@@DyLightedPlaysCatan I thought it was actually a better play to not take it. If you made that connection, you would have had a target on your back all game. It would have been too aggressive too early imo

@@FriedChckn13 I"m still not 100% sure because taking road would get me robbed more, but crushing my road competition early would be a very important investment for the future.

@@DyLightedPlaysCatan But if other players thought you going for road was a given because it might be so easy for you, they would trade with you less during critical moments. Also, they would spend less resources on roads themselves and instead invest in development cards, which gives them more opportunities for soldiers and cards like monopoly. Idk personally I think early longest road is a trap and it’s better to just set yourself up for a snake in the lategame like you did. Having longest road early is like having two visible victory point cards for all other players to see.

I play in a tournament where the boards are a different type (shuffle board), but I try to avoid expansions since it limits the audience hard since not many know how to play the expansions.

Great question - I don't read chat during tournament games, but I will address them by saying "chat" acknowledging I am streaming. Hope that makes sense! You can see in a few of my games of my chat yelling at me to make the obvious best move but then I completely whiff it lol.

Sometimes, it's better to get you rare resources early on rather leading (Especially since his brick resource is very common). Because when you lead, you will most likely get robbed often, which is exactly what happened.

@@johnehab5579 so in either scenario would he have used the ore to buy a dev over using the brick to settle? i would much rather settle first then buy a dev later, cos like...8 is a high number but its not a guarantee to hit and you dont know what other turn u will have sufficient sources to settle. dylighted also didnt have a good source of wheat so i feel like going for a dev here comes with a huge opportunity cost (1 point + increased production)

In that spot it's a lot harder to dirty monopoly as everyone just got sheep. Also I would be porting away the sheep so it's inherently less efficient.
