I’ve been very happy with my F-Stop AJNA, the most comfortable pack for any purpose I’ve used in the course of some 60 years of hiking, backpacking, climbing and photography, but your review sent me off in search of additional reviews of the Shimoda Explore v2 and I’m impressed with the thoughtful design of a better solution for outdoor photography. My faithful companion of the past few years may soon be replaced.

Thanks for the Shimoda Explore v2 35L review Nick! I really enjoy having my Explore 60 for my 'leave no lens behind' trips, but pre-ordered the 35L shell for my local, day trips. At 6'3" and 300 lbs., I have Big & Tall needs. Oh, and a little more reach around room never hurt anyone. LOL

This review introduced me to the Shimoda Explore V2. I waited to order a 35L until available in green. I’ve been using it for almost a month now and it is in many ways an improvement over the F-Stop I’d been using for several years. If I have a complaint it is only that I can’t remember which of the many pockets I put what in. That’s not the bag’s fault.

I really love the look of this bag along with its nice features and plenty of storage pockets. But what I secretly love about it, is its sky-blue interior color. I'm not a camera person at all but if the price was 250 or under I would consider getting this back without the dividers in the main compartment to act as a regular backpack.

Hi Nick, So I can blame you that when I got my Action X bag I only has the 2 boring colours to choose from! I was wanting that sea pine colour! The Explore V2 seems like a slimmed down Action X so it should be good. I don't like those leather tags on the zip though, they will just get wet and smell. I like the Action X but would say as far as comfort goes the harness arrangement on my Mindshift Backlight camera bag is significantly better. I'd love to amalgamate the best bits of Action X/Explore v2 with the backlight bags. Then I think you would have the perfect bag!

@@SummitForWellness correct 400 or 600. Or even larger telephotos like the Sony 200-600. I use an F Stop large ICU and then that goes in a backpacking type bag. I got the idea from another KZfaqr by the name of Cameron Roxberry kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qpp_qax7vammopc.html

@@brandt_bennett I think a large backpack like one from, eg. Osprey with an ICU is the way to go. The only gripe being that it doesn’t open from the harness side of the pack. I’m guessing you are planning a multi day pack for wildlife? Happy shooting.
@brandt_bennett
@brandt_bennett 2 жыл бұрын
@@thomastuorto9929 yeah bag options are definitely a constraint, at least in terms of where the bag opens. Exo Mountain Gear makes a bag that opens in the front (their 4800) if you want to shell out the $$$.My setup is used as my everyday shooting bag (or I can pull the ICU out) as well as for extended trips.

Nick, have you considered the Osprey Stratos 36l? It's less rugged than the Explorer 35l, but also lighter and it has trampoline system backpanel to avoid sweaty back (!). It has side access too, so that you could use a Shimoda Small DSLR core unit inserted vertically. I'd say it's a good alternative for people more hiking oriented who also bring some small photography equipment.

Hey Nick! As always this is a cool, low key honest review. I want you to know that I have a Shimoda bag, it is because of YOU and I could not be happier!!😁 I was looking for a quality, durable, yet comfortable bag so I looked you up for reviews. It was the older video in which you requested better colors. I trust your opinion, which was the catalyst for me in getting my bag. By the time I got my bag they had created the Action X3O in the really cool army green color, it is perfect for me! I indeed think they heard you👍🏽. I also did not like the other colors so I was really happy to see it in the awesome army green. I absolutely LOVE this bag! I am petite in height only 5’3 and I have problems with my shoulders and back. I can say it is the most comfortable camera bag. I can walk around with it all day and it does not cause me pain which is a very important factor for me. I finally have a long lasting, well designed camera bag that doesn’t hinder me from going out to shoot. Thank you Nick, you were most helpful!👍🏽❤️

@@uticabruce2290 probably because most of these companies try to build a bag for everything. Weather it’s photography or day pack or work bag or hiker. There is no all in one possible. Surprised to hear this! I have actually always ranted about how the action X is the most comfortable bag I have ever tried. I have been looking at one of the Shimoda bags for the last couple years. But the adjustable harness system looks like a very obvious failure point. You have a bag that could go 30-40lbs hanging on a narrowly stitched ladder structure. Is this a valid concern? If it didnt fail for Nick, it shouldn't for me, but I cant help but see that "feature" as a vulnerable gimmick.

That autofocus breathes and wobbles more than an Olympian speed walker. Sorry but that's really distracting. Anyway, I'm excited for my green 35 L version.

I'm short at 5'1, I'm tired of buying bags meant for tall big people. Do they have a bag meant for short people?

You would be best with an E25 and Petite shoulder straps. My partner is 5'1 and uses that set up.

@@ShimodaDesigns It does fit in my large dslr core, but the squeeze of the eye peace does cause it to pop off with any usage of the bag. That's the point I'm trying to make when it comes to real world use.
