This is what I'd consider a supplemental martial art. I believe you would need a good base in a sports based martial art like Muay Thai or Boxing before learning this, as the instructor himself has.

Not really, the system stands on its own, even thou it borrows from other systems we modify and adapt for urban street fight/ self defense we train folks from the simple to the complex. It has the elbows and knees of Muay Thai, the head butts of Combat Sambo and Krav Maga weapon disarms, ground survival ( BJJ on steroids). I trained military members and civilians for years in these systems and one of our students was deployed in Asia applied the system and returned home to say the least. Trained housewives to SF and they all get it quickly. Drill, drill, drill! It’s an amazing system that stands alone and supercharges your foundational and background fighting art. It helps knowing Muay Thai, Judo or BJJ it makes it quicker to pick up but not necessary. Godspeed!

The Itay Gil method of Protect Krav Maga is tier 1 with the only efficient, effective, knife defenses I've ever seen. And I've been practicing martial arts and combat sports since 1982. Taught combatives in the Army. Survived 14 years in a notorious violent prison. Lived in a 3rd world latin american country. Witnessed more murders and survived more life or death conflicts than I've done anything else on earth. Itay Gil Protect Krav Maga is the only Israeli defense school I'd cosign. Todah. Shalom.

The orev 2 sicari knife As well as others created by Mike and Nir are the most awesome combat knives made today. Haganah is so much more than just hand to hand and weapons fighting. Amazing reminders and key tips for old and new in this video! =) I remember first studying JKD about 32 yrs ago. We incorporated a lot of Filipino martial arts (arnis, kali, escrima, dumog, etc), Muay Thai, BJJ, judo, boxing, wrestling, savate, etc...list goes on and we were fortunate to have our JKD instructor (Pete in Toronto) be so diversified and also encouraged us at that time to continue learning other arts as JKD encourages. New subbie here and loving your content. Im going to binge watch your vids in the next few days/weeks!!! ;) Keep up the amazing work and shout out from Toronto and Montreal!

@@inside_fighting "Haganah" literally means "The Defense" in Hebrew. It was the name of the militia that became the Israeli Defense Force when Israel became a state. "Krav Maga" literally means "close combat." "K rav" means combat, so you see it in other variant arts as well. It really all just equates to "combatives" though specifics vary instructor to instructor.

Great stuff 😎. Finally, someone showing get out of the line of fire with a gun disarm. I automatically dismiss anyone that doesn't teach that. However, in my own practice I find my best opportunity to take the gun is when I first take the initiative, meaning hand(s) on the gun. I find "shocking them" usually is when they get a better grip on the gun, making it harder to take away. Does anyone have a different experience and how do you make "the shock" more effective???

Interesting video. I’d like to see movie with this self-defense system as the inspiration. It would be cool! The obvious difficulty is pressure testing it, since you can’t have guys breaking each others ankles in practice, for example. That doesn’t necessarily mean it wouldn’t be effective, but it does mean it’s difficult to get the complete muscle memory and full repetitions on par with live situations. I’d be curious to hear your thoughts on that point. I don’t have any experience with self-defense systems like this one to speak to how it translates into real-life effectiveness.

Pretty much, most Israeli martial arts (and I say this as someone who has studied KM and Kapap for twenty years) are a modification or combo of KM and Kapap. Or you get like urban KM which is a uk variant KM crossed with BJJ/MMA. A few schools who want to stay out of the influence of the KM federations refer to themselves as "Haganah".

It’s weird to me to spend so much time on the technical details of a self defense scenario without ever once talking about the context. Are you a police officer? Civilian? Bouncer? Are you ready to kill the other person? Just want to ensure your own safety? Do you fear for your life? How much force can you legally exerce? My big issue with most self defense is that these parameters are rarely discussed, or if they are it’s not the part that typically makes it on to KZfaq…

Interesting. Krav Maga was developed as a military system in a life or death (kill or be killed) situation. It was not developed for training in a shopping mall with soccer parents observing and accepting - soccer parents are probably not so comfortable seeing their children taught how to kill. Also, it is hard to know where and what the instructor learned that serves as a basis for the so-called Krav Maga training (by the way, just because the instructor may be Israeli is not a guarantee that he or she was actually trained, or well-trained). Similarly, I have seen videos of experts talking about krav maga as a mediocre martial art. However, they are talking about what is trained as krav maga in the shopping malls. True krav maga is not going to be taught, in all likelihood, to the public. Even in, much less outside of Israel. Having said all that, it was very interesting to see this other (new?) Israeli martial art, which is explicitly self-defense oriented. The instructor was also interesting, in that he does not "look like" your typical martial arts instructor. Other than being a tall guy, he looks like any run of the mill professional or dad, which is also a plus. The things demonstrated were both interesting, and I think effective. One thing from krav maga that, although he didn't say it explicitly, is that you always move forward, take the aggression to the attacker, and keep attacking until he or she is incapable of doing any more harm. This was your third video that I watched, and as you noted, after three we should "like" and subscribe. So I did. The other two - the last one was the Italian family-passed-down knife fighting (great stuff) and the first had to do with a prison-based fighting style. But I like how you present martial arts - unlike a show I saw a day or two ago in which two guys 'graded' martial arts for effectiveness as self-defense systems. I understood the concept, but there are so many problems with that, including disrespect for other styles, that I kind of lost respect for what they were presenting. Your presentations, so far (I am all of a three-time expert) have been more respectful, discussing aspects of martial arts that are or can be useful. You can also discuss what may not be so useful, but do it in a way that doesn't appear like, "I'm all that and they're not."
