The colouration (particularly the white under belly) and the fin shape which is quite pointy doesn’t immediately scream basking shark…yet the snout absolutely does. Quite interesting how it could very easily be mistaken. Definitely a basking shark and great video as always.

It would be pretty unusual to see a Basking Shark these days on the south coast, recent data from the past 3-4 years has shown a dramatic, sea temperature related, species migration up towards the northern coasts of Britain. Sightings have plummeted over the last 3-4 years, in Devon, Cornwall and Isles Of Scilly.

We go to Anglesey every year and where we stay, people tell us that there are lots of seals and dolphins but they've never mentioned sharks. Unfortunately, I don't know if they can sense I'm visiting but whenever we're there I never see anything! No dolphins, no seals and certainly no sharks. I'd love to see something in real life, I've been captivated by sharks since I was about four or five when I first saw Jaws. I've been genuinely interested in them ever since and took it upon myself to learn about them, and I really love your channel!

Another 'False Alarm', but it's great that people are keeping and eye out for possible Great White visitors, as it should increase our chances of seeing one or more should they actually be swimming off our shores. Better still that there is genuine film footage as opposed to just anecdotal evidence, or footage from abroad purporting to have been taken in our waters. Having said that, it's still great to see any species of shark swimming free and hopefully not in any kind of stress around our islands!

In absolute honesty,... I'd love to see a GW live,.. in the water.... They're absolutely awesome,.... But the only time I've experienced fear in the UK, was on the island of IONA when I was 10 Y.O.. ...... An adult grey seal popped up 10 feet from where I was treading water,... Within milliseconds my self-preservation gene had reacted,... and I practically "ran" on top of the water to get back to shore... This all happened well before my conscious brain (or the seal) could react,... So I'm not sure I really want them as regular visitors to our own shores...

There maybe only one sure way to verify a GW shark sighting in British waters and that is to jump in and swim towards it. This sounds like an very stupid and dangerous thing to do but I have watched a lot of The Malibu Artist's videos to think that a person would almost certainly be fine being in the water and fairly close to a GW shark as they don't seem to be anywhere near as aggressive as is popularly thought.
