Steve dont you dare bloody leave you-tube. If you do I'll have no choice but to drive up from Albury and give you a swift kick up the arse😁 Seriously though, while your viewership numbers may have you feeling a bit dejected, just remember 'Each dawn is a new beginning'. Keep on keeping on Steve, dont chuck in the towel.

hahaha...and if you *DO* ; I'll have a coffee waiting, as I have for * every other person I've met* via my channel! - ALL will honestly be able to vouch for _what you see IS what you get_ with me (although I tend to swear a lot more in conversation, _in person_ , than I do on my videos ( _end of year outtakes excluded_ ). THANKS mate! - This sort of positive encouragement *DOES* inspire me to keep going, even if in a less routine way (such as yesterday avos late 'almost live' video from my phone of the new babies magpie to join the band of merry men (& women)) 😉😂🙂👌👍

I hate this, but I can't fault you. After coming back from the youtube issues we had, youtube gave us a hard time getting back to any kind of viewership like they had before. I feel there is some kind of harder time put on people who have that issue. You were the person who helped me get my channel back up and running, so i have been watching a lot of your stuff as it pops up. I think you have a lot of abilities to do different things, and it's hard to find what you want to do. I really believe you can break out of the rut, but I understand why you think the way you do about it. It's hard to not get discouraged when youtube simply won't send your stuff out. I'm genuinly pulling for you man, and I hope the new year brings you new luck with your endeavors. Try to not throw in the towel if you can.

Cheers mate - MUCH appreciated! Yes; I feel that way too mostly, re being limited by past interventions of KZfaq...That's ANOTHER good point; my video HAS helped a lot of people get re-monetised, YET; it's had barely 1000 views! Doesn't seem nor feel 'fair' to me either! We'll see what happens THIS year. *Happy new year mate!*👍

I guess a good break from making them may be a good idea 🤷‍♂️. It’s a downer for us but we’d completely understand. In terms of wasting time and dollars, I do that on the game of golf ⛳️ 😅. No truly I do!!!!! Memberships are astronomical, fees and equipment over the year are costs I do not want to even uncover along with adding up the countless hours of practice for seemingly very very little reward. I guess I do it because I really just love it and it gives me so much enjoyment. If I had the charisma, confidence and nous you have to make videos and vlogs I’d do it but I have none of those qualities 😔.

Thanks mate. We'll see what unfolds...I used to play golf a LONG time ago - Ended up quite good at it after a while - very good for relaxing if I recall? Yeah, I mainly DO just end up making videos for you guys and gals, which are a very small handful of my audience, but having SO FEW views on average, IS, I'm sure you'd all understand; very disheartening, especially on complex videos that can take literally WEEKS to make...

I so get this. I am a tiny channel. I tried getting two different new cameras hoping to make better content. Sent both back. Honestly I just do not have the drive do to this any more. At least your content is interesting and very few doing /showing what you do. I was totally doing this for fun and not monetized and never will or want to be. I think I would rather spend my time just creating my art. You will be missed.

Steve, if it weren’t for your digital recorder review video that you made a few years ago, I never would have caught my ex wife cheating on me. I’m forever grateful for that one. Thanks you. You’re right about the new year, it doesn’t seem to be getting any better. And yes, unfortunately my channel can’t just keep to one topic either, but I’m not throwing in the towel just yet. Hope you have a healthy and safe 2024. Till we meet again sir. 🙂👍✌️

OH! Well, I'm very sorry that was the reason and outcome of it, but it seems now that you're 'glad' to have closure? Yes; it IS hard to stay on just ONE topic (and boring!) - I have a few things planned, that I've meant to make videos on (some for years now!), so will very likley do that - meantime, _AS I DO_ : I have a short and longer video that have mentally more or less 'been forced on me', by my own circumstances, that I'll do a video on, as one of them I CANNOT find anything precisely nor comprehensively enough ON, so there IS a need as I see it. 👌👍🙂

You're very welcome mate! And thanks; it's comments like this, that remind, and keep me on the platform! I quite likely will succumb to my built-in drive to upload content onto youtube, but probably a little LESS OFTEN, and as I've had more time to contemplate the (rather sad) nature of todays often very short attention spans, of 5 seconds or so - will very likely change a few ways that I edit videos in the future. MUCH appreciate your feedback; it inspires me to keep going...Cheers👌👍🙂

Thank YOU! ❤ Well, if I know you Steve, you won't be gone for very long. As you have said in the comments and to me personally many times, you never give up much less quit. As long as I last, I'll have a dose of SMack regularly if by no other means then by the archives at least. I'm sure there are some yet to be seen tidbits or revisits I could enjoy. If you don't mind, I'll offer kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qs1gdbGFysjHko0.html a song that gives me inspiration from a top 10 hit in 1974 written and performed by a songwriter and band leader that shares my birthplace hometown.

I am all too familiar with that feeling and what you were going through when you filmed this. You seem to have an awareness of the difference between doing what you want the way you want to, and doing it in a way that will grow the channel or get a lot of views (not that the view count is even something that any of us could say is predictable). I guess in the end, it comes down to deciding on what you want out of it. Do you enjoy the process of making videos on whatever you feel is significant, or do you want to focus on doing what will help more people engage with the content, raise the views and the Adsense revenue? Or something else? Whatever it is, I think finding where you get the most satisfaction, and accepting that that may negatively affect other areas is beneficial. I personally have just let go of the idea of doing what people want to see, and am just doing the videos that I enjoy making or think are worth doing. The possum video is the worst performing video I've made, maybe ever, but now that I am no longer focused on the view counts/click through rates etc, I feel happy to have made the video and put it out into the world. Sure I hope that some day the channel grows to a point where it's not costing more (in terms of time lost to planning/filming/editing etc) than it makes, but I've made my peace with the possibility of that not happening. I've decided to do it for the enjoyment and satisfaction it brings - through improving my skills, experiencing new things, meeting new people etc - and the other things are a bonus if they do happen. But it's been so great for me mentally to let those other things go. If the view counts are an important part of what makes you feel good about doing this KZfaq thing, that may mean losing the freedom of having such an eclectic range of subject matter if you want to increase those views, especially from subscribers. I suspect the latter is more something you enjoy out of the two. My crisis point like this one of yours, when I was working out whether to walk away from KZfaq or not, was in December. By January, partly thanks to the support from my subscribers and their feedback and input, I had a new lease on KZfaq. I have been excited again to make videos since then. Now I'm making them for me. If people connect, then I'll know I'm building a base of people who enjoy things that align with what I myself like, but as my interests are also eclectic, I know they won't want to watch every video I put out. And I'm OK with that now. No matter what, though, to have 16,700+ people value what you have to give enough to want to connect and follow along is no small thing. I often used to look at other channels that are larger than mine, and that get far more views than mine, and feel despondent. But no longer. FIrstly, I remember how excited I was when I got my first 1000 subscribers, then 5000, then 10000. Sure my 13.7K is FAR lower than so many other channels, but if I only compare myself with my former self, I can see I've come a long way. And sometimes I'm happy to lose subscribers, as it means I'm refining my following to a group of people who connect more with what I connect with. I'm kinda rambling a lot, which is something I do, but I just hope that you can find what the most satisfying parts of doing KZfaq videos are for you, and let the other things fall by the wayside. I am enjoying doing this thing a lot more this year than I was last year. I feel freedom from letting go of expectations with view counts, channel growth etc, as they are far less important to me than producing higher and higher quality videos, and on subjects I consider more significant. I'm enjoying a new peace around this crazy addiction, and hope that you can find a similar peace, and a renewed energy to create from this year on. All the best!

Thanks SO MUCH for your comprehensive input mate - It's really appreciated! Yes, as I tried to summarise in this video (also made at the end of the year...Perhaps that's a 'gloomy' part of a small channels calendar?); AND as I've said for years - Make videos that YOU want to make - however, as emphasised in this video; after all the many MANY hours of work we put into them (most of them anyway); it IS nice when more than a virtual handful of people actually WATCH them - numbers are one thing, and nice to have vs the stepping stones we all experienced along the way, but VIEWS of our videos are much MUCH more important! Like yourself; I've echoed this many times in the past 18 years - and as YOU know; if the sole aim of a youtuber is to only have huge numbers of subscribers, then 'stick to just ONE genre', but us being 'generic' or as you better put it 'eclectic'; we don't mesh too well usually with the crazy A.I. Algorythm, that constantly changes - and aside from using the meta data stuff as I used to promote in my small youtuber advice playlist; No one really (I suspect not even most employees of Google / Alphabet) KNOWS HOW that even WORKS these days! - Case in point, my lowest ever point (aside from being cyber bullied some years back; the result of which ALMOST saw my channel taken down!), was mid last year, when for NO apparent reason - I was demonetised for 're-used content', which if you've ever encountered (if not, I HOPE you never DO!!) - Does not SAY WHICH videos etc are to blame! 99.9% of my content, were ALL filmed and edited by me; so clearly, the A.I. is 'broken'...I made an extensive video on HOW I finally managed to beat the A.I. and get re-monetised, but sadly, even THAT video has had nowhere near as many views as it rightly SHOULD have, especially given how much BAD advice on that topic is out there! Anyway, that was my lowest point, BUT; I decided to press on, work hard, and regain that small token of financial recognition (pocket money to be honest, as you know, for most of us) - Yet afterwards, the channel has never really recovered to the point it was finally reaching, just before that happened. I'll still make some videos that, like I always have, HELP people, with tips and ideas I either find myself or try out, but no doubt I'll continue to prioritise in making content the way I do, as the small but very loyal group of regular followers; some of which have become real life friends - appreciate. You're right, and occasionally, I stop and think; even at this small (for youtube) number of subscribers: IMAGINE a stadium, with (currently) around 17,000 people, all watching what you make!? (NOT that most DO unfortunately!) - That's no small achievement! PS: None of MY possum videos ever did very well either - but it's early days for yours, and youtube DOES (or at least used to!) do another round of suggesting content, sometimes months or even years later...Once it's 'out there', it STILL can theoretically be found. Cheers mate, talk again soon. Steve

@@craig5152 THANKS mate!! It's always encouraging to me to get such positive comments and feedback! I very much appreciate the 'LIKE's; I've always done the same thing for every video I watch, even on the huge channels...It only takes a second, but I don't think many people bother to do it, but it DOES all help, especially on a still small channel like mine - now in it's 18th YEAR! EVERY little bit helps me out, so hopefully the A.I. that runs youtube will think (if it COULD think!) "hey, people seem to like this video - I might suggest it to others". Cheers, Steve 👍
