Regarding the little library, bravo! Especially during the pandemic, I was so grateful for all the little libraries in my neighborhood and on the way to work, I can't even find enough words. Apparently the appreciation goes both ways, because one time when I was dropping off a few mystery novels on my way to work, the owner of the house appeared in her doorway, still wearing her towel from getting out of the shower (!!), just to say "thank you." I don't know who it was who first thought of these things, but I like to think of it as a Great Moment in History. 🤩💯

I'm not skilled enough to read and knit, but I listen to Audible a lot. Right now, I'm designing a capelet/hoodie and listening to the Skyward series by Brandon Sanderson. It's kinda like Harry Potter in space with psychic powers/multiple dimensions instead of magic.😁

Your book seat might be just the answer to my desire to “do all the things.” I have so many things I want to do that I feel frustrated just doing one “thing” at a time. Seasons of creativity. I have about 20. Can I fit them all in one year? 😂

I started following this channel when I decided I needed to be a knitter again. {I had put it aside because of aged parent drama) I loved this episode of you talking mostly about books! Please start that podcast with Husband. I would watch the hell out of it. And I love your little free library. So cute! Funny thing about top-down-raglans; I was over them before I ever even knitted one. lol I've only ever knit top-down round necks and a couple of pieced cardis. I refuse to ever knit a pattern that has to be seamed again.

Love your podcasts! I’ve been a voracious reader for as long as I can remember. However I’m not so talented in being able to “yarn” (knit/crochet) and read so I’m a big fan of audible, which IMO counts as reading 😃 so I can listen to a book while continuing to do whatever fiber craft I’m doing. But I also always have a physical book to read at night in bed. I liked The Maid as well. The Lost Apothecary was an interesting read too, totally different from that one but seems like it would be in the same vein of some of your recent reads. Loving the reading topics, keep ‘em coming!

I agree that Lost Apothecary was great also. I always have 2-4 books going at a time. I just finished an audiobook from the library, am reading The Demon of Unrest in new hardback from the library, a political book on kindle, and a new audiobook ready to start from my library. I could not survive without reading!😂.

So this may come off cheesy, but I swear I got chills when I read that you read Jamaica Inn while staying at the real Jamaica Inn. How incredible! Ok, I need to read it. My husband said he wants to read Rebecca and I told him that I would love to read another du Muarier while he reads that. It has to be Jamaica Inn and then that way I can watch both the movies (Rebecca) and the series (Jamaica Inn). And then I clearly need to add Frenchman's Creek to my TBR list ASAP. ❤️

Great job on the Little Library! Love seeing those pop up in neighborhoods. I know you live in the West and so do I so I recommend anything by Mark Spragg or Kent Haruf. Just finished Fruit of Stone by Mark Spragg and I still have the warm glowing feeling. My local libraries all do several big book sales every year. I usually spend around $20 and come home with over 70 books, if not more. I am out of space so I had to hold back a bit this past Spring Sale. After reading I return them to the Friends of the Library to sell again. Highly recommend it if your library does it. Knitting like crazy on Emotional Support Chickens, thanks to you! So fun and a great way to use up all the bits.

You ask "what have you been reading?", well, I have been reading Stephen King, last one I read was"Salems Lot". Really early King book, and really cool. Knitting on shawls, Stephen West, and Curious handmade mkal, and jumped on the purl soho bandwagon, needed a quiet garter thingy, Half and half wrap. So looks like a busy summer for me. Thanks for your videos!!

I love all of this Julia! Super cozy. And I'm telling you, sometimes you just need a cozy garter project and Purl Soho is the best for those sorts of projects. So I've only ever read two S. King books: Fairy Tale (which was AMAZING) and On Writing (so good...even for those not necessarily interested in writing). My husband is on a SK kick right now and just finished Mr. Mercedes and before that he read Billy Summer. He's fallen pretty hard down that rabbit hole so I expect to see lots more SK on rotation. Enjoy your knits and your reading! ❤️

Hi Taylor! If you enjoy science fiction, I cannot recommend enough the author Andy Weir. He's a software engineer turned writer and his books, Artemis, The Martian, and Project Hail Mary are my all time favorites. Any Weir has a deep understanding of Physics, Math, Biology, Technology, and it shows. In his books, everything makes sense, the math checks out. I can't help but think "this could actually happen". The only fictional part of his books are the scenarios and characters. I'm in awe at his writing skills and scientific knowledge. Please check him out, especially if you're a massive nerd such as myself.

Congrats on the little library! That is so exciting. I love how it's in a planter with some flowers and lights. Very fancy. I did just want to mention one thing. I couldn't exactly tell from the video you shared, but since the library is in a planter on the sidewalk and not buried in your yard, it is important to make sure that you leave enough space on the sidewalk for people with wheelchairs and power chairs to get around. The ADA requires sidewalks to be 36 inches wide to be considered wheelchair accessible. 😊

I'm always thrilled to see someone get back into reading. I've been an avid reader all my life, and I think it's because my parents were always readers, and the books they were reading were always lying around the house, we had full bookshelves, and it was just normal to me to read. I was thrilled when I finally graduated from the children's section of the public library, and my first real (non-babysitting) job was in a library. I just finished rereading the Silo series by Hugh Howey: Wool, Shift, and Dust. Very intense, thriller type science fiction/speculative series. I also just finished reading the first in a new fantasy series, The Broken Queen by Lidiya Foxglove. Your mention of it prompted me to put Rebecca on hold at the library. I read Jamaica Inn a few years ago, and the short story collection that includes The Birds just last year. I think I might have read Rebecca when I was very young, but I can't remember forsure and I've been meaning to read it, either again or for the first time. Thanks for the reminder. Congratulations on your tiny free libarary!

Was given a Book Seat for my birthday! (might have dropped a hint based on your suggestion :) ) Books - have you read the No 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series?

My mouth fell open when I saw the yarn you were using. I bought 6 skeins of this yarn in the same color last week with a Joann's gift card! I wanted to make a summer top and was having a hard time coming up with a pattern. I'll be using this pattern and plan on starting this week. I hate knitting in parts and sewing the pieces together so this pattern is just what I was looking for. I am excited to get started. I'm reading One Door Away From Heaven by Dean Koontz and enjoying it very much. I do most of my reading on my tablet with the kindle app.

I find that I can read and watch tennis (I even averaged out the number of stockinet stiches I could knit while Djokovic bounced the ball between serves one year), baseball, football, or basketball. I had not even considered actually trying to read with my eyes instead of my ears and knit.

Hello from getting colder Victoria Australia! I’m currently knitting a cardigan for my mother, as well as using up some yarn to crochet a blanket for no one in particular. I read many genres, and my current books are a Tom Clancy’s Code of Conduct (26th in the Jack Ryan series), as well as Richard Osman’s The Thursday Murder Club, and about to start The Last Bookshop in London by Madeline Martin. I have seen that someone else suggested it, but you have to read The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. It is such an unbelievably great book and so different from anything else I’ve read - I really think you’d enjoy it 😊. Love your channel and catching up with you with a cup of tea and whatever current project I’m working on 😄

Hello! How lovely that your moving into cooler temps. I like summer, but I LOVE those liminal weeks when summer begins to recede and the cooler days of autumn come. I'm slightly jealous. 😊 So my husband just picked up Thursday Murder Club and he's getting into it now. I definitely want to read it! And yes! Night Circus is coming soon. I have it sitting on my shelf now and can't wait to read it. I'm thinking it will be my airplane read on our trip to Michigan in a couple weeks. Can't wait! Thank you for the additional encouragement to read it. I keep hearing/reading great things! ❤️

Wonderful episode - love the library, we have heaps of those in our neighbourhood and they are so endearing. As for books have a look at 'The Bee Sting' by Paul Murray...pretty intense based in Ireland and focusing on some very complicated relationships....

Rebecca is one of my favorite books! The first book of Daphne’s I read was Jamaica Inn - also fabulous! Her descriptions of the sea, in particular, are hypnotic. My Cousin Rachel is a great Gothic manor mystery worthy of checking out too.

"Shardlake" on Hulu was so good! I was excited to see there is a series of books! I am knitting an angry cat stuffed animal (the first stuffed animal I've ever knit) and am reading "The Wandering Hill" by Larry McMurtry. It is the second in a series and I'm enjoying this book. Thanks for the video!

I just finished The Familiar. Loved it, so thanks for the recommendation. I'm waiting for What Angels Fear from the library. I'm listening to the forth book by Renee Ahdien. It starts with The Beautiful. It's about fae, vampire, and werewolves in old New Orleans. I have really enjoyed all four books. I'm reading the second Sydney Rye mystery series, Death in the Dark. So far I'm loving these.

I am still on the KTKAL, and I *need* to focus, bc. my sons birthday/high school graduation is in a month and it needs to be done (I originally thought I'd be done by May 1st...), but summer is pretty much here now and I feel like making smaller things and I am completely in to tiny (not micro - yet) crochet, and making granny squares in mercirised cotton in these amazing bright colors.. It needs to stop and I need to get on with the sweater - but once it is done, I will do small things until september or until I am in Denmark and temperaturs are lower - because Spainis summer is just too hot to sit with a whole sweater in your lap. Reading: I am trying to learn to read while knitting, and currently reading Liza Marklund, swedish crime novelist: The title translates to Countdown, I don't know if I like it yet - but usually I like her stuff. Daphne du Maurier - I *loved* her when I had my Hitchcoc craze in my teens. (btw. something has gone wrong with my paypal, so my subscription to patreon isn't working - I didn't leave).
