Kevin O'Leary might be interested as well, but Robert wants her to take his deal immediately or he'll pull the offer. Will she take the risk and hear Kevin out? Nah, it's exactly what @iwishiwasthomasshelby said. You're just greedy. In Nigeria, besides it being insanely difficult to raise money, investors just give you money and most of the time, they sit back and allow you do all the work, so when you get the deal you asked for, and an investor who isn't trying to low-ball you, you take it and run. She was probably thinking she could get $250k for 4% or 3%. The fact that she left after having missed out and was still saying that she thinks she should hear everyone out shows that she has fundamental problems in her reasoning. The fact is that most of the time, you won't get 5 investors sitting at the table. You just get to speak to one at a time.... So when you get what you're looking for, you take it and run with it.

@@slimchiggy No, you dont take it and run. Some sharks are better than others in different areas. There's nothing wrong with listening to all of their offers. There have been plenty of cases where multiple sharks made offers and the entrepreneurs ended up with better deals because the shark that they picked was more experienced in the industry and offered more money. Heck, there were other episodes where they tell the presenters to listen to the other offers before they choose a shark. " In Nigeria, besides it being insanely difficult to raise money, investors just give you money and most of the time, they sit back and allow you do all the work" but the sharks don't just sit back and let you do whatever you want. They also give these business owners advice and they use their connections and resources to help the companies grow. These people don't just come on the show to get money, they also come on the show to get the Shark's connections and expertise.

That's hardly the point. It's not uncommon for sharks to start competing against each other and striking a deal worth more than the original ask. I'm also 100% sure that she did her homework before the show, and knew who would be best suited for her business. It's not that often that the sharks but the presenter in this kind of a spot where they are asking for an immediate answer. It may be a valid tactic at times, but I'd say it's actually pretty rude. One does have to keep in mind that this is a television show, however.

Robert's always the last choice on this show. It's so sad. He has to pay such a premium for his investments because he gets out-competed by someone else. When he plays a power move against someone with the worst reputation on the show, he still gets rejected. I think he has the best personality out of all of them.

Look into it, it’s not Robert’s fault. Robert is the least popular shark. Many entrepreneurs take his offers because they don’t have others, and then back out of it after more thought. Robert is a great shark who normally invests in entrepreneurs, which makes it all the sadder when these entrepreneurs he believes in reject him after he takes a flier

True but in business, you have to hear all the offers before making a conclusion. Even if you get what you want, someone may give you something better. For example, Scrub Daddy asked for $100,000 for 30% but received $200,000 for 20%.

Always accept an offer. You can always back out later during DD. It happens all the time. On Dragons Den CA though, the Dragons started adding break fees that the entrepreneur has to pay if they don't close the deal.

"She wasn't asking others for it". She was expecting even a lower percentage. That has happened multiple times in shark tank. It's also possible that she didn't want Robert which is understandable because he has highest percentage of not going through with the deals out of all the sharks.

The wheel of greed started turning for her. 🤦 So what did she expect was a better deal than what she exactly asked for? A royalty deal or something? You can't even say "Kevin is in this space" because Robert has a wine business as well. She heard the offer, then she heard that someone else was interested so she started overvaluing her business. If you come in the tank asking for 250 for 5, when someone offers you 250 for 5 take it!

If you watch the full pitch you'll know this company has already raised millions on a 35 million dollar valuation. She was giving away a part of her own shares to the sharks on a 5 million dollar valuation, just to get one of them on board. So I don't think this has anything to do with greed at all. I think she just didn't want to work with Robert, which to me is completely understandable given his attitude in the tank and his bad track record with closing deals

I don't think she made a mistake. With Robert putting a gun to her head like this at this stage, you never know how he would behave once he gets into business with her. Secondly, if I'm not mistaken, Robert has a bad closing rate post-show negotiations. Therefore I'd definitely have reservations dealing with Robert. Finally, if Robert offered what she asked for and Kevin only wanted 10%, this means that the business has great potential. Therefore, she is destined to succeed irrespective of getting of deal in the tank

How are you negotiating when someone offers exactly what you ask for? I think some of these entrepreneurs forget that they are the ones asking for money. They aren't owed an offer. Melanie fumbled the bag. I'm glad Robert showed her the door.

What’s up with this title? Cut her some slack, it makes all the sense in the world to hear everyone out… the fact that she’s giving equity out of her own stake at a discount and they don’t appreciate that, it seems like Robert is the shortsighted one. I hate when they do that and get so arrogant. Robert is right, he offered what she asked for, but there is a chance another Shark could ask for less equity, or offer more money for equity, or even join Robert for a better deal with two Sharks. Kevin also has the wedding platform and he could have brought a good deal for her. Robert has a bad record closing deals. It is really easy to say "she should have said yes!" sitting on a couch and not being in the tank.

i think they should make a rule where everyone is allowed to state their deal before the entrepreneur accepts or declines. I looked up her website for restaurants that carry this product in LA. Out of the 10 or so, when I looked at the restaurant's menu, I found only one that carries it. I don't drink alcohol, so I was excited about the product. However, having seen the pitch, her personality is a little off-putting. The bravado at the end was incredulous. If someone like Robert offers you exactly what you want, you don't hold out for what Mr. Wonderful has to say. How many times has he said on the show that 5% doesn't get him out of bed and how many times has he offered a deal without a royalty? In this case, he didn't ask for royalty but just given his track record, as much as I love his humor, he's not the shark to hedge your bets on. For those saying that Robert doesn't close a good number of deals, well, I am not sure Mr. Wonderful's track record is any better. Life is not kind to those who spit in the face of opportunity, so the way I see it she is the one who lost out. Mark hit the nail on the head about how much capital she'd have to spend to get to half that amount of revenue. A shark is an accelerator and the ego is justified. Can't say the same thing about the entrepreneur.

She's right on that. Robert was being an asshat, which isn't typical of him. The norm is that you hear out the offers and then negotiate or make a decision. This one played out differently.

Why would she listen to Kevin when he’s notorious for giving greedy offers. Kevin also had the upper hand because he could raise his equity knowing that no other sharks were in.

I did not get it , if u need something in your life you are offered exactly the same thing , whatelse u expect from anyone . There is no point in listening to other if one person understand our business, belive in us , ready to give what we want .And after that she said robert must be regretting, no, she is really greedy , she must have thought that if she got first offer whatever she asked for , she might also get better than this , which shows greed of person.

By watching the show, I've seen Sharks offering the same deal and then getting together (2 sharks for a bit more equity). Kevin also has the wedding platform and he could have brought a good deal for her. It is really easy to say "she should have said yes!" sitting on a couch and not being in the tank.

She missed the point. She made it about how Robert messed up. Not how she messed up. "I don't know if Robert will regret it, but I hope he lets others speak in the future". Rather than "I will not let anyone else speak in the future because it was my fault when I didn't act and jump on it when I should have". People these days blame others rather than themselves. Intellectual, but stupid at life decisions that matter.

I am all for someone wanting to hear all the offers it just makes sense but if she only had 57% of the company to mess with and anything over 7% would give her the lesser majority in her own company then why in the hell would you shop offers you don't have a very big window to shop with and a Betten man would tell you nine times out of ten the other sharks offer isn't going to be better then the exact offer you came in asking for especially Kevin's he's the greediest of all sharks so I say again with only 7% to play with and more realistically 6%, why would you not just take the offer you asked for

I’m in sales professionally. While what Robert did seems aggressive on the surface, I understand where it comes from. Businesses come in to sell to the sharks, but the sharks are also there to sell themselves. The sharks value their time and expertise, and if they offer the business exactly what they want and they don’t take it, it comes across as they don’t value that shark. Sharks are just individuals, they don’t like competition and will do whatever they need to close, especially if they see a good business. Shark tank is an atypical B2B meeting format though because there’s more than 2 parties involved. That’s very uncommon in the real world.
