Josh you flew directly over my bay house, that was Matagorta island as a child our family wiukd camp on that very same airfield under the wing of a 180, port O Conner is ine if the best places to go fishing in the world, watching the flight from gulf coast down past the Brazos river, san Bernard, down the coast over the Colorado river I've done many times, This was the best one I've seen yet, the fist time I landed with my dad at Matagorta was in a 140 at 6mos old im 57 now you need to go and just explore that area lots of ww2 history Fky safe

Thanks for this. One of my fav memories from when I was flying was a clear Sunday afternoon flight down the South Carolina coast from an airport that no longer exists on Isle of Palms, near Charleston, to Hilton Head (HHI). One of those beautiful days and memories.

My friend and I landed on a beach just outside Oceanside, Cal. (c. 1967) I think I was 18 and Pat was 21. Aircraft was a C-150. We were based out of Riverside, Cal. Funny now. I'll keep it short.On the landing, the airplane encountered the 4" deep water, lots of spray, (5 feet in the air) and you didn't need brakes, but the landing was "not too bad overall".We had a nice visit at the beach and when it came time to effect a takeoff...trouble.You'd wait until the water receded, and "go for it", but before you could get to takeoff speed, the next wave would present itself. With 2 of us in the C-150, you might get to 40 MPH and hit that shallow, 4" water and lose all speed. As the waves would wash up and result in shallow water in the pathway, like say 4 inches deep, you couldn't avoid the shallow water because if you went away from the water, you'd wind up in the soft sand, so you had to try to "time it". Good luck. After maybe 2 failed attempts, we altered the plan.Pat weighed about 135 and I weighed about 185, so guess who had to "hike out".It all turned out OK, but DO take into account that you might have a challenge getting back out because of the shallow water, and by ALL MEANS, know the tides. You don't want it to get worse as the time passes.Anyway- I watched from the beach as Pat attempted the takeoff (flaps 10), he'd get up to about 40 MPH and the next wave would kill off his speed. He made it (barely) on I think the third attempt. We had prearranged that I would hitchhike back to Oceanside airport and meet there. It all worked out.The guy that gave me a ride was so taken by my story that he drove me all the way to the airport, where we found Pat washing the aircraft before bring it back to the aeroclub. =PC=

Love the Austin view. When I took off from Sonoma Skypark, 0Q9, off runway 26, I could look to my left and see some of the San Francisco skyline some 60 miles away on a clear day. Amazing...Thanks for the video Josh!

Josh, since you enjoy "eating out destinations" may I suggest the Picket House in Woodville. We have a very nice airport and the food is delicious. The main course is always fried chicken served family style. I'll pick you up at the airport free of charge (lol) and lunch is on me.

I really enjoy your videos with the diffrent camera angles. I get to see places i never would otherwise.

When I did my first solo from Doylestown (DYL) to Lancaster (LNS) and back. I was able to see Downtown Philadelphia which where I live in, and Heritage airport (PTW) on the returning leg to Doylestown. It was one of my favorite scenic flight in 2019, now preparing for a father and son flight in a few days :)

I've done a couple of beach runs just like that! Some of the best flying you can do is low and slow! I love it man!

Really appreciate your discussion on ditching the plane in the shallow surf vs risking people on the beach. My priorities are people on the ground, passengers, me (PIC), all property.

I fly in Colorado so have more than 25 miles visibility is usually the case, when you spoke of it being clear I was thinking it was hazy just a difference of what your accustomed to I suppose.

I’ve been to that exact cafe last November!! I flew my grandparents over there from pearland regional airport that evening for some dinner. My mom drove there with my little sister so once we finished eating my mom flew back with me while my grandparents drove back with my little sister. Overall, the trip was amazing. Keep up the good work man I hope I can meet you one day!!

One additional concern is pilots are requested to maintain 2000’ over wildlife/wilderness areas, which are charted in numerous areas down the coast. Great job guys!

Man... that was a blast from the past. Once you got to East Matagorda Bay from there all the way to POC, Indianola, Sea Drift, Long Mott that was my stomping grounds. When my kids were little we fished up and down the coast. I still go down there to photograph "stuff" when I'm home. There a little restaurant on the water down in Indianola that's decent but no place to land an aircraft or park it. I'm surprised that you didn't circle Matagorda Island lighthouse. It wasn't too far south of where you flew.

Great Josh! I thought Austin was cool with the sun reflecting off the class buildings. That Number 8 neutral density filter really helps to eliminate the strobe effect of the prop in your pictures!

Yes...I've done it during my flight training near Groton, CT, USA. Well, we flew a little lower than expected during our engine out training. My instructor pulled the throttle back and we got down to about 1000 feet over the beach. Well, when I had the beach made, my instructor put the power back in and nothing. A little carb heat later, and we were climbing back up. Nothing like training an emergency which almost led to a real emergency.

I’ve never seen your channel before but am I glad your channel showed up in my recommendations. I have lived in the area in between Matagorda and Lake Jackson . The town where they where building the bridge is Sargent where I used to hang out all the time.

Pierce Field on Matagorda Peninsula, is where you turned inland. I have landed there many times as I am a property owner there. I would also land next to the South Jetties on a shell road until some one built a cabin on the Bay Side. People land on the ramp, or there is also a runway 13/31 not marked

When I used to live in Corpus Christi we liked to fly up to Pierce field which used to be an old military training base. and just down the island further to towards Port Aransas there was another abandoned Military training base. Can't think now of the name. We used to land there after a storm and go beach combing near there. You could find the best shells and in tact huge Sand Dollars. Years ago there was a Cessna that ran out of fuel and didn't quite make the airport for an emergency landing. You could see the top of the wing just below the surface about 50 yards from shore. I don't think that is there anymore as that was 45 years ago. Either someone fished it out or else it just went to pieces in the salt water. If you want great breach combing where no people have already picked over the goodies, that is the place to go.

Used to live about 4 miles from Lake Jackson airport. Flew the Dow shuttle out of there a few times. Great place!!!

I've done almost that exact profile to fly over that area! We went IFR into LBX, it was clear there so we took back off VFR and went to the coast to fly low. I can't tell you how cool that is to almost see some of my visual memories shot for shot in a well made video.

Amazing scenery. I'd love to do that, but part 91 in New Zealand does not allow for the condition over water or remote areas. It's just 500ft AGL unless take-off, landing or there is some bona fide reason.

I randomly clicked on this video, but a month ago I literally had lunch at TGC, flew out of Lake Jackson and then up to Brenham then down along the coast. Wow I was surprised to see all of that in this video.

So if you are not going to land you can not be closer to the people you have to be 500 feet from then but if you are going to land it doesn’t matter or I didn’t really get that part of it?

A few years ago I was on the beach north of chicago.A young man buzzed the crowded beach He was low enough to see his smiling face.Unfortunately for him a coastguard helicopter was in hot pursuit.
