This was from "Elvis, Aloha From Hawaii" it was the first concert broadcast live around the world via satellite. Over 1 billion people tuned in to watch and I was one of them. Elvis, to a lot of countries at that time, was what America was, he made America proud. This concert raised over 75,000 dollars for cancer research and Elvis even gave his part of the earnings. This song is beautiful and heartfelt, Elvis didn't need to dance around on stage all of the time and when he did it was what the music made him feel, he didn't need a choreographer. His musical instrument was his voice and NO ONE can even come close to the GOD-GIVEN talent he had. There is ELVIS and then there is everyone else.

Elvis is the highest selling single artist of all time no one will ever catch up.. that's how far ahead of everyone he is. 1.5 billion people watched this concert, the first ever satellite concert. He's the King for a reason, even the likes of James Brown, Little Richard, BB King and Muhammad Ali call him the King and beloved friend. MJ got his moves and sense of style from Elvis. Elvis was the first, he paved the way for everybody. You got to remember he shot to stardom in the early 50s as a teenager and then went to the army for 2 yrs came home did 30 movies in the 60s, then returned to the stage and dominated Vegas and the rest of the country for a decade. This performance is 4 yrs before he died at age 42. Go check out his performances from the 50s, 60s and early 70s. Maybe start with Hound Dog on the Milton Berle show.

There are so many different songs. It also depends on what genre you like: Gospel, Rock'n'Roll, Blues, Rockabilly, Country. He had a wide variety of genres. And you obvously prefer faster songs. So I recommend "Jailhouse Rock", "Blue Suede Shoes" or "Hound dog". But these are even older, from the 50s. It's very hard to choose. I think you just have to try one. I prefer his gospel songs. He recorded slower and faster Gospel songs. Some of the faster ones are "Johua fit the battle of Jericho" or "Swing down sweet chariot". I never understood why people constantly try to compare Elvis with Michael Jackson. They are two very different artists. The only thing where there's a connection between them is Lisa Marie Presley, the daughter of Elvis. She was married a very short time to Michael Jackson. Michael is a trained dancer since his early childhood. Elvis had his moves but no strict choreography. He's a singer in the first place. You shouldn't expect seeing Elvis dance like Michael J..

This is a patriotic song with three different parts referencing our history back to the Civil War era. It's beautifully shifts from tender to grand, full of emotion. But you made yourself oblivious to all of that by constantly interrupting & talking about Michael Jackson. You simply didn't listen. And this isn't an example of how Elvis set the world on fire when he started out in the 50's, considered wild, rebellious & innovative. This is the older, mature Elvis showing his love of our country, backed by a full orchestra & great backup singers. Maybe one day you'll be mature enough to appreciate it. Maybe. Btw, you should watch the new movie about him. You'd get an idea of the impact he made.

Love your reactions young man, I saw Elvis perform in 1973 it was AMAZING. Just some background to this song is a tribute to a hard time in American history, the first song Dixie refers to the South, the second Battle Hymn of the Republic the North, the third Hush Little Baby a hymn sung by slaves during slavery. These three ideologies and sad situations converged 1861 - 1865 the Civil War that decided the fate of millions of Americans. I know you have studied the Civil War in school, a terrible war pitting brother against brother and deciding the fate of millions of slaves, that's why it's a serious subject not Rock or Pop music.

I dont know how anyone could not be touched by Elvis singing this song. Michael Jackson was great but they were 2 different singers. Elvis could do everything musically. Elvis was a master of all genres of music, he had incomparable presence and charisma. Elvis also acted in 31 movies. Go watch the scene for his 1957 movie, Jailhouse Rock, which is considered to be the 1st movie Video. Elvis is rated the 3 rd greatest singer of all time, where is Michael is not. Elvis had a great sense of humor, he was one of a kind. Elvis was named the King of Rock and Roll, whereas MJ named himself the King of Pop. Elvis sang rock, country, pop, gospel, R&B, soul and rockabilly and ballads. Elvis was a great dancer, and used his entire body, including his facial movement, expressions to interpret a song. This program was literally history in the making! It was the first program to ever be broadcast worldwide by satellite. It was a huge deal. Elvis was asked to do it because he was known worldwide. They knew he could handle it! Just for the record, I also learned to appreciate how incredibly talented MJ was. There's no need for comparison. One doesn't have to be "better" than the other. To really blow your mind; MJ was married to Elvis's daughter for a while!

Elvis is far bigger. That's why he's known as the king. MJ was only for pop. Elvis hit and literally made Rock n Roll. He sang Gospel, Blues and Jazz as well. He was raised in a black community. Watch the movie Elvis. You'll learn a lot. I'm 62 and lived my whole life listening, singing along, and seeing him in concert.

Man, you have got to use your common sense and realize this was a slow song and even Michael Jackson did not do all his awesome dance moves when he was singing a ballad. And even more common sense will tell you the audience will not get up and dance around to this song. If you do want to give it another try, watch Elvis and the Black Community. Otherwise if this will be your first and last Elvis reaction, maybe it’s best to leave it to the ones that can look more at his control he has of that awesome band an orchestra and stage presence as well as never seen before footage of interactions with the audience. FYI- this is only 1 of 700 or so other songs he had during his short singing career. He started at 18 and he died at 42 years old

I am in my 50s and grew up listening to his music because my Mom loved him. I saw him live in concert when I was 5 yrs old. Listen to his words and the strength of his voice. He doesn't have to swear and grab his crotch for attention. You don't have to move around on stage to be powerful. The music today in my opinion does not compare. I listen to all genre's of music from the 50s to hard rock, Motown to pop etc. Most singers can't sing worth crap live like Elvis did. They now need pre recorded crap and electronics to sound good. You hear a recording of an artist on the radio now a days and you are like.....ok it sounds good. Then you go see the person live in concert and your like wtf they sound awful. Elvis was Elvis and put on great shows and always sounded the same in his albums as he did in live performances. His songs all had so much meaning in them. Not like today where most is vulgar.

Watch Got a Feeling in my Body with Elvis & MJ. Elvis had a superior voice , presense.. MJ was choreographed. EP moved to the music. You felt him in your soul. He sang everything. Sometimes just listen with more of an open mind and don't pause as often. 70's Vegas Elvis you get more moving. There's no autotune of any kind. Just pure vocal talent. EP had a 2.5 octave range. He sang with emotion and passion. He is in all 5 Hall of fames for music: country, gospel, Rock and Roll, Rockabilly, & R & B. He could sing all genre's of music.

Elvis is really remembered for his vocal range and ability. Every song he did was completely different from the one before. He is very much worth checking out, and I agree that you SHOULD check out more of his videos. I really liked his 1968 comeback special ... the dress rehearsal BEFORE the actual concert was more raw. He did it in the round with a few of his bandmates, and his R&B side really shone through. Try looking at the "Lawdy Miss Clawdy" or "Baby What You Want Me To Do" videos. They just may change your mind about what an amazing vocalist he truly was.

Pzo, the significance of the song itself is why this is so famous and powerful. The song American Trilogy brilliantly combines Dixie, The Battle Hymn of the Republic, and an old slave song - the point is to unite people. Take an anthem of the south, an anthem of the north, and a sad beautiful slave song, then add a full orchestra and Elvis’ raw power. That’s American Trilogy. When you know the history of the song, it’ll change your enjoyment of this performance.
@yambo59
@yambo59 Жыл бұрын
This is called American Trilogy for a reason, its three different songs in one - "Dixie", "Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "All my trials" - you need to show some patience think a little deeper than just flash and energy and realize Elvis sang ALL KINDS OF MUSIC including GOSPEL and this song had serious feelling and emotion in it and no one had even heard of rap in this era -- its one of the best performances he ever gave and those who understand and know the meaning of the lyrics know this is a heartfelt emotional song, not every song is a banging thumping crowd monster some songs have real meaning and stories behind them and this is just ONE SONG out of this amazing concert, others have a much different tone so dont judge until youve heard more of this Aloha Hawaii concert - also this was the very first worldwide satellite broadcast of a TV concert in history, the only worldwide feed before this was when the United States had landed men on the moon for the very first time in history. Theres a lot of context you just dont know, there were many firsts with Elvis and not every song is a banger some are deeper than all that. Elvis sang gospel from his early youth and won gold records for his gospel singing and some of that comes through in certain performances and anyone thats been to a black church where they take their gospel music serious knows this. Youre too young to appreciate this kind of song, you didnt grow up in the era and do not compare Elvis to michael jackson, its not the same thing, youre looking in the worng performance for flash and jizz this song is three songs in one/a trilogy and it isnt about head bangin' flash its about many things including the countrys civil war in the battle hymn of the republic - a song youve probably never heard - and its also about a mans son dying on the battlefield in the civil war - youre comparing apples to oranges between Elvis and Michael Jackson both were great in their own way but your too young and dont have enough knowledge of this past era to even know what youre hearing and seeing. Many that know what this song is about cry when they hear it.

Elvis singing a ballad was popular, singing r&r was he was known for especially if it included dance moves ! What Elvis was renowned for was gospel, I think he won more awards for his gospel albums than any other music he performed. You need to start back in his early days up to near the end of his career . You can’t expect r&r and pop all the time, Elvis enjoyed it but as I said previously he loved Gospel & Ballads…he got tired of having to perform like someone in a circus & wanted to do all kinds of music. MJ came 20 years after Elvis’s career started, and music changed in the late 60’s & 70’s so younger generations changed to BUT they still loved The King no matter what he sang. Start in the 50’s with Hound Dog and go forward to watch his amazing career. I love both Elvis & Michael Jackson & what they accomplished throughout their careers ☮️💜💥

MJ was the King of Pop. Elvis is in the Hall of Fame for over 5 different genres of music. This is also 1 song out of an entire concert that was the first concert ever televised worldwide by satellite. Elvis was a person who never stuck to one single genre of music. He was his own genre even though people call him the King of Rock & Roll to this day. More energetic? Try Hound Dog (Milton Berle Show). Jailhouse Rock (clip from the movie). Suspicious Minds and Polk Salad Annie (Las Vegas 1970). For a look at audience reaction watch Love Me Tender (Las Vegas). I saw Elvis in concert twice as a kid in 1972. Believe me the audience reaction was something else. Women screaming abd crying. Fighting to get one of hus scarves he threw into the audience. It was amazing.

This is not a dancey number? It's solemn and anthemic. He did plenty of moving especially in his early years (1950s) and up to about 1972. He did slow down a bit after that. This was a TV, live concert and the audience were not typical screaming fans that he'd get whilst touring.

You are actually the ONLY young black reactionist that I've seen who has been negative toward an Elvis song. Less than 2 minutes in, you're talking about how it's "calm" and instead of actually listening and watching the video WITHOUT constantly stopping and talking, you formed an immediate and negative opinion because it's not fast and upbeat. It would be a boring musical history if ALL songs were loud and had a fast tempo. Elvis has a huge musical catalogue and it's a mix of rock & roll, rock, country, blues, movie tunes, and ballads. If you really want to be a successful reactionist, you need to open your mind and understand that music is a complex and varied art.

Elvis had a long career well into into his 40s, And he was extremely versatile as a performer. Remember he was a controversial performer in the 50s & 60s because of his moves and R& R music . And MJ said himself that He was heavily influenced by Elvis! You're young so it's perfectly understandable that you would have little appreciation for more standard " calm" music that was just part of the old music, but that's exactly what made the great old music so wonderful! Todays music is rarely versatile, back in the day Rock, Blues, Country , disco , crooners made up the landscape we called music back then . Watch more " old Elvis "

Let me try to clear up some of the confusion for if I can. Elvis was a very patriotic person. The American trilogy has a lot to do with back in the day our country was at war with each other (the war between the North and the South) it was over slavery. The American trilogy is paying homage to that time period and that war. Elvis sang all types of music. He started with what they called rockabilly and this moved to rock and roll, rhythm and blues, gospel, etc. I absolutely love the American trilogy, did you notice that while he was singing he was actually making movements to direct the orchestra. Also, just a little bit of History, did you know that Elvis' daughter Lisa Marie married Michael Jackson. The marriage only lasted 2 years.

Ok you picked GOSPEL SONG! Lol !!! Wrong song to compare to MJ to. This is not supposed to be hype. Elvis created hype and vibe. Elvis was singing and dancing before MJ was born. Rock and roll was made up of three main genres. Elvis mastered all 3 and was a founding father of Rock and Roll. He came from the white and black gospel worlds similar to Mahalia Jackson. But he also absolutely mastered the blues and white country music. He bonded all three together and was a social phenom. He broke racism and racial barriers in the music business and in society
