient is qualified to undergo nonsurgical procedures like coolsculpting or any surgical procedure. NOBODY wants a BOTCHED outcome. Surgeons don't want that because it looks bad on their practice and patients don't want that because they are spending money to look better NOT worse. There are underlying conditions everyone has, most of which they do not know about and lots of medical research that still has not been conclusive on what exactly causes PAH. The ANA test gives some likely indicators on who may not be qualified. I have mine done every year. I have learned that I have lupus, hypothyroidism, and borderline graves disease. Physically, I have NO symptoms and even though I am overweight I am considered "in shape" by most people's standards because I workout a lot and stopped drinking alcohol 8 years ago. Without the ANA test I would assume I would be a good candidate for coolsculpting. I even went to a few surgeon's offices for consults and all 3 offered options including liposuction and coolsculpting despite none of them seeing any lab tests on me. Thank goodness for people like Evangalista sharing her story and making people aware of the side effects of coolsculpting. She saved me money, pain, time, and negative outcome.

I didn't have diet and exercise discipline, fell into a 5 year period of drinking a bottle of wine 4 afternoons a week, and got the big head syndrome all boozing women over the age of 40 get. I stopped drinking all alcohol and within 5 months my jawline, my neckline and the broadness in my face disappeared. So, your conclusions Dr., are all valid and correct.

Most 90s supermodels are at least 3-4 sizes (if not more) than they were when they were supermodels, and it's not hard to find videos of supermodels recounting their bouts of eating disorders when they were working in that business. I would imagine she signed waivers, and although her work relied on the way she looked, the lawsuit should focus on the the extent of disfigurement and whether or not she was forewarned; Not her career, or lack there of. Unfortunately, most women face career set-backs based on ageing and the way they look. Not fair whatsoever, but the argument of "I was a supermodel and therefore, should always look like a supermodel and for sure at the age of 56", is narcissistic entitlement. Would disfigurement be any less important to the rest of us, or does it only apply to her and other supermodels? She could have also had the practitioner sign a wavier, that should she have an adverse reaction, she could sue them based on the risk to her line of work. Would a practitioner do that? Probably not. Because there's always a risk. Is a company responsible for her career as a model and the money she could earn, or is the issue whether or not she was forewarned? If she were to be hit by a bus (God forbid) would the insurance cover need to account also for her career or "just" as a human? There is a point in her argument where the company is no longer liable after a waiver is signed and furthermore, I haven't heard anything of Linda in over 25 years, so I don't think she can blame her career woes on Coolsulpting.

The last Vogue cover she did was in 2006. There is next to no pictures of her after that, and that was way before she did the Coolsculpting. Im convinced that she was overweight before she went for the Coolsculpting and some of this is a cash grab just like she did with Pinault when she had his kid. He’s getting close to the age of majority, she needs another source of revenue.

Obviously this rare side effect should be noted on their website and pamphlets, but at the same time we dont even know for sure that this is what happened to Evangelina in the first place. Considering cool sculpting will NOT cause you to gain weight all over. Also like you said anytime you have a procedure you need to do your research first. And at the very least ask questions at your appointment. This is what i did when i wanted fat removed from my submental region. (I was at a good low weight and (historically) I knew I'd have to get very thin to lose it, which i didnt want to do. I researched both cool sculpt and kybella. I had decided to go with cool sculpt but when i actually went to have the procedure the cup wouldn't form a seal around my submental fat because I apparently didnt have enough of it. Because of that I opted for Kybella. I had 2 sessions only. Overall it was effective, however I do feel like it stretched out my skin some permanently due to the extreme swelling post injections. Also theres a little bit of fat left on the left submental side so its slightly uneven. I could have had another session to get rid if it but didnt want to spend more money or risk stretching out my skin again. All that being said the results were really good. You could see a difference in my before and afters. Btw I do know most people need more than 2 treatments. Like 5 or so. Which can get expensive. Anyway appreciate your take on all of this.

Agree with your assessment. I’m 100% certain she was already overweight when she initially went for Coolsculpting. It’s ridiculous to blame Coolsculpting for a lack of work opportunities based on her current appearance, when it’s far more likely that she was already not in model shape before she had the procedure. She looks like a normal 56 year old woman to me, to have her wallowing and whining that she’s deformed and unrecognizable is insulting to us middle aged women. I don’t have much sympathy for her, and her woes are certainly not worth $50 million.

I think the biggest issue is that these companies overhype these quick methods to dissolve fat, such as cool sculpting, kybella etc . When in actuality the results are usually very underwhelming. Most of the ads and commercials I’ve seen claim it to be 100% safe with no downtime or risk. But the reality is any of these procedures have risk involved the patient must understand even though you’re not going under the knife there is some risk that the procedure might not work and even leave you permanently disfigured. But if the facility did something to her face that isn’t recommended by the manufacturer that caused deformities, if she can prove that..they are responsible. But many of these cases are really hard to prove and the patient normally does sign a document before having the procedure that they are well aware of the risk involved, including death. I’m sure her case will end up being settled out of court.

i feel for her . it’s society and image at fault really when it comes to women aging … my family on both sides age well. but during this pandemic i was dealing w so much stress and eating differently and my exercise changed … my stress was at an all time high. i gained way more than the normal 10-ish pounds i tend to put on some times. i’m quite reserved but i was used to getting a lot of attention and then it stopped . i wasn’t seeking it but it felt worse bc i was already dealing w all the weight and the stress of life . the only thing i’ve done is botox. i just kept adjusting my diet and trying different exercise bc my normal routines weren’t budging the weight. it’s been so long snd FINALLY i lost some of it ☺️i can button up my fave jacket again without it popping or looking like a sausage . i couldn’t even wear this jacket for a year. i still have about 15 pounds to go . it takes longer as you get older . BUT it did make me empathize w a lot more… it feels even more awful when you see aging fat gray wrinkled men still living it up and marrying 20 year olds. it must be terribly hard for her esp since most of her colleagues have aged really well . helena and claudia and the last first lady of france . there must be something to her lawsuit bc you can’t just file a stupid claim . she has more than enough money to hire a trainer and nutritionist. but it’s prob just how her family ages. it’s just genes. my grandmother didn’t look very different from when i was 5 to when i was 25. i also think social media has done more harm to women and their image than any magazine or films could . even when you watch the news it’s usually a bunch of old geezers and a young woman . hopefully gen z will remedy all of this .

Hormonal menopause , predisposed normal aging, previous plastic surgery procedures, weight gain with side effects may have contributed to her body change. Sad, as Linda Evangelista is psychologically suffering from so many factors.

I agree and I guess they would have to prove that this adverse reaction was not available info when she had her treatment. I watched a video the other day that said over 50% of information found on websites that had been used in court cases have been deleted/removed... they simply don't exist anymore! I think that the printed marketing material and investor information could come in really handy here if they can get their hands on it.

We’ll all know what exactly happened to her, when the Court case is in motion. I believe, her current weight gain is a result of the depression she suffered as a result of her botched Coolsculpting treatment. I’m proud of her for having the courage to speak out. Because of her lawsuit, I believe, many more women will be saved the agony she went through with Coolsculpting.

Very unfortunate to be affected by that 1 in 4000 chance for this particular complication and on top of everything else. Although this figure may not be completely accurate as shown in the journal studies. We may eventually find out what the actual figure is from the lawsuit which will help patients make a more informed decision as to the risks of this procedure.

Regardless, of whether this treatment was performed with or without full transparency of risks, I can tell you from my experiences in the Dermal and cosmetic industry these supplier's do not always sell their devices to those properly trained or with medical qualifications. These companies are responsible for providing customers with duty of care and should have the standards of ethical practice reviewed and verified continuously. I understand your point, but I don't fully agree with how you've implied that she is fully at fault here. I'm glad she won this lawsuit. If you look deeper into this issue its unnerving the lengths they go to silence people. I also think it's extremely distasteful that you brought her personal struggles into this to validate your point. That's disappointing, from a medical perspective you understand the importance of staying in your scope of qualifications do not speak outside of that leave those low blows to those in the courts.

Hello Von, I have copied and pasted an answer I made elsewhere as its also pertinent here. Speaking on your comments specifically yes, you can purchase fat freezing and laser machines from Ali Baba should you so wish. Coolsculpting at least is now owned by huge pharmaceutical company AbbVie which is worth $256 billion so yes there are regulatory processes which are carried out. Also I'm unclear how I am speaking out of the scope of my qualifications. Hi XXX, I brought it up because several news channels were claiming that she had stated her weight gain was solely due to the Coolsculpting. As you can see in the paper I have linked here www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8279305/ paradoxical hyperplasia occurs solely at the treatment site, not all over the body. As you are no doubt aware, there is a link between stress and being overweight via several mechanisms www.annualreviews.org/doi/10.1146/annurev-psych-010418-102936 which I will briefly summarise here in case you do not have the opportunity to read it 1. Interferes with cognitive processes including self- regulation 2. Induces consumption of high calorie food and shortening sleep 3. Changes in reward processing in the brain and possibly gut microbiome 4. Stimulates production of hunger and satiety hormones leptin, ghrelin, and neuropeptide Y Obesity itself can be a stressful state due to the high prevalence of weight stigma. In the previous paper, a study of 8658 cycles in 2114 patients the incidence rate of paradoxical hyperplasia was found to be 0.05% and 0.39%, which is slightly higher than the manufacturer’s quoted rate of 0.025%. The study also found that older models of Coolsculpting units and applicators were more likely to cause paradoxical hyperplasia (she had the procedures done 2015-2016). It was also found that of those developing paradoxical hyperplasia, 55% were male and 77.8% were of European ethnic origin. She did manage to settle out of court for an undisclosed sum. This can be confusing as settling is not an admission of error, negligence or guilt, the company likely weighed up the options and were concerned about further reputational damage. She also did sign a consent form. A consent form has been described as a framing instrument and one which provides a way to evolve a relationship over time. So just like a settlement does not have an implication of guilt, so neither does the signing of a consent form prevent the patient from later taking legal action in the case of an adverse event. In the end the two parties came to an agreement which worked for them. What is interesting is that they did not come to a figure which tempted her to sign a non disclosure agreement.

I usually enjoy your channel, but on this occasion I think you've missed the mark. "I'll just leave this here" - why? What purpose does it serve? What meanings can possibly be inferred? What meanings do you *expect* to be inferred? I'm also not sure that India Knight is the pinnacle of influence and authority on the interplay between femininity, corporeality, appearance, mental well-being and the social realm. On the contrary, she's a gossipy hack. Sure, there has been an issue with Linda Evangelista, her current appearance, and the treatments and procedures she's had, and these are having an apparently profound impact on her well-being and her happiness - and it became an issue when Evangelista made it public via social media - but your commentary is disappointingly tabloid-esque, and veers towards sneering on occasion. There are gaps in your account of the situation - you could say much more about perimenopause for instance, and you could also have explored the science in more detail. In fact, I watched this video expecting more of the science, but that's not quite coming across. You've chosen to spend more time on other, more personal and social, factors, but you don't give them the insight they deserve, and I feel quite uncomfortable with some of your insinuations.

Why don't exercise instead of talking treatment she was hardly fat to start with so training to tone herself up wouldn't of taken much to be toned ...... I don't really know much about the treatment but think exercise, eat right food would of been better action to take cos she did not have fat issue before, she's still beautiful looking lady she's fifty years old she's not going to look like how she did in her twenties we all lose our assets..... need to not put all on your looks as we all get old sadly, but that's way it is.

It's something we all must learn to deal with unfortunately 😥 Exercise and diet is always a sensible first step but it's handy to have treatments like these that can help remove those stubborn pockets of fat that just aren't responding to the new diet / exercise changes.
