You can play any dev at any point in your turn. Usually it just makes no sense to use them before in case you 7 out or you roll something which changes the need for something like a yop. That move is why Dylan is the goat

Probably not, since the second starting wheat is very valuable here.

If you take the 6, then orange can cut your 3:1 port if they get lucky rolls with road, or pull development cards. The 62 locks orange from attempting to build through you, while also starting you with an additional wheat. You never are porting sheep in this game anyway.

Orange builds through you along the 10-2. It doesn't make sense to spend 3 roads instead of 2 to get to the 3:1 port. The Pros for building on the 6-2 is that the 2 is never blocked, you get an extra starting Wheat making your first city faster. You probably get one Wheat roll from the 2 during the game, which could happen while your 6 Wheat is blocked. But I still prefer the 6 Sheep port because it makes Blacks first settle take a lot longer, meaning they probably go City then 8-3 after. With an Early City Black becomes the Robber target, probably on the 6 Wheat, but you have the flexibility of the Sheep port to work around that. The Sheep port also gets you to the 3:1 port faster.

@@Funglutton Black's settlement doesn't come slower, they actually just go to the wood port instead, which is probably what they should have done in the first place. Going to the sheep port was a defensive move but not really that beneficial to Black, they should have went to the wood port with all that wood they were on, and then prioritized getting to the 5/6/11 afterwards. But that's why Dylan didn't take the sheep port straight away, because he figured black would do that since it was so good to their game.

@@JetWarrior it's slower because the 8-3 is significantly better for their game, so they would double road to that. Settling on only the 3 is helping flexibility but doesn't do much in the way of production. After they get that they need to wait for a 5 or 3 to roll four times (or a 12) to road to the 5-6-11 to really take advantage of the Wood port. I think the way to play it is to City the Wheat-Ore because those spots will be blocked a lot so you want to maximise their income for Dev cards and future cities, plus the Wheat is very tradable. Use Dev cards to help secure the 8-3 (RB, rob, YoP) and then get the 5-6-11 if still available. Instead of the city you can just focus on devs to keep a lower profile but I honestly think you get blocked anyway on the Ore Wheat, so may as well grab the city if you can.

I've been traveling a lot. I'm in Thailand and considering moving there permanently instead of the US. Things have calmed down for me a lot and will be back to a normal schedule.
