A tip for people with silnylon trekking pole tents, after some rain you usually don't need to get outside and adjust the tension for each point individually. Just set the trekking pole up initially at a couple degrees of angle, and then when it gets wet, pull the bottom of the pole closer to the tent bathtub, straightening it from the bottom; increasing tension on the top of the tent and removing the sag.

My wife and I have the lanshan 2 and the lanshan 2 pro. I knew once seam sealed, it wouldn't leak. And you showed the fortius tent and compared it to the lanshan 1 pro. To be fair, the fortius is a 2 person tent so you can't really compare the sagging to a 1 person lanshan. The lanshan will sag a little but I've never had to make more than 1 adjustment after the sagging happened and no more sagging. The lanshan 2 and 2 pro are both incredible tents for the money. Properly set up, they won't sag much or need continuous adjustments. Usually, just 1 and done. The zpacks duplex is definitely half the weight of the lanshan 2 pro and the fortius but price vs. Those other 2 is where the lanshan shines. And, they can easily be made better with minor mods. I recommend the 3f ul lanshan 2 and 2 pro to anyone looking for a quality tent at a very budget price! I just ordered the Durston xmid 2 and am looking forward to putting it side by side with our lanshans and our duplex.

How did you manage to waterproof through the elastic tiebacks on the pro? My 2p pro leaks through the elastic despite my best efforts with seamgrip. I thought it was waterproof for quite a while, because it only leaks in very heavy rain. Light, moderate, even the low end of heavy, it won't leak even if saturated for days. But when it pours, those wick steady drips down the mesh and into the bathtub.
@one2869
@one2869 Жыл бұрын
@@RegrettablyLongwinded I mixed seam sealer with a little acetone to thin it down. Put it directly onto the elastic straps and around where they are sewn into the tent. With it thinned down, it seeps into every little crevice. It also makes the seam sealer almost unnoticeable. No shiny spots that scream "hey, I seam sealed this myself. "

Everyone I know that has these, love them. Yes it gets bad condensation when low winds as single skin, but for weight, room and quality, it’s tough to beat these. Tbh I think the non-pro version is great too. Heavier as double wall, but that solves getting your down bag wet. Amazing for the money imo
@SneakyCaleb
@SneakyCaleb Жыл бұрын
All that’s true besides one major thing. The regular model is shorter so anyone over 5”11 will touch each end. That makes the inner mesh pointless and you’ll end up more wet. I own both and I’m 6”2. The pro is the way to go if you are taller.
@tei1337
@tei1337 Жыл бұрын
@@SneakyCaleb old video, but do you have the older pre 2021 version? Because after that they added 8" to the length, and the inner dimensions are now claimed to be the same as the pro.

I have 2 Lanshan 1 PRO tents. 1 pc 3 season and 1 pc 4 season. I use 3-season ones in the forest and 4-season ones in the Swedish mountains. I have now used them for 3 years and they work very well. They are seam sealed. I have during these 3 years more is 60 nights in them. I've had them in heavy 24-hour rain and wind up to 20 sec/m wind in the Swedish mountain world without problems. That's a lot of tent for that money. I trust them 100%. I use my hiking pole for the tent because then I can increase or decrease the ventilation depending on the weather.

I’ve heard that the pro versions suffer with condensation more than the standard versions. I do own a lanshan 2 pro and cannot say it performed badly condensation-wise, or in any other respect. It has performed outstanding in UK weather (wet and horrible) on the 2 occasions I’ve used it. It’s not my go-to but I do use it at least twice a year, although yet to use it in the middle of winter. It is reasonably well made and very light. That’s all I can say. Well worth the price they cost to buy 😅

Have you ever done the silicone hack to seal things? If not, this could be a whole video! Kind of a game changer imo- You Mix some denatured alcohol into pure silicone caulk or sealant, which makes it less viscous, and thins it out some. Then use a small paintbrush, like 1/8 for artists, or even a small chip brush or whatever, and you "paint" it onto seams, or anywhere you want to seal up. It's seriously genius, and you can make the solution even thinner, and apply a thin layer to any tarps, jackets, shoes, boots, pants, vehicles, boats, groundsheets, umbrella, anything you want a thin flexible 100% waterproof layer on. It's endless what you start realizing you can use this for! But sealing up around zipper repairs, tent repairs where you have a small tear you have to sew up, this makes it a permanent mechanically strong joint as well, depending on the quality of your specific silicone blend. Not all silicone is the same although they all say 100% silicone. Some of the best stuff EVER, for camping and bushcraft is the "Shoe Goo", you can get at walmart or hardware stores. It's actually more formulated for rugged use, and bonds better to all materials. Telling you, once you add this to your arsenal, it will be essential as edc kit! The stuff is a miracle for seam sealing and repairs. Literally almost anything you can imagine breaking, chances are, I'll be like, well, I guess I'll just silicone it for now, tape it up. So many even temporary repairs turn out just lasting forever. Handles on things, broken containers, things that crack, even just repairing old seams that come up, etc.. Thin it out, paint it on, let it cure, it's flexible, non intrusive, dries clear, and absolutely waterproof with no margin or error when you just cover everything that could leak. And the extra weight is not noticable. a tiny tube of sealant could do 50 tents probably. So the weight of 1/50th a little tube of caulk, for 100% certainty of dryness and peace of mind is beyond worth it. Try it out for some raw untaped seams some time, or build a custom tarp tent.. like I said it's a game changer!

I've got the Lanshan Pro 1 and it's pretty awesome for the price, weight and internal space. I got mine seam sealed at the factory (it was an optional (paid) extra) and hasn't leaked once. Fair comments about the stretching, it is something to keep on top of in the rain. Condensation is a bit of a problem though - there have been times in the wind where I'm getting rained on inside as the condensation gets dislodged, but again... it's a single skin tent and condensation is generally an issue with all such tents. Overall, for the price and weight, it's a great tent.

Question… when you reviewed the River Country Products Trekker1, you stated over and over how you shouldn’t have to seam seal a tent when you buy it. With the Lanshan, you didn’t mind at all. I like both tents (RCP and Lanshan) and I think both are built well. I have no preference of one over the other. I do own a RCP silnylon tent that they sold to me as a prototype and I seam sealed it. It’s almost identical to the Lanshan 1 person. However, I’m not saying RCP are better… I’m simply curious as to why you said you shouldn’t have to seam seal one, but happily did the other. Thanks

Luke, maybe you or your followers might know the answer to my question. Would a silicone waterproofing spray, applied after a seam sealing help prevent the tent fabric from soaking up water and maybe reduce stretching? I’ve restored the water repellency of old umbrellas, cotton Army jackets and leather moccasins. I like the silicone waterproofing spray. What does everyone think? Kentucky

Have you bought a Durston X-Mid tent to test out? They should still be in stock for a November delivery (if you pay the extra $20 air freight shipping). We want your thoughts on this tent!

Always loved your test reviews. I am not even Chinese but must you say "Chinese Tent" in the title? I don't remember you specifying origin of country for other products. I wouldn't even talking where almost everything is "made in". Either way,,, thank you for the video as I have been really considering this tent but also highly considering tent from "Durston".
